    Geonosian

I guess, we'll need Geonosian sounds... I have some around here.
  2. @@Jeff The droids came just of nowhere. I wanted an old and a bit creepy character, not that of a shiny marble in any way at all. Even old protocol droids should look more polished and shiny than these ones. When I had some ideas, I would look into the enemy droids we see in SWTOR, particularly the ancient droids on Tython. But their design looked too smooth. Accidentally our variant looked more like certain Old Sith Empire battle droids, especially the vizors. So I went away from those images, adding other colors and different vizors. The comic effect, as noticed by @@Jolly, wasn't the purpose from the beginning. But when I made a 3D model and later Olgo moved it into the game - I thought, that it was just what we needed. Most charactera are either too serious, or too good-looking, so I wanted to add a crude NPC, which would be far from the exquisite design of Coruscant as well as from elegant details of other planets like Anarmar of Uffel. However I would like to add these droids to later levels, though they are most likely not our enemies in those missions, but rather NPCs in the background. I also thought, whether the droid would glimpse anything familiar, and I am glad, that @@Mandalorian mentioned AT-AT (which btw is present in our mod as well).
  3. Thanks for your comments! I agree, that the droid is somehow simple compared to other machines seen in Star Wars. But actually that's the point: you encounter these droids on Ord mantell at old junkyard. It is not possible to see a shine battle unit there, and a professional assassin droid, all polished and new, is also a rare image on this planet, and especially in this place. The droids might have had additional elements on their body, like switchable hands, additional relays, plates, etc. But the droids are old, most of their parts are gone and no longer can be replaced. I mentioned an unknown owner - this person found a stock of these droids to guard his property - the old factory on Ord Mantell. He doesn't think about repainting them or upgrading them in any way. He uses what was left by manufacturer (or anyone else), who was dissatisfied with their service in the years prior to the Clone Wars. But that's from the point of the plot. The other reason, why the model looks the way it is - these droids appear for the most part only once in the whole mod. They are seen later too, but no longer in the same way as on Ord Mantell. Creating a mode advanced model of such a character - which has a small part in the plot - seemed to be out of place a bit
  4. I became a fan of GOT just a few months ago and watched all the series and can't wait for the next season (I guess that's another headache for the next 4 years). Moddb has several notable works related to GOT, but I never truly tracked those. I am glad someone wants to release GOT material, but for Star Wars. We already have several LOTR models and maps, as well as some Harry Potter locations (not to mention other non-fantasy franchises). For me King's Landing is one of the favourite locations, with its red walls and archways close to those of Vizantian Empire. It is for sure not the place for true adventures, rather a home to intrigues, murders and betrayals. While Castle Black is more about dangers, heroism, dedication and mysterious spirits from the North. Seeing a new start is always nice, but I would prefer to see more detailed things from both the exterior and interior of Castle Black. Being as simple as it is, the location of the Order has so much to offer. Hope you will show us more here soon
  5. @@DT85 They said, that no Kyle Katarn in Episode VII for sure (unfortunately he is part of Legends section now, but I have his action figure near my working place and Legends can't change that ). It was rumoured, that there will be a hint towards such characters as Kyle. I guess that means, we will see some former Rebels, even if they weren't in the OT. I guess the part with stealing the Death Star plans is also no longer canon (too bad, and I hope in Canon section that remains the mystery rather than explained then). @@Archangel35757 It is good, that most rumours remain rumours now. One of the news mentioned, that the Jedi Order is nothing like what we are familiar with. @ It actually was - the lightsaber wasn't a unique weapon. There were many variants, for instance, that it was a weapon originally carried only by Emperor's knights. It was a weapon of stormtroopers in other scripts. Speaking of which, every SW generation presented a new lightsaber technique or other novice. E.g. Dark Forces II showed various colors, TPM introduced the double bladed saber (though it was known earlier), AotC presented Dooku's saber (and 2 sabers at once - Anakin), and RotS - a villain with 4 sabers at once. TFU showed an alternative way of holding this weapon, while Rebels also introduced a new lightsaber of the Inquisitor. As for the droids. One of the shots published in the net shows a new model of astromech droid (which seems to be quite old even by the time of Episode VII). The one you found:
  6. This looks quite interesting. It is clear, that such a model can be used in a variety of reskins. Like a mysterious bounty hunter, hiding his face behind a mask and a hood, or a mercenary on a spy mission against the Jedi, wearing a Jedi robe as a disguise.
