  1. @@DT85 Possible your machine isn't quite powerful enough maybe?
  2. Not really, but the catch with something like this is while, yes you'd probably get away with using it personally, but you'd have an issue the moment you tried to distribute, free or not.
  3. Fun little screenshot of UE4 running with Visual Studio 2013 integration for source code edits. I was in the Beta on this bad boy, so nice to finally not have to keep it under wraps.
  4. It would likely come down to the frequency of the updates, which, at least this early on will probably be quite frequent.
  5. At the moment yes, from talking to the licensing team (Helical needs to get our other ones set up) they are working on team licensing and such, but that is still a ways off. So for now, the only option is for every member to have an account and pay at least the first month. Exactly yes, BUT you would only be able to get updates and such for the first month. So if there were a major update a few months later that fixed some issues, or added something you wanted, you would have to renew for at least another month to update. Therefore paying another $19. But even doing it that way, you wouldn't be paying for every month in between.
  6. I thought you guys might be interested to know, that you can actually get UE4 for only one payment of $19. You can sign up, and cancel after the first month, and still use the software as you would normally, with the exception of updates. You can then simply renew for another month every so often to get the latest updates. I'm not sure if this means an inactive subscription still counts as a commercial license, where you could still sell your products. But you can certainly still use the entire engine. You'd have to contact their support to find out how this affects commercial use. https://www.unrealengine.com/faq My favorite part:
  7. Well the UDK is still available as far as I can tell, so there is still a completely free option for non-commercial projects, but no source-code access there. The UE4 upgrade applies to those of us with COMMERCIAL UDK licenses, so I'm not certain how it might apply to any new applicants.
  8. UE4 subscribers can release games commercially by paying 5% of gross revenue from product sales to users (regardless of who collects the revenue). With this model, a game that sells to users on the App Store for $10 would incur a royalty of $0.50 (5% of $10), while you as the developer might receive $7 from Apple (after Apple deducts their 30% distribution fee). UDK developers have the choice of sticking with the current royalty and license system, or using the UDK under these same terms as UE4. Also we get a free subscription to UE4 for a year.
  9. Technically it could be done...best answer is a mod I think actually, and not a stock feature. Thereby it a similar mod could be made that did the above, but you would need a web developer willing to put in the time and effort.
  10. A public chat system for this community would almost certainly be impossible to moderate and would thus be a potential madhouse. It's a forum, make posts and tag people if you want their attention. Also we have PMs for a reason. The only reason the staff have a chatbox is for quickly informing each other of various things such as moderation actions and site maintenance.
  11. Nintendo has free copies of LoZ: Four Swords for 3DS on the e-shop, only for the next 3 days I think.
  12. I don't know, the music was the one part that felt off to me. I guess I just don't see it pairing with the Empire.
  13. Well there was that recent stink where someone DID create a bunch of fake accounts used to rig a poll. But that was remedied, so most of those accounts should now be gone I imagine.
  14. Oh yeah, I did do that....I forgot.
  15. You might be able to yank the rain layer from this video... http://videohive.net/item/rain-steam/4486463?WT.ac=solid_search_item&WT.seg_1=solid_search_item&WT.z_author=VidnoaDesign It'd be a $12 video file, but you can use it in free projects without issue. The main question with it, is what of the effects being used it were individual layers, and what are effects that will need to be rendered out first. But I buy stuff from there all the time. Usually the quality is pretty good. I haven't been able to locate and free ones just yet.
  16. Yeah, regardless of the current plans, this stinks of potential legal issues.
  17. This is entirely true, and would be more so if these old engines could handle legitimate normal maps. My understanding is that there are some ways to fake it, though never tried them. And I wouldn't be too surprised if Eez or someone was working on a way to process normals.
  18. Shit, you mean I've been allowing my morals to intervene all for nothing?
  19. Officially, charging for mods is technically illegal.
  20. In fairness to Chalk on this one...these guys are ugly as fuck, and have no real facial symmetry, so I'm not sure how much free-handing he can avoid.
  21. I feel like it is this angle you are either working at, or rendering at, that is causing many of the issues. Makes it hard to tell scale and perspective. The face seems to be too small for the head...or there is simply too much head...however you want to look at it.
