Two factor authentication on JKHub šŸ”’
Just a quick little update here for you guys. Due to a lot of security breaches and hacks that have been going on around the internet over the last year or so, and an uptick in spam posts recently, we've enabled two-factor authentication as an option for all accounts, and a requirement for all staff accounts. This won't necessarily fix the spam problem, but hopefully it allows users a little more security if they desire it.
If you aren't familiar with two factor authentication (also known as 2FA), or multi-factor authentication, it basically enables you to use a second method for confirming that it is you that signs in, by using another device or account that you have approved to use as an authentication method. Typically this is through an SMS or an authenticator app. The method we have enabled is the latter, authentication apps such as Google Authenticator (Android | iOS)and Authy (Android | iOS). Chances are you're using one of those apps already, so this should be easy for you. If you haven't and want to learn, check out this link for a quick explainer on that.
Visit the link below to enable 2FA on your JKHub account.

    Jedi Outcast turns 21! šŸŽ‚
In other news, this month marked the 21st birthday of Jedi Outcast, which isn't as exciting as the 20th, but in the States JK2 is old enough to legally drink, so raise a pint! šŸ» If you weren't around for the 20th anniversary last March, or you haven't gotten around to watching it yet or just live under a rock, last year I had the privilege of talking with a handful of the developers that were at Raven Software at the time and helped make Jedi Outcast.
The full interview was about 2 hours long, but if you want just a little taste of it, I do have a short little clip on my main YouTube channel below that's about 15 minutes if you want to just hear a bit to decide if you want to hear the full thing. It was really cool getting to hear them just reminisce about that time and see their passion for making that game. I plan on doing it again later this year for Jedi Academy too, fingers crossed, so subscribe to the channel or keep an eye here around August/September as we get closer to the actual 20th anniversary for Jedi Academy.

    Ideas for Jedi Academy AnniversaryšŸ’”
Speaking of Jedi Academy, if you guys have any ideas for ways to celebrate the 20th anniversary that are feasible to do, let me know. Is there a specific kind of contest you want to see? Is there any interest in some kind of server meet up or event someone has in mind to help with? There's only so much I can do on my own, so any help or ideas would be welcome. Leave in the comments below or contact me directly.

Itā€™s no secret that older games are increasingly harder to get into, especially as support for them on modern systems continues to dwindle down and the more steps you have to take to get them to work properly continues to rise. Then, once you get the game running, you are taken aback by the graphics after being used to playing the latest AAA games and immediately go hunting for mods to enhance the graphics and experience to help you enjoy your time. Or maybe you literally have no idea how to play the game, but enjoy it enough to learn more about getting better. Well, here is some basic info to hopefully make all of that easier when it comes to Jedi Academy.
This game is turning 20 years old this year, and it is still one of the greatest Star Wars games of all time with an active modding and player community. I took some time making a video and written guide on all of the basics of getting started with Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy in 2023. Keep in mind this is geared towards new or returning players, so it is meant to be as simple as possible. Watch the video below or read the written guide at the bottom below that.

It's been 20 years since Jedi Outcast launched in 2002, if you can believe that. This masterpiece of a game truly defined what it means to be Jedi in a video game, even to this day, with its intricate lightsaber combat and Force powers. Continuing the Dark Forces story, Outcast follows the mercenary turned Jedi, Kyle Katarn, after he shuts himself off from the Force and returns to being an agent of the New Republic.
With such a milestone anniversary, I really wanted to do something special here, and unfortunately I did not get this published in time for the actual day, yesterday. I'm hoping I will be forgiven for being late with how great this project turned out.
I got a chance to sit down with 5 of the developers of Jedi Outcast over a Zoom call and not only did they take time to talk with me about this wonderful game, but they talked to me for nearly 3 hours. I cut it down to just 2 hours. It's clear from the very beginning that they were truly passionate about this game and consider it their proudest achievement. Take a look at the video below and listen as they reminisce and chat about development and that era of their careers!

