  9. Can't believe Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is 20 years old this year. it's what got me into modding games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDwYlzEMdl8

  10. Been watching the prequels lately, and I still can't belive how much Ewan resembles Alec. Ewan is still in rather good shape and health, Disney should seriously consider a standalone film of Obi-Wan.

  11. New animation rig waiting approval, if you're still making animations with Dragon then you probably only just discovered fire.

One huge thing I forgot, Dragon CANNOT create anything, only make animations for an existing skeleton. I can create whatever I want. Oh and yes, there is a tutorial by me how to get an animation into the game. It's a tiny bit out dated only because the rig has gone through a lot of changes but any Softimage tutorial can teach you the basics of animation.

Oh yeah, blender can save GLA but I don't think anyone has taken the time to make a biped for JA in that, most people using it just kitbash models so their knowledge of the program is probably very limited. Softimage EXPORTS dotXSI but does not save it directly, it's not a scene file, the scene files are .EXP. It of course supports a handful of other formats for source engine, cry engine, unreal engine and other formats for file exchange between other softwares.

So you want an elbow to bend backwards? This is what I meant. You can exaggerate movements but to bend a bone backwards is just wrong. I'll put it to you simply, Softimage (free version) can do everything Dragon can plus hundreds of thousands more things but there is nothing aside from saving directly to GLA format that Dragon can do. If you're using Dragon you have no idea how much better animations you could be making in a fraction of the time.

The thing I also like a lot about Softimage is it doesn't use it's own scripting language so if you already know basic scripting you can jump right in and make some interesting things. The synoptic view was made with a combo of HTML and VBScript, a lot of the expression links like for the foot roll, spine and roll division is all scripting.

I couldn't do blender, UI is too bad and animation tools aren't that great.Maya seems to be getting a lot of stuff ported to it from Softimage so as far as the programs that are still being actively developed Maya would be the best all around. 3DS Max has always been a easy to learn polygon modeler though which is probably it's strongest point.

With Dragon you have to move each bone one by one, Dragon in comparison to a real animation software is like MS Paint is to Photoshop. I'm also using a free software so there is that advantage.

In Dragon you're using forward kinematics, you have very little control and bones are allowed to be over extended past their natural ability. There are also no tools to store poses for later use, no tools for blending animations, all you can do is just set a key. Even interpolation is done manually in Dragon and I'm sure it's only linear interpolation. A mere pose that would take a experienced Dragon user 10-20 minutes would take me 1-5. Walk cycles generally only take 30 minutes...

  20. Question: What are your guys views on brutal honesty and translating it into legitimately critiquing others' work. I.E. Models or kitbashes?

What's even crazier is that we never ever needed Dragon, Mod Tool has been around since version 4.2, it was just called XSI EXP.
