New HUD for JKA (based on TFU-2) *Help*
therfiles replied to dark_apprentice's topic in Modding Assistance
At this point, there is nothing wrong with the .ui, and it looks fine. I'd check to make sure that your files have the right dementions/shaders, etc. Were there any errors in the console? That would really help us figure out what specifically is going wrong, here. -
Hey there! A mod TC would be incredibly cool! However, they take MASSIVE amounts of work and I just don't see even a large team completing a mod of that scope in any reasonable time frame. We were able to get the ball rolling with Jedi Betrayal, but that stalled ultimatly. Mission recreation is a lot of work! I've tried it several times, and have several unfinished gems in my gamedata folder. I don't know how Wector completed Movie Duels II, on of my favorite mods. Yeah, we tried that with the Gold Pack. There was even a mapping collaboration a long time back and, well...that didn't work out. It's just hard to imagine the entire community getting behind a project, no matter how awesome the concept is. But I'd disagree with you about this not feeling like a community. We're a group of people who work together to help eachother, talk about stuff, and team up with whoever we choose to make mods. Plus, the combination of your favorite player models, mods, code fixes and addition really allows you to make JKA into whatever you want it to be!

I agree with you @@Cerez, about the artist's vision, but in this instance, I really doubt that Lucas 'desecrated' his work intentionally. He thought Star Wars was for kids, and that many of the themes he wanted to get across had already been successfully delivered with the OT. He just wanted to fill in this immense story that he desperately wanted to tell. So it's natural that the fans were outraged by the prequels, as the fan base had grown up significantly, naturally they thought the material would grow with them. While a good artist respects and builds on the thoughts and opinions of his audience, I believe it his/her mission to challenge and evolve that vision further. That may not come across successfully, and it probably didn't in this instance, but an artist should hardly be locked into what his audience had begun to expect from him/her. Plus, Lucas didn't write TCW or make the decision to remove the EU. Let's not bash him too hard. This a good discussion, IMO. Excellent points.

That's not entirely fair, @@Cerez. The fleshing out of those elements was done primarily by the book authors (initially) then by the prequels, which the fans genuinly wanted. Everything about Star Wars was completely new and mysterious when it came out. Even the way the story was told, the lack of opening exposition, the exciting action was very new when the film first came out. The fans wanted more Star Wars and they definitly got it. Granted, midiclorians was certainly a step in the wrong direction. I really hope that same element of mysticism is presented in VII. That's why the removal of post EP 6 canon was so vital.

It's the unfortunately necessary painful consequence of Episode VII. Luke's my fav anyway, so I'll be alright.
-
You will try.

Haha! Very nice! It took me a while to figure out what it was in his hand, but now it makes perfect sense!

Excellent suggestions, @@eezstreet. I agree with most of the changes! I think the repeater's primary shouldn't be more powerful. In essence, I see it as fast, inaccurate weapon that allows the player to spray-and-pray. I think buffing the damage may make it a bit OP, but I think the ammo efficency needs to be fixed.

@@Onysfx: I agree! Just being able to mod it and do fun stuff was just awesome. @: While MBII is a mod, some can consider it a different game mode, as it has it's own competive community, game style, and large playerbase. I support that because it's just so radically differnet than baseJA, that it's almost it's own genre, in a way.

Failure to understand setup.
therfiles replied to Bacon's topic in jaMME [Jedi Academy Movie Maker's Edition]
@@Bacon: I think @@ent is asking to see if the JaMME's version is correct. -
@@Xycaleth: That makes sense. I was able to temporarily fix the problem by entering "ipconfig /flushdns", so that seems like a logical conculsion. What is the main thing that usually goes wrong with DNS?

Such pain. SP or MBII? Ack. I'll go with SP because that's what I did for the last 7 years lol.

Cool. Thanks guys. The wireless card power saving seems like a good lead, but I want to try some tests (ethernet, wired internet connection) to make sure it's the WiFi. She was open to backing up her files and resetting everything, which I thought was very extreme, but that could work. We'll keep that option open just in case. And yeah, I can dig out an old USB adapter real quick. Good ideas, everyone! EDIT: Oooh, oddly enough, I can still use ping google.com and recieve a good signal. What...

Hey all So I was trying to help a friend out today fix her low-end, touchscreen HP (Windows 8) laptop (I'm known as the neighborhood computer geek). She had a very weird problem. She was able to connect to a wireless network, but she wasn't able to receive internet access. I've fixed this many times. Usually all I have to do is restart, do some cmd prompt ipconfig stuff (/flushdns), or make sure there isn't any firewall problems. Everything I've tried didn't work. She's using Google Chrome (I only use Firefox, so that didn't help) and when I did /flushdns, her internet worked...at least for a minute or so. Then, it would stop working, and give a "not connected to the internet" error. I tried a couple other things (including a winstock restart...a forum told me to) and that worked...temporarily. I've never heard of a problem quite like this. Has any one encountered anything like this? It's very odd. I don't have the specs, but I could probably help. I've done some googling, but no solution seems to do the trick. She's recently been gone (laptop hasn't been used in a month). Could this be a hardware issue? Could her wireless card be dead? How about an IP problem? I'm just a bit out of my league at the moment. Any help would be incredibly awesome. Thanks!

First person view lightsaber aggrevations.

I guess you could make a script that makes the player invisible/visible. Not sure what you are looking for, though. It would just be a floating saber... -
[WIP] Jetstream Sam's Murasama HF Blade

Neat! That red blade is what I envisioned for the other sword...but it looks simply excellent here! Nice work! -
[WIP] Man at Arms - Reforged Lightsaber Katana

Woah! Nice work! Don't worry about it too much. If you didn't think it looked good, then it probably didn't. -
It's soo adorable, I want one.... [GotG Spoiler-y]

Very cute! That was a very nice end sequence to pop in there. Gotg was a really well done movie, IMO. -
[WIP] Man at Arms - Reforged Lightsaber Katana
therfiles replied to AshuraDX's topic in WIPs, Teasers & Releases
Woah...you are so fast! Really nice work! One thing I think the designers of the hilt should have done is color the actual blade. The hilt could keep that cool silver and black, but I think it would be really cool if the blade was like a deep red, but still had a metallic feel to it. I think that would be awesome! -
I tried to do this in SP. It could be possible with ICARUS scripting. Unfortunately, I can only get it to color the ENTIRE screen (rather than the edges, as many games do). So I may be able to implement a mod where your entire screen fades to black as you begin to die. I also made these damage screen things that flash when you are hurt in third person. I like those a lot better.

I loved Neo Dark Ages! Me and @ did some neat work on a huge Harry Potter project, and of course @@eezstreet has his amazing Gunslingers Academy.

Personally, the best solution would be to add some tags, I think. Otherwise, we could make the same argument for artwork, personal works, stories, and pretty much anything, really, and we just end up with a bunch of divisions that cloud the forum.

@@redsaurus: That is quite awesome, sir!
