I know it is very difficult legally (with the whole "didn't really get permission to re-upload thing") but I think it would be worth JKHub sponsoring it officially (a news post, on the bar, etc).

Moviebattles 2 site back online
therfiles replied to eezstreet's topic in Jedi Knight General Discussions
So glad they managed to bring it back up. Sounds like some crazy stuff went down. But I know the MB2 community is fairly resilient, and I know they'll do the best they can with what they have! -
While I've never done anything quite like this before, it's definitely possible! If you find a bunch of movements (try: Alora's special attacks, the Katas, some lightsaber hits, etc) I can try and put them in a loop via script.

@@Syko: please do not post an illegal link to the game's assets.

This is crazy. Hope this conflict gets resolved quickly!

Hi! So glad you made it here! You are quite the legend! I remember your awesome review of one of my (pretty crappy) first files and I remember how that kind of praise balanced with constructive criticism really helped me going with modding! Thanks for all you have done!

Dude this game is amazing. I'd love to see this made!

Sounds like a cool place to start. And that reminds me. We really do need a cool name for the Saga Mod Project... Could just be by the mission (example - Jedi Knight: Tantive Escape) or (A New Hope: Tantive Escape)
-
Yeah...the main tricky part would be figuring out how to weave that idea in with an actual story-line. I think a good start would be coming up with a much more compelling villain, with an epic plot, and maybe like 2 just as interesting henchman (ex: Desann, Galak, and Tavion). Or...It would be some what interesting if we used outside forces like the Yuuzhan Vong to motivate the plot. It would make sense if Jaden had some connection to the main villain as well.
-
Interesting idea! There could be Jedi Masters you can talk to (an train with) to level up your abilities as well, rather than just arbitrarily leveling up per mission.
-
Oh sorry, @mrwonko, I was just wondering if that could be a solution, not that you needed to do it But Yeah @Śăļvõö I think that ent modding thing is your best bet.
-
@@mrwonko could you do some entity modding to add that entity in?
-
Unfortunately, to my knowledge, it's not possible. SP uses a few different entities than MP does to control spawn points. MBII (I think) even has their own unique ones. Not 100% sure, but I think if you get that error, you might be out of luck.

Incredible thoughts, guys! So how can we spice up the relationships between these characters? It seemed like Kyle's motivation in JKO was two-fold: to stop Desann from abusing the Valley of the Jedi...and just being evil and killing all the Jedi, and also rescuing his love: Jan. (Sorry if that's off...It's been a while since I've played good ol' Outcast). What can we do to give JKA a similar dimension? Perhaps make Tavion more vengeful towards Kyle after slaughtering her master? That might help characterize Kyle a bit better. Also...who the crap is Alora? There's a lot we can do with that character...because there really isn't much there. Rosh certainly needs to be re-skinned and re-voiced. Perhaps Rosh could be a Sith agent all along? The mission style of JKA is really what makes it unique. I think the idea behind it is clever. It's not trying to be JKO. It's trying to be a Jedi training-mission game. It kinda works. But we never see Jaden fail, or grow, or learn from these missions. There's not really any "moral" or take-away from a mission, and if there is, it's just a bit of forced exposition from Kyle and Luke.

Hey guys! I wanted some feedback from y'all (Southern college...) on the Base JKA campaign. Which elements of the story would you like to see changed? Nothing is off the table. Feel free to discuss the overall plot, specific characters and missions, or the player's objectives. Anything that takes away from the experience of the SP campaign. Also, if you've got an idea for a change, please post it!

Sure! Go for it!

Just to give an example of how I would see a typical mission shaking down, here's an example: (Tantieve) Glad you guys are interested in the idea! And there's no reason we couldn't do a bit to the MP side as well. KOTF had some great ideas...we can execute them better. For instance, with the SP source code, we can add new features that weren't ever possible before! But don't feel pressured to accept this idea...lots of discussion and planning are required to get a mod like this off the ground and we got to be sure we know what we want to do.

Fans are quite outraged as EA just announced that there will be no server browser. Just skill-based match-ups. Hopefully they change this, because it seems quite broken for the PC gamers, and people are leaving the game now in droves over this issue...

Revival of JKA's modding community
therfiles replied to Xycaleth's topic in General Modding Discussions
Yeah...not too sure either, @@hleV. The only thing MBII does really well is the blocking mechanics. Everything else just seems to be spamming and just down-right confusing to new users. BP doesn't quite work outside of MBII. -
Yeah...I don't think we need KOTF. I've already built a lot of the features, and the can be easily adaptable if we wanted to include the saga time line. And yeah...KOTF would tarnish the overall intention of the mod. It will be quite the challenge finding and securing the permissions for all the maps and models needed. A few of us have been tinkering around with this idea for a while...Episode IV definitely is a nice place to start! I've had ideas like implementing the Party System on some missions, so you can swap between Chewie, Luke, Han, and Leia on the Death Star mission. We'd extrapolate some of the events from the movies of course, and we'd need some cutscenes. But dang. This would be sweet. This would basically be the mission list: -Tantieve Boarding -Droid Wandering (?) -Tusken Ambush -Mos Eisely Escape -Death Star Rescue -Trench Run Poking @@Circa because I know he loves this stuff EDIT: Sorry didn't see your post on KOTF. Agreed. They had some good thoughts behind it. I've always been in favor of a "Free-Play" and "Story" modes that let the player just play around and then actually work through the mission if desired.

Thanks for starting this conversation, @! I've got two ideas. One: we really make JKE (Jedi Knight Enhanced) work. While we have the almighty @@redsaurus working hard to make some incredible features, we had discussed making sweeping changes to the game. Do we want to re-write the story? Members (I think it was @@MagSul) suggested things like redoing Rosh's part (making him female?) and maybe redoing Alora as well. Also, we wanted to make the missions more engaging and exciting (like JKO) and not "go to this room, kill this, jump here, etc". Making new missions, new story-lines, and maps were some of our grand plans for the game. How sweet would that be? I would love to essentially redo the Base SP campaign because, let's face it, it just isn't that strong. Two: There is one mod type that has been around for literally the last decade. This mod type excites the outside community the most and makes the inner community tremble with joy. I'm talking about Star Wars saga mods. Now we all know the infamous mod KOTF. The reason this was SO DANG POPULAR is that people love the Star Wars movies and the JK engine is an excellent way to play through them. Just look at the tremendous success of Movie Duels II (and even Movie Battles II for that matter...). People love the saga, and while MD2 did a great job with Prequels, no one has really created a great SP campaign, with new maps and models, for the original movies we all love. These projects have died too many times. It's time to make it happen. This could get us the attention that we need from the outside gaming community. And even if none of these ideas are chosen, I'll be on board with what ever we choose to do? Why? Because I'm frankly quite tired of letting great projects die. I've been involved with tons of mods (Jedi Knight Betrayal, Harry Potter SP, a KOTOR mod, and numerous personal projects that never saw the light of day) and none of them have been released. Part of that is that we don't share these projects with the community. So when the team gets burned out, no one continues the work. But this project needs to be ran and created by the community. That's how we'll get stuff done. Both of my ideas are SP. We've got some excellent mods out there for MP. I don't think creating another faction of the JKA gamers would help that much. I think JA ++ and Movie Battles and others have that market cornered, and it's going great.
