I think I deserve a public apology by both the staff and by members of the community for the way my person and my good intentions were treated in the following thread:

    https://jkhub.org/topic/9187-autism-acceptance-month/

By no means did I bring up treating autistic people with medicine as a topic in the discussion (as claimed by the attending staff member in closing), and Autism Acceptance Month is a perfectly respectful, official celebration of autism and people on the autism spectrum. My intentions were to raise understanding and acceptance of autism and autistic people in this community, not to seek adoration for myself (as implied, again, by the same said staff member).

You can find more information about Autism Awareness/Acceptance Day and Month here:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Autism_Awareness_Day

    http://www.autismacceptancemonth.com/

I was not aided in this effort, but met with an overwhelming offensive from the community, and eventually from the staff, that is making me seriously think twice whether I should really remain a part of this community.

I have provided plenty of information about this event from the start, so to say that I haven't informed people about the nature of the event, and that I haven't tried to direct the thread to a more positive outlook (as it is supposed to reflect the celebration) would be a lie.

This is not the first time this has happened, and it is obvious to me that there is an overall vulgar, offensive, and aggressive behaviour in the community's approach towards topics started here (regardless of content and context) where I share my sincere views, or dare to show an exploitable weakness, and that whatever I propose is being directly debated just for the sake of debate, without tact, and without consideration to my person, my feelings, my views, and my beliefs.

And I expect that likely other members of this community are experiencing similar treatment. I want to put a public warning out for this.

I want everyone to know that this is not acceptable behaviour. Not here, not anywhere on the net or offline. Respect each others' views, feelings, beliefs, experience, and standing, and don't engage in acts of cyber-bullying in any form, for which you can be held legally liable. (Don't worry, you're not as "untraceable" as you think...)

  3. It's a bit naive to believe that an adult multi-millionaire didn't know to whom he was selling the product that made him rich and famous in the first place.

Despite the godly things others may believe of us, at the end we're all people, at times naive, and prone to mistakes, that's all I can say. Bruce Lee died because he happened to accidentally mix temporary medication for his headache with the pain-killers he was on (due to his back injury).

We may never know the whole truth about George's sale, but I think it pays to give him, and anyone, really, the benefit of the doubt. I did the same with Disney, except they proved me wrong... on more than one occasion... <_<

  4. Oh please Cerez, you're overreacting, just like many others. As if Disney just demolished your childhood home, literally, not metaphorically...

I sincerely don't think I am overreacting -- please don't dismiss my genuine thoughts and feelings on this so rudely -- and is there a difference whether someone's torn down something on your outside or inside? I would say the inside counts more... wouldn't you?

What if I told you that all the stories you loved growing up, they're all invalid now, and no-one cares how you feel or what you think. Even go as far as to tell you that you're no longer a fan of them because you don't like what's been done to them, and the stories that have replaced them. I bet that would make you feel real good.

What if I told you that these were all the results of the actions of one company, and the messages and attitude they are promoting and spreading. How would that make you feel?

...I well know that some of us could say that we grew up watching SW. I could understand your point of view but that is so 2013....

I didn't know that feelings and thoughts had an expiry date...

And like I said, they've already honored the Expanded Universe with characters like Jyn Erso & Cassian Andor in Rogue One. That's a lot from a major film company.

<_< I don't think that's a "lot" at all... In fact they've done as little as they could for the fandom, and most things that they've done so far have been empty publicity stunts. Just consider how Leia's and Tarkin's appearance will look like in 7 years' time in Rogue One (if anyone even talks about that movie by then)...

I would have preferred more work, more fleshed out characters, more authenticity, better original stories instead of the lame, template-based imitations they have produced. Yes, this is my opinion/outlook, and not everyone will agree with me, but it is valid just the same. Please don't tell me I'm "overreacting".

  5. Well, then he should have sold it in the first place -_-<_<

He was hoping that someone like Disney, with their established good reputation, will be able to do so much more and build upon what he started, faithfully. Disney has changed, however. They're not what they once used to be...