  7. It's a new trend, as it seems - in most projects they use the old sketches and concepts for various Star Wars material. Clone Wars show (and that's one of my favourite locations in the whole series) - the large plaza, created by McQuarrie for OT, but Coruscant never made it there. We also can't see that in the prequels, but the area is shown in later Clone Wars episodes. So I feel, that J.J.Abrams understands this and is (more importantly) have heard, what fans say about new trilogy. I also think, that he is one of the people, who knows and likes the benefits of such shows like Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, and classic Star Wars - most images are taken from those. One of the latest news is that another actor from Game of Thrones joined the team of Star Wars. But this is most likely a rumour. It is notable though, that in the mentioned show this actor (Miltos Yerolemou) had the part of a duelist master, who taught a little girl to hold her sword. So perhaps we might see someone effectively wielding a lightsaber?
  8. @ No, actually I didn't, because I tried to draw your attention to a bit different subject: not the fact, that the helmet were legit (posted by @@DT85), but the fact, that a fellow SW fan noticed the lights on the helmet, which match the roof windows of Pinewood studios, as seen on Google Maps (!). That proves that the helmet is also real and physical object...
  9. About helmet. Has anyone seen this thread? It is notable, that one user there noticed one minor detail about the new stormtrooper helmet. Not that is eagle's eye!
  10. Hello everyone! You might have read the latest news already, that we've added another character to Dark Pastime - the old droid. It's a droid model from the Old Republic times, created by an unknown manufacturer (most likely bankrupt) about 50 years before the events of Dark Pastime. Someone acquired a large set of these machines to guard the abandoned factory and the nearby areas on Ord Mantell.
  11. @@Cerez Well, there is one good thing about Clone Wars and its ending for sure: the experience. I mean, that after all these years of work Dave Filoni and his team learnt quite a lot of things about making animated series, working with the animation itself and about Star Wars by the way. I do hope, they'll use the already proven methods to create the episode of Rebels. I would say, that I feel positive here: just look at the previews and trailers. I saw Ugnaughts, Aqualishes (in a peculiar helmet), Rodians and other species. The clothing style is also to admire: while some characters have something done with their hair (in the background, look precisely), others wear gear and hats, inspired by old concept art for Star Wars IV-VI. I myself recognized a helmet (or whatever it is), which can be seen on an older concept art for Obi Wan Kenobi. You can see this here in minifigures released much later, which take upon that early design.
  12. It's a wonder, that both Reborn warriors (phase 1) and Dark Jedi/Sith Acolytes were released by Lucasarts almost at the same time for two different games - Jedi Outcast and KOTOR. I wonder if they were inspired by the same source. In any case it seems that this image - a warrior in a hood - came through a whole generation of Star Wars games (if not to say beyond). I do remember Jedi hunter and as soon as I saw him, I though - hey, that's a Hello from JA and KOTOR, how wonderful!
