Question about uploading custom skins
therfiles replied to Zamzar's topic in General Modding Discussions
@@Kualan hit the nail on the head here. Make sure you respect the original modder's wishes and attempt communication. Be sure to wait at least a week to hear back from the original author (if a non-JKHub model) before trying to submit it here. -
Looks like lots of fun! The firefights look really engaging and vibrant. I'd love to hear more about AI since I can rarely get Multiplayer (with real people) to work!

Good question, @@Kualan! I personally have been rather inactive lately, but now that I'm trying to recommit and come back, it really requires a few things. To be reading topics, and involved in discussions. While I don't read EVERY thread, I try to keep track of most of them, just in case anything gets out of hand or anybody needs help. Ex: Moving the topic, etc. So if you are already reading threads, you are really doing quite a bit of the job already!Additionally, we approve files. It's a bit of a process, but it shouldn't really take longer than 2 to 5 minutes at the very most per file, with no complications of course. It's pretty quick and nice system. Be aware, you may need to contact people and talk to them about their submissions.Responding to PMs...people will often send questions your way, so be willing to answer those.Of course there are lots of odds and ends that will take a bit of time, but those are the most regular activities...and really, if you love the community and want to help, it's not a HUGE time-consumer. As far as a time estimate goes...I'm not too sure. As a moderator, you are really just a user with more responsibilities. It's hard to delineate when I'm moderating and when I'm just enjoying the community.

Haha I meant as his first time as the "executive" admin/leader/main head honcho guy... Yeah I don't make sense.
-
Yup yup sounds good! I'll try! And oh yeah, we'd have to wait until next year, but I think that would really be an interesting project for the community and just SW fans in general!
-
Super duper random idea today...we could focus on making a small, but HQ mission from the Force Awakens. That would be an easy way to ride the hype of that movie! Just a thought.

Thanks again @@Circa and @@SiLink for all that you did. Circa, you really did keep the lights on here at JKHub and your leadership was so invaluable to all of us here. Thanks for dealing with all of our craziness! SiLink, thanks for those amazing articles, and all the other goodness you did here! You guys are the best! @@eezstreet I'm so excited that you are in this position! I know you'll do excellent. You've definitely done a heck of a lot for this community and this is gonna be sweet.

I think people need to realize that the staff, editors, and everyone else is just a volunteer. There is a place for criticism, improvement, and discussion, but that can be done privately and without blowing things out of proportion. Sheesh. Especially since this was just passing on information from a source that is less well known (Moddb). Putting it on our radar and directing us to a place where we can learn more means we can share news like this quickly and efficiently.

Revival of JKA's modding community
therfiles replied to Xycaleth's topic in General Modding Discussions
One thing I remember when I was younger and just starting out was how SP mods really attracted my attention. I remember mods like Movie Duels II, which to this day remains one of the most popular JKA mods on Moddb. Mods like that offered a completely new gaming experience for the old game, and also attracted new players because the premise was simply incredible, and not met in any other game. This is why I think KOTF was so popular, and why so many were willing to look past it's obvious flaws. In my opinion SP is best used when it is creating a gaming experience that is not only completely new and fun, but also unique only to JKA. I got burned out on several projects because there was already other ways to play what I was making. I tried to make an SP Harry Potter game, but there were already incredible Harry Potter video games out there. I tried making a KOTOR SP mod, but...KOTOR is already such a great game. With SP, you can tell stories, make missions, and make something memorable. Not that you can't do that in MP, but that's really what SP was made for. Mods like Movie Duels II, Movie Battles 2, and many others offered new glimpses into a tried game and gave perspective on just what could be accomplished. They excited me as a player, and made me want to explore modding. And maybe the time of large Total Conversions is over. Maybe it is. But my gosh did they attract new people. That's why I have so much respect for those who embarked on such huge projects, even if they didn't finish them. So what is the solution? Keep creating awesome content. Work together on larger, more impressive projects, and create a community people want to join. Wow that sounded way to hippyish. My bad. I personally don't have too much against the tools we already have. They have their limitations, but once you get them figured out (easier said than done, I know) it's all about the community of people who work together to create something great. -
jedi knight filefront modding site help ?
therfiles replied to RASAS's topic in General Modding Discussions
Check out this thread. I believe some people have made some backups of the files that you might be looking for. -
Very cool! I wouldn't be surprised, however, if this was just a concept. It looks like it was taken to be a proof of concept (just look at all those cameras!) and not actually on set. But it really looks good!

Awesome article! Always have loved the SkyLine menu project! It's beautiful and excellently executed.
-
Impressive work! Thanks for sharing the trailer with us!
-
Heck yah! Bots have been confirmed! (For the missions at least...I'm assuming there is some sort of Instant Action feature)
-
Looks pretty awesome! I'm watching the live stream now...I'm hoping we get some gameplay today!
-
You never cease to amaze us, DT!
-
Curiously, I think there is a limit to the amount of items contained within a .menu. I forget the exact number...maybe 300? I remember working on NpcSP and the game just refused to read anything past a certain point.

For the camera on the arm, Check out CamSP! I believe you need to have cg_cameradamp (or somthing like that) enabled, and you can use horz offset. I forget the particulars. Hmm...without editing the code, your options are limited. You could use OpenJK and then add some elements to the HUD, that are shown with cvars? Then make that cvar change via script? Not sure how feasible that is without coding new cvars...so coding is still the best option.

It's up! Sorry for the delay, guys.