    9f84d133a41f06842224d4983bf166849ce43a58

And it's no crime to want to profit on your product/creation. How you go about it is the question in terms of morals.

  6. @, I am honestly astounded by how easily you've dismissed the old and adopted the new in its place. I suppose you've never felt any real attraction to the old stories? And how are you taking the character perspective changes to Leia, Luke, Han, and the now up-and-coming Obi-Wan -- the same way? Or are you not really noticing the changes (yet)? I'm curious.

I don't want to try and convince anyone or tell them what they should believe in, but I'm wary of people taking a shallow perspective, and sticking to it defiantly just because they're afraid to diverge from the mainstream (main public opinion/attitude). That creates a completely controllable, mindless mob.

The reason I dislike the new content is not because it replaced the old, but because it did it in what I feel to be with inferior quality. It's an honest assessment in story quality, not a denial.

(It's no different to what I felt with the prequel films -- and still feel to this day.)

    Edit:

Also, let me translate this sentence:

"We can all still enjoy the Expanded Universe, but it's not canon." --> "We can all still enjoy those stories and characters, but they are not considered valid."

What does that make them, now? Have they been downgraded to fan-fiction? Why, and by whose decision? How is this just?

  7. And what if it's not?! o.O No more Jedi's Home.... like... EVER!!!! :o

(Also, I really think we should retitle the map to "Jedi Home", as would be the proper English name for it. It's something that's always bugged me, and I believe was the result of a language mistake on the original author's part.)

(I propose "Jedi Home: Temple Edition" -- that way when people search for a "jedi temple" map, they'll also find it. :))

  8. Also, I've realised why I have such an affinity for the Mickey Mouse Emperor visual idea/concept. What I described happening above is not at all dissimilar to:

Obi-Wan Kenobi: "You have allowed this Dark Lord to twist your mind..."

...in a fictionalised, exaggerated way of course.

I believe this is the main reason George Lucas referred to the Disney executives as "white slavers" as well (once again, a frustration induced illustrative exaggeration) -- what he meant to say is that they took what was precious to him, his creation, his unique child, and treated it with cruelty, enslaving it to their will, and not allowing it to continue to grow free and natural with the fandom.

  9. @the_raven, please create a new thread for this in the Modding Assistance forum (where it belongs) and invite @@Kualan by mentioning his name. Not to be rude, but it's getting annoying checking back every time when seeing a new post here, hoping that the next issue is out, only to find this support conversation furthered instead. Try to keep on topic in threads. (Not trying to be nasty, just asking for some order and clarity...) Thanks. ^_^

  10. But that's my opinion and that's all highly subjective. If it does not fit your vision of how Star Wars should be, then I understand that, but it does fit mine.

Like I said... I'm a lunatic in a sane asylum. But I'll try and take @@Ramikad's advice, and just follow my nose and persist to my best conscience.

    2d1a307320071f15e8a8dee505b8e471.jpg

And regardless of any of that, it does not necessarily mean there will never be a "good" (by your standards) installment again.

That is true, and I'm still hopeful that Star Wars will fall into different hands and/or direction at some point, and the franchise will be saved from turning into utter and complete, non-sensical, commercial rubbish.

Being overly fanatic about the EU and totally rejecting the new films is like turning your back to the franchise. Are you Star Wars fans or not? The movies are what matters, games and comics fill in the gaps and keep up the popularity of the franchise....

See, the problem I have with this outlook is that I am a Star Wars fan, but of the older content, and not -- not at all -- a fan of the new. So where does that put me? Am I no longer a Star Wars fan just because I do not like the new content one bit? Am I turning my back on Star Wars, the stories and characters I love?

And to say that the EU doesn't matter, and only the movies count, is a blunt oversimplification and unjust segregation of the spectrum that is Star Wars content and its fans. You have fans who were not at all impressed with the prequel films, and yet they were big fans of the content that sprung from them. The same way, there are certain stories in the EU/Legends lore that deserve the love and high praise they got from fans.