  13. @ Though not being the fan of Jar Jar, I guess he still replaced certain emptiness in the story. He actually reminds me of minor fools in classic stories, which still play their part in a manner of assisting major characters. It's more like a Medieval knight fighting against real evil, and his a squire, who bears his armor, but remains out of certain events, because he is naive, silly or just a coward. Though that's surely not a pattern to be seen everywhere. I guess the element of silliness will still be present even in the new films. At least that's what point out one of the videos. The above mentioned Star Trek actually has lots of such minor episodes throughout the film. In case of Star Wars, I guess, the return of only some of the main cast won't work fine. I just remembered, what it is like with other franchises - in Starship Troopers the character of Johny Rico returns in film 3, but he is the only one. The film didn't pull it out and was a failure (to many reasons of course). The feel of emptiness is present in certain Star Trek shows, when we see only one familiar face among many new ones. I might say, that it's essential and even vital for all of the Millenium Falcon to be seen in Episode VII at least. They are the main representatives of the Star Wars traditions, the ones upon which the whole Saga stands and many other stories are based on. It's like a dish or a cocktail - without certain components the taste is most likely not the same. Though I did enjoy the latest ST, I must say, that creating a new - alternative - timeline was a move, greatly criticized by Trekkies. Knowing some of them, I would say, that there people which gave up ST after such official neglecting of older movies. Similar ideas were voiced by people, when Star Wars Underworld series and later Episode VII were announced. The OT is a sacred thing which will never (and should never) be touched. If they are replaced by new stuff it will bring the collapse of lots of things and the demise of Star Wars itself. I agree with you on the point, that it would be interesting to see film ,telling us the story like a century before or after ROTJ. And some people suggest, they eventually will - with two more standalone films it would be unwise not to explore new areas in such large Galaxy in a different timeline. @ Though now deemed to be non-canon, books, comics and JA suggest Boba Fett survived on Tatooine that fateful day and might return. If not in Episode VII, then in a different film. It is true, that the story of Luke Skywalker was not complete in Episode VI. It was felt even after they released books and additional material on the days of the New Republic after ROTJ. However... There is a minor thing about Episode VII on this account (spoiler alert!):
  14. @@therfiles @ Thanks! I am looking for it from time to time in various sources (back to good memories, when I did the same for Episode II and III), but the main one is still Theforce.net. It's feels more like a puzzle or a detective investigation: you put the pieces together and yet you are not much closer to solving it. The Imperial Shuttle? It could be, though the "nose" in the picture is longer, don't you think? Yet, you might be close to truth, and that might be a part of a newer version of an Imperial Shuttle.
  15. @ They never stated it officially, but most people speculate that he will indeed take that role of his older Master. Even before Episode VII first spoilers some people said, that after Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker would bring the lightsaber to someone that of a new generation... AS for the pictures, I saw only the last one before. It's clearly a starship... I guess that we will see Star Destroyers, modified and more advanced perhaps. The first one was seen from a different angle. The second is most likely the artowrk of Ralph McQuarrie, whose concepts have been in active usage for the last 20 years, lots of Clone Wars Episodes as well as the prequels used these. The oriental ark, as @@Darth Futuza mentioned, is notable to be seen several times in Star Wars now. The most obvious is that it's a nearby gate of Jabba the Hutt's Palace on Tatooine as seen in The Force Unleashed. A similar design was seen in the Clone Wars series as well, but it's not of the Hutt style I guess... The B'Omarr monks are the ones to create such things. Is the photo with the Millenium Falcon old or new? There've been several posts about the return of the ship. Also (spoiler): One of the most interesting news of late is perhaps the already known re-design of Imperial stormtroopers. Though I do like it, the older one was more like Star Wars. The new version reminds of other Sci-Fi movies, released in the last 5-10 years (e.g.Total Recall with Farrell). There is also a concept art drawing of older Han Solo in the net. The thing which feels like "A great disturbance in the Force" is perhaps the following (warning! major spoilers!) On Princess Leia (and someone else from OT): On main villain and someone else (another one) from the OT:
  16. I wonder whether I should post anything here. Not that I am a very big fan, but I watched all of the episodes. And as I said before there are stories, which I like, and there are those, which I really hate. It's notable, that I met both people, who like the prequels and despised the CW show, and those, who admired the OT for the most part and found the new series amusing or even captivating. For the episodes, which I really don't like, I would say, that in my opinion these are the ones, which step away from Star Wars traditions. What I mean, is that you change the title and call the episode differently, and nothing changes. It can be seen anywhere. In my opinion Season 1 was a tryout, and had lots of things, which were changed much later with show development. The stories in this season are what Yoda was saying in Episodes V-VI - the Jedi do not live upon adventures and do not enjoy such things. Look at the operation of Anakin and Ahsoka on the secret station of general Grievous