minilogoguy18 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Hopefully NPCs will behave as they do in SP soon, bots are so dumb and unchallenging to fight. TheDoctor, Evulant and Unifermius like this
Kessno Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Hopefully NPCs will behave as they do in SP soon, bots are so dumb and unchallenging to fight. Agreed. If people think the SP AI is bad, MP is atrocious. It's been awhile since I played MP, but didn't the bots have 'slightly' better intelligence if the player requested to duel with them? Even then, not enough to really brag about.
mrwonko Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Improving AI is not a focus at OpenJK at the moment, but it might be something to investigate in the future. I agree that better AI is better.
Link Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 In terms of Steam, is it at all possible to patch people with any upgrades via that? Or will a standalone installer be used that covers both the CD version and Steam version?
Setlec Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Steam version should be the very same version as cd version with updates. If a new "patch" comes out one thing for sure is that steam won't deploy it. specialy since it's a non official patch.
Stoiss Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 we can hope most of does who use the steam version know about this site here then they will be able update it if they like to
Setlec Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 well i only found out about this site while reading a post on LucasForums... I also browse jediknight3.filefront.com, so i was until today ignorant of this site. it would good to assume that many doesn't know about this and it would good also to advert on filefront moddb and alike.

Teancum Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I wonder how much of this could apply retroactively to Voyager Elite Force. If I remember right it uses either MD2 or MD3 character models, but the scripting, BSP structure, and overall AI should be largely the same. ***EDIT*** More info -- http://eliteforce.gamebub.com/skinning.phpAlso, several Elite Force source files (READ: not the full source) were previously released by individual Raven folk. See this (scroll way down for Elite Force stuff). It'd be cool to merge Elite Force and Soldier of Fortune stuff in. http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/developer/Raven_Software;115 Also, SOME source was released by Ritual Entertainment for Elite Force 2 (also a Id Tech 3 game). Might be interesting to have a fork that goes that route. -- http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/developer/ritual_Entertainment;1513 It's not much, but hit helps. ***EDIT #2*** Could I also make one request and ask that the Jedi Outcast mulitplayer gametypes be ported to JA (if they haven't already been - I haven't been an active JK series player for years). therfiles, Evulant and Jango40 like this
tinny Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Getting the source to work with elite force is a brilliant idea, i loved that game so much. Eezstreet, quick question. Is OpenJK built on top of Open Jedi Project? That had years of bug fixes in the already released portions of the game so would save the community a lot of effort . Man, the opening up of the source is so exciting!

Man, the opening up of the source is so exciting!I'm not eezstreet, may I still answer? If not, screw you I'm doing it anyway. No, this is not built on top of Open Jedi Project, it's largely orthogonal to it. You can still play Open Jedi Project in OpenJK. OPJ is a Mod, OpenJK the engine (although an improved modbase is included with the source).

This is a mod thing, and isn't something we're going to actively support (OpenJK isn't a gameplay changer, it's a general game improvement suite) Getting the source to work with elite force is a brilliant idea, i loved that game so much. Eezstreet, quick question. Is OpenJK built on top of Open Jedi Project? That had years of bug fixes in the already released portions of the game so would save the community a lot of effort . Man, the opening up of the source is so exciting! No, it's built off of modbase, which is better in terms of bugfixes, since it's had all of the OJP fixes, plus more. Not to say it isn't compatible with OJP though, it most certainly is. And I hear there's a new version of EoC which uses SP code as well.
Serenity937 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Its a very early Pre vis http://www.moddb.com/mods/serenitysabersystems/downloads/evolution-of-combat-iii-singleplayer-sdk-mod should be available and authorised in 2/3 hours you will need the full EoCiii mod + updates to fully run and test this single player mod http://www.moddb.com/mods/serenitysabersystems/downloads/evolution-of-combat-iii-final-extended-edition plus the latest patches to be fully up to date 1.http://www.moddb.com/mods/serenitysabersystems/downloads/evolution-of-combat-iii-patch 2.http://www.moddb.com/mods/serenitysabersystems/addons/eociii-the-latest-build If you want to play jedi outcast in EoCIII Multiplayer try this JKO/EoCIII conversion patch http://www.moddb.com/mods/serenitysabersystems/downloads/outcast-evolved-previs-alpha-pilot Big thumbs up to eezstreet for his efforts towards getting JKA SDK released..... katanamaru likes this

Raz0r Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Is OpenJK built on top of Open Jedi Project? That had years of bug fixes in the already released portions of the game so would save the community a lot of effort The game/cgame/ui projects have been replaced by modbase, which was a more recent effort at providing a clean and secure code base, including fixes not present in the dated OJP Basic project.

Reymey Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Okay, got a slight problem here. When I open the link for where the download is (whether JO or JA), a message box pops up saying "As of 2013-04-08, this project is no longer under active development." When I click the download button, another message pops up saying "Unable to find any mirror information for the "/asteroids_code.zip" file. Please select another file."Is the source no longer available for these two games? It seems ludicrous of them to release it--for what, a week?--and then delete the files. Is there any other location one might get a hold of it? Anyone willing to upload them? This is incredibly frustrating.

The main project, OpenJK, is here - that's basically the original code with various improvements. (Not quite ready yet, give it a couple of days.)
Reymey Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Well that's annoying. Is there nowhere else one can download it?

Glad I grabbed it while I could.
Forceboat Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Well that's annoying. Is there nowhere else one can download it? Yes, there is, because I Googled them and located them, hopefully these are the ones everyone has been downloading, I put this in the official news announcement thread as well: Jedi Outcast Source Code: http://www.shacknews.com/files/get/34856 Jedi Academy Source Code: http://www.shacknews.com/files/get/34854

Seems someone must be working really hard to avoid spreading these files. Fortunately, I found yet another link which actually worked. You can get it (Jedi Academy source code) here: http://www.shacknews.com/file/34854/star-wars-jedi-knight-jedi-academy-source-code-10 EDIT: Although, now, I've jumped on the bandwagon of the OpenJK project anyway. Still, it's nice to have the official, untouched release as well just in case.
eezstreet Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 Jedi Knight 2 and Jedi Academy repos have been pulled officially by Raven. Raven will not disclose exactly why the repos were pulled down, in order to not draw further attention to the issue. The coding community is well aware of the issue and we've been proactive in eliminating any further concern with it. So far we have no word as to when they're coming back up (if at all) OpenJK is still up/unaffected by these problems, and we are uncertain what's in store for the source code. I'll let you know once we get an ETA or any further word.