This kind of perspective is arrogant and ignorant, and -- please know I'm not having a go at you, here -- it is an attitude that the big heads at Disney and similar market-leading publishing houses are dictating, for their own simplicity and commercial gain, and the people are absorbing.

  11. I may be wrong, but I do believe this is a code-side restriction. Your options are to:

    A. Download the OpenJK source, edit and compile it to your liking. (You can do this on a Mac as well, you just need to install CMake.)

    B. Use a mod, as @the_raven has suggested, that already has this code tinkered with.

    C. Throw a tantrum and jump around like a lunatic, maybe even smash your computer, though I can't guarantee this will produce the desired result.

  12. The article I posted points out that fans have been complaining about the direction the series is/was going since The Empire Strikes Back. (Probably earlier than that, actually.)

While I can see your point, and I condone, I don't think you grasp just how severely the new artistic and producer's direction is affecting the future of the franchise. Furthermore, the quality of Star Wars content has undeniably been declining over the years. You only need to look at the production history to see that -- ever since the release of the third film in the original trilogy. Therefore, the fans are for the most part not wrong or hypochondriac about Star Wars, I would say. Star Wars has never sunk so low as it is now, or is going to sink in the coming years.

  13. But there are more good games than before.

Hmm... debatable... Not my experience. I suppose it depends on what you've experienced, and what you consider to be "good". If it is quality/originality in gameplay compared to that of the late 80s and early 90s, then I would judge most certainly not. If it is world-building, then perhaps, from a certain point of view... (Although you could argue that today's games give less to the player's imagination, and, therefore, take away from the world they are trying to build.)

My main gripe is that most of today's stories, be it films or games, are produced to well established and shallow templates, and have really lost their dedicated, deep human touch. This applies to Star Wars content, too.

  14. I did write up some of this information (in reverse) in a tutorial on bot relationships:

The first contains the user readable "name" of the character's BOT file (found in the "scripts" folder). This value can contain spaces, and it doesn't need to be wrapped in quotation marks in the JKB file like it is in the BOT file, but it must match what is in the user readable "name" setting of the other character's BOT file for it to work.

    Have a look here: https://jkhub.org/tutorials/article/199-emotional-attachments-in-bots/

It will help you understand an section of the JKB files that is rarely mentioned/discussed, as well as serve as somewhat of a general introduction into how the connection between BOT and JKB files works.

  15. For all the content out there, I have to say, quality-wise (in the areas that matter, such as gameplay for a video game) the selection is rather poor, and what *is* quality gets lots in the gazillions of nice looking wasteware. So I will have to agree with @the_raven's perspective. It's not to say that everything is rubbish, but there sure is a lot of rubbish out there -- more than there ever was before...

Hayao Miyazaki stated just before his retirement that this was one of the primary reasons for him losing motivation to create as well -- that people have forgotten to appreciate quality, and have settled for much less.

  16. I dunno, I personally love the fact that retro mods exist. There are ton of old school mods that are great, so why not new mods in old engines?

Each to their own, I say. There's no reason why anyone can't make anything they like if they enjoy it. But being a Dark Forces fan does not make me hyped to play this, necessarily, or "rejoice". ;)

I just installed and played about 10 minutes of it. It wasn't fun. I'm a bit disappointed it wasn't more Dark Forces and less Duke. It's not the visuals, it just doesn't feel like Star Wars.

Thought so. It's good if you're into Duke3D a lot, and you want to do a little crossover and jazz things up for a change.

    Edit:

Eesh... on a side note, do you know I'm old enough to remember what the original Duke Nukem (the 2D platformer) looked and felt like? These old bones grow brittle by the minute! XD

  17. I have a few ideas, and I understand that I mainly need to make screens, edit and arrange them, but how do I animate the characters properly for the screens? :(

I think one way to do it would be to create a simple "greenscreen box" map, and take all your shots in there, then take the green background out in Photoshop, and add whatever background shots you've taken instead. But I'll leave it to the master to answer this question. ^_^