Everyone been nice, with a pinch of naughty this year? šŸŽ…
It's been quite awhile since we've done a end of year holiday or Christmas event around here, mostly due to lack of activity. We used to do Secret Santa events but that requires a lot of participants and many great mods made for them don't end up getting released, so we don't really do that anymore. But since Christmas is my personal favorite holiday and season, we're going for it.
I figured we can keep the mod contest train going, and take a stop through Christmas town! Of course this isn't discriminatory against any end-of-the-year holidays, this can include Christmas, New Years, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, St. Lucy, Las Posadas, St. Nicholas, Omisoka, Boxing Day, and any others that I forgot. If your culture celebrates it in December-ish, it qualifies.
    Rules:
All submissions must be Christmas or other end-of-year holiday themed (Santa, gifts, snow, reindeer, menorahs, dreidels, kinaras, evergreen trees with lights, etc.) You can only enter your own creations. You may enter more than one mod. Already existing files cannot be submitted. The goal is to encourage new creations! Any mod content is welcome, including skins, models, maps, weapons, menu mods, etc. Just make sure it abides by theĀ rules. Mods can be for Jedi Academy and/or Jedi Outcast. We will assume mods are for JKA unless specified otherwise. The deadline for submitting content is December 28, 2022, after which a poll will be opened. The poll will be closed by the end of day January 1st, 2023. Need inspiration?
You can view the many Holiday related mods that have been tagged at the link here. For other inspiration take a look at the holiday events that some big live service games put on like Call of Duty (Krampus event in Vanguard/Warzone last year was big), Fortnite, etc.
How do I submit my mod?
Our goal is to make it as simple as possible for everyone involved. The way you submit your file for this contest is to upload them as normal files in our file section, but using the category called Contest Entries. After the contest is over, we will move the mods to their respective categories.

Click the button below, and submit your mod as you normally would. The category should be set to Contest Entries already. If you don't enter it there, your file won't be entered until you do. If you realize that you didn't do that, PM a staff member and we can change it for you. Good luck and happy festive season!Ā šŸŽ„

His mod Kyle's Holiday Afternoon is a charming little mod that I personally voted for, so I'm glad to see it win! Seeing Kyle in a Christmas Sweater getting pummeled by snowballs is something everyone needed, for sure.
Congrats and well done to the other contestants! Hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season, and welcome to 2023! Jedi Academy turns 20 this year, so we have some exciting things planned!

I know, I know. It's a little late. But I think everyone can agree that this is a fun holiday to celebrate, we get really creative submissions, and everyone that would normally participate is probably already working on something with or without the contest, so let's do this.
Halloween contests are all about making spooky mods for Jedi Outcast or Jedi Academy. Think about monsters, goblins, & ghouls. Vampires, zombies, & ghosts. Having a Star Wars twist is always a bonus, in my opinion. You can make maps, playermodels, skins, cosmetic mods, etc. If it goes in a PK3, it's fair game.
    Rules:
All submissions must be Halloween-themed (so scary, spooky, frightening, etc. šŸ‘») You can only enter your own creations. You may enter more than one file. Already existing files cannot be submitted. The goal is to encourage new creations! How do I submit my mod?
Our goal is to make it as simple as possible for everyone involved. The way you submit your file for this contest is to upload them as normal files in our file section, but using the category called Contest Entries.

Click the button below, and submit your mod as you normally would. The category should be set to Contest Entries already. If you don't enter it there, your file won't be entered until you do. If you realize that you didn't do that, PM a staff member and we can change it for you. Good luck and happy sp00ky season! šŸŽƒ