near Ruusan. The other thing which feels like a disadvantage - most sets and elements are too repetitive: the clones look alike, the droids look alike. The interior of the ships which are mostly grey. For some reasons the grey and white designs of the Empire in OT look much better! So perhaps this is where I would say, that the color is somehow the weak side of the show (in Season 1 at least). I also feel doubtful about the music score in some of the episodes. The above mentioned episode with Ruusan also had very strange motives, which I wouldn't like to hear in Star Wars... But I must admit, that there were moments which were quite joyful. Even some close to John Williams style. The other things, which are seen almost in every CW season, is a doubtful retcon. While some stories proved to be better than the previously established canon, I feel uneasy, that some familiar traditions are wiped out so easily. The most notable and I expressed that previously - is the return of Darth Maul. The whole this change with Assaj Ventress and count Dooky apprentices is very dubious... I don't like, that Assaj is no longer a Rattataki, I don't like the idea that the witches of Dathomir live alongside the zabrak village. The story of Rattataki heretage is much better and feels more real about Assaj. I also dislike the way the witches develop a plot against Dooku, and later Mother Talzin helps Savage to find his brother. Why? They don't explain at all... Too bad. And a shame. The return of Darth Maul makes the whole story and feel of Episode I diminish. For me TPM was like a remote before-the-large-hurricane situation. And Darth Maul was like a massive wind throw, which everyone considered to be the threat, while the real one awaited 10 years later. For me Darth Maul was like a symbol of the old Sith, of what Darth Sidious designed to happen before the battle of Naboo. I guess even the Empire would be different. However Maul died and all the plans changed. This theory is no longer alive with new stories, including one of Clone Wars. It's strange, that Sidious didn't feel Maul was dead... In any case Maul was more like a shadow, a speechless assassin. In CW he has ambitions, which wouldn't have developed even if he had survived and wanted revenge on Kenobi... But that's my opinion. The arc with Maul and the one with Assaj actually have their good sides. But not in this thread.
  17. @Ceres Thanks! I actually figured that out after trying the commands yesterday. I was hoping someone would make the same for HEADSHAKE animation, because the whole upper body depends upon this this shaking head, which looks weird in some cases.
  18. The story shifted towards more seriousness over time. For instance, what do "Banking deregulations" have to do with children? What about corruption in the government? These episodes among several others are for older audience, or it seems so. There was even an article that Clone Wars is becoming less an animation and might be considered to be the best political series at the time. SW Rebels take place 5 years before battle of Yavin. This means, that Ezra Bridger will grow up and become a young man, with his own ideology and principles, formed through struggle against the Empire and Jedi teachings. Episode IV will the peak, just like Episode III was for Clone Wars. It will be the time, when we might even ask questions like "Will Ezra survive up to Episode IV?" or "Why can't we see Kanan near Obi Wan Kenobi?" (the same happened with Ahsoka Tano).
  19. What a nice addition. I wonder if in order to use just head_nod animation you actually print the command set_face? E.g. should it be: set ( /*@SET_TYPES*/ "SET_FACE", /*@ANIM_NAMES*/ "BOTH_HEADSHAKE" ); I would like to try this one. And I am curious if there is a set_face_holdtime command as well.
  20. I agree with @@DT85 Angela Harry would be a perfect match, but it's (surprisingly) difficult to find a proper HD picture of her, despite she is a model.
  21. @ Thanks for kind words. But that's what I believe. Empire strikes back had mostly positive reviews if not more. It's just that Episode IV laid the traditions of Star Wars, which are observed in all further materials, be it Knights of the Old Republic, Dark Forces or The Force Unleashed. As for Episode V - people were annoyed by C-3PO. To tell the truth, I remember that people were comparing the protocol droid in ESB to Jar Jar Binks in Episode I. I like what @@CrimsonStrife says about the show getting darker. It's a interesting trait, which underlines the fact, that the series become more mature, more serious. I rewatched selected episodes from seasons 1-5 (my favourite is Season 3), where we can see, that the first one is more about Clones, Jedi adventures, droids, duels and cool space battles and starships. There is almost no philosophy (even though some stories present challenges of friendship, devotion, etc). At one point the characters begin to grow up, including Anakin and Ahsoka - I guess that's the moment when people started less criticizing her in CW. The show changes significantly by Seasons 5-6, where we see "imperialization", deeper dramas in characters' lives and the closeness of both Episode III and Episode IV, even if it seems strange. You might notice, that even the music in the show changed from funny, adventurous and sometimes childish songs to more mysterious, unorthodox motives, closer to SW classic soundtrack. @@Onysfx @@Circa We might expect a bit more about stormtroopers here, but I guess some patterns from the Original Trilogy will prevail - stormtroopers are "personlesss", unlike clones, which gained individuality even being almost identical to each other. Certain memes or new stuff are most likely to appear in the show, but I doubt stormtroopers will ever get off their helmets - that's never happened. At least I can't remember that in any source with them. It is said Billy Dee Williams will participate in the series. I am almost certain Jennifer Hale will kindly provide her wonderful voice for one or more characters in the show.