First of all, yes, I made it a little more cozy around here for the holidays. Hopefully that's alright with you. If it's not and you're horrendously offended, you can select the normal theme in the bottom left of the page. For the rest of you, Happy Holidays!Ā šŸŽ…Ā We added a tag for "holiday" themed mods, including winter themed ones so it's easy to find them. Take a look at the list here. If you find one that isn't on this list, report and we'll get that tag added.
Secondly, I wanted to discuss a small change we made to the file section. Though it's simple, I think I need to specify the reasoning and guidelines for it.
In the past, reviews and comments were basically the same thing, with ratings being completely separate. Now since JKHub 2.0, reviews and ratings are one in the same, while comments exist as its own thing. This has created some confusion by some people, and misuse by others. Reviews and comments are quite different, and are exactly what they sound like they should be now, rather than the convoluted mess they were before.
From now on, we will be requiring downloads for reviews to be written. All reviews will be moderated before being approved and displayed. That means you can't just look at the screenshots and decide it's a 5 star mod, or at least not completely. We highly recommend playing or using a mod/file before you bother giving it a review. If you want to give some simple praise or reaction, the comment section is perfect for that. This has been reverted after a year of nearly 0 reviews being written. Read more.
This does not mean you have to write an entire 3 paragraph analysis of the mod. It just means you need to actually put some thought and depth into your review. Did you rate it 5 stars? Why? Only 3? What can be improved?
    What is a review?
    Yes, I'm getting this particular.
    A review IS
an assessment of the content of a mod a descriptive and well written sentence or paragraph or more a constructive collection of criticisms and/or praises according to your subjective opinion and experience using/playing the mod. A review is NOT
a one or two word reaction a simple impression from glancing at the screenshots a request for help or support with the mod/file A comment IS
a short reaction a support question asking for help with the mod/file basically anything that isn't on the list below A comment is NOT
a review, obviously a spam post a advertisement for a similar mod with the intent to draw people away Hopefully this will encourage people to use the mod before giving it a perfect rating, but also avoid spamming the review section with one or two word reactions, instead of well-thought out reviews that help others know more about how the mod is and if it's something they'd be interested in taking the time trying out.

    Upcoming contest
In other news, we won't have a contest for the end of the year, which I know is a bummer to some. We will have on at the start of the new year though, to tie into Book of Boba, so get hyped for that, and you can even get started if you wanted to. The theme will be Star Wars Underworld: Scum, villainy, bounty hunters, Hutts, crime syndicates, the worst sleemos you can think of. Feel free to start planning your entries!Ā Ā

Hey folks, a new contest has been long overdue, I know. I meant to start this one up shortly after the last one but too many things took my attention away. I have way too many hobbies to keep up with. šŸ˜… No summer themed contest this year, but that could be up to you depending on your submission.
Everyone likes mod contests but sometimes itā€™s fun to mix it up and try something different. We have a decent number of in-game photographers, digital artists, and lots of creative people that could make this one really cool.
Essentially this is a contest for who can make the best Jedi Knight-related poster/banner for JKHub. Iā€™ve been wanting something really nice and flashy looking to use for the front page and for social media accounts, and I made one really quick back when we launched the new theme. I can probably spend a lot more time on making a better one, but I figured it would be much better to involve the community.
This isnā€™t just to win and get the award badge on your profile. This will be the new banner on the front page of JKHub in place of the existing one and will be used on social media.
So what qualifies as a banner?
An image in PNG or PSD format. Dimensions at minimum 3200px X 2000px with 72ppi (more is okay). Aspect ratio of 16:10. If you include text, you must also include a textless version. If you include a signature, make it unobtrusive but still legible. Must be related to the Jedi Knight series (particularly Outcast & Academy), including characters, locations, weapons, items, etc. Multiple entries are allowed. Additional orientations are allowed, but a horizontal 16:10 is required. Upload in a ZIP file to ensure no unnecessary compression is added anywhere. No pornographic or ultra violent subjects or content allowed. Huge bonus points if you make a version for each major season of the year or holidays. The deadline to submit is September 24th, 2022. After which we will sort through all submissions over the following days and announce the winner then. By submitting to this contest, you are fully aware that your art will be used by us, for JKHub. Full credit to you will be given when and where possible.
We also reserve the position to not choose any submissions, or to choose multiple. If none are chosen, you still get an award badge and be featured on the contests page. All submissions will be displayed on a page when the contest concludes.
    Need inspiration?
Hereā€™s an album full of the kinds of things Iā€™m looking for. Something like a movie poster or something very cinematic-looking. You can take screenshots in-game, post them in ModView, digital paint, Blender, literally anything.

    How to submit?
You can submit like a normal contest: in the Files section in the Contest Entries category. You can use the button below. You must submit the PNG or PSD file in a ZIP compressed folder file. Include all versions of your work in one zip file. If you are submitting multiple works, please submit them separately.Ā