  22. We must be frank: Star Wars is a franchise which lives upon the shoulders of many generations - from 4-year-old boys (anf girls) to 90-year-old people. The majority is no doubt - the younger audience. But surely there is an older part of fans, which were children during Episodes IV-VI. The times have changed and the traditions and style as well. Some things can no longer work the way they did with us, the older generation. Star Wars Rebels was from the start announced as an animated series. If so, we can't expect some seriousness here... If they wanted seriousness they would have made a TV series with real actors. But it would require more time, money and is far more risky, if something happens. A lot of such shows have already been closed even being at its peak of popularity - like Firefly and V (2009). Fans asked to continue them, but to no avail. So I guess Rebels is a choice to create something notable (or less notable), but still having the feel of Star Wars, but not risking to ruin everything completely. I would give the series a chance. Even Episode V irritated for certain reasons a lot of fans back in 1980s (believe or not, nobody cares now, as there other things to "hate", and a variety of choice in this sense). Then Episode VI came. I see the same pattern here: The Clone Wars are terrible, very terrible. Oh wait, they are not that bad, because we've seen 7 minutes of Star Wars Rebels! These seven minutes of Rebels show quite some things, which make it outstanding in contrast to Clone Wars. Do you remember the first episode of Clone Wars? We had just a planet with some corals, toydarians, clones, Yoda, Ventress and droids. What do we see here? A large city, different buildings, lot of Aurekbesh posters here and there, minor details like pipes, furniture, boxes, etc in the streets. We don't have just stormtroopers, we also have Imperial officers, which actually look different (not a retexture, but a new model, with different faces, noses, eye color, even voices). Then we have ugnaughts, gotals, rodians, ithorians and different humans in the background. There is also no problem with sound and music. The series will be childish in any case - the authors were greatly inspired by Hayao Miyazaki, who brought to us quite a lot of very good stories, nicely done both in plot and style and illustration. Some of his traits are seen even here in a small trailer. Even if the series proves to be bad (whatever), the whole franchise is as good as it is - I ignore the stories I dislike and everything comes to its place.
  23. Veers can be made from AT-ST, I think, As a reskin. I am also positive, that I've seen a WIP of Tarkin on one of the websites. THough the model has never been released, in that I am sure. Piett can be made through reskinning as well.
  24. @@OmarFW I am almost sure it won't. I feel, that the actors were caught by surprize, when they were invited to participate in Episode VII. Some news indicated, that back in 1980s Lucas said to Mark Hamill at least, that some time later he would be filming a new saga with new characters, but he would also ask the current (in 1970s) team to return to reprise the role of good old Luke Skywalker. And Mark Hamill considered that just to be a joke. It might be off-topic, but I can name only one other franchise, which was developed in similar way - "V". It was a popular TV series about alien invasion back in 1980s. Many years later in 2009 V was re-booted. I must say the show was quite something, but after 2 season it was closed. In any case, two members of older cast returned in the new show. They have a bit different roles (Jane Badler played an alien named Diana in 1980s, and is an alien with the same name of Diana in 2009 series, the other (Marc Singer) is a member of the resistance, and belongs to similar organization in newer seasons).
  25. Having looked through one of the earlier screenshots, I noticed two of strange astromech droids there. They look like a droid from Episode IV, but now I wonder whether these are actually the next generation of astromech droids. Just like the new X-Wing starfighter. If they have less round bodies, how can they fit into X-Wing or other ships?
