Dynamic glow.. my favourite option... doesnt work
Circa replied to Langerd's topic in Jedi Knight Tech Support
It doesn't though. I had the same issue with my old PC. Graphics card was up to date. Everything was up to date. My thread on Filefront was full of people saying what you're saying until someone confirmed that not every graphics card supports it. -
Yeah, I was using default Windows File Explorer as well. And default decompression method on OSX. Though I think I tried another app on OSX and didn't work with that either. Pretty sure all files are affected, but one in particular I tried was bespintower.zip in Maps/FFA

Quite a few, but I don't remember. I tried multiple files in different categories. I can try again I suppose. Might make myself look like an idiot, but that's not new. EDIT: @Skyo yeah, just downloaded a bunch of different ones. A few skins, models, maps, utilities. All corrupted. Tried on both Windows and OSX.

Cleaned up the thread, since the OP was using two accounts to post as two people. Accounts and posts merged.

So...where did you install the game to? What folder? It can't find it because you either installed it weird or not at all. Is there no option to browse for the install path on the patch installer?

Some graphics cards don't support it. My old Dell PC didn't support it back in the day. -
What patch? 1.01? Where is your game installed to?

DVDs only hold like, what, 7.5 GB of data? It would take about 9-10 discs to back everything up.
-
Yeah, there should be an easy way to access it, as a public folder like Box.com or Dropbox. But if it's more than 60GB then any solution will cost money. I'd be interested in the torrent as well, though I won't seed it. Would be a good way to download the whole thing though.
-
Any plans on hosting it somewhere? How big is it total? @@Syko was keeping a backup on Box.com where he has a 50GB account, as do I. Would be good places to keep it.

We have over 2000 files. Let's face it, there were a lot of reborn and HS Anakin reskins that took up a lot of the numbers jkfiles had. BUT you took my sentence out of context. Read the second half of it and you'll see I would agree with you.

If you have been around the Jedi Knight community for very long, no doubt you have heard of and have visited jk3files.com. It was the center of the JK modding scene. JK3Files.com was a "Network Site" of the FileFront community. They hosted many modding related sites, as well as a central forum. Eventually, they were picked up by Break Media, and FileFront became GameFront. Because of the turnover, the creators of the network sites weren't around to maintain them, and the new staff didn't know how or had time to learn how to maintain and repair the sites. Over time this became more of a burden than it was worth, and this week Break Media and GameFront have terminated the network sites. What does this mean? JK3Files.com is gone. According to the GameFront staff, the files that were hosted are still intact in their file archive system, but not for long. Those too will be removed soon, and only the most popular ones will remain, most likely. Bad news for us, because the most popular mods are already hosted here. One of the main missions of JKHub was to create a safe and functional place for those mods to remain, but we could only host them if the creators had given us permission to do so. We are slowly trying again in some cases but many mod authors are nowhere to be found with what little contact info we get in a readme file from 10 years ago. It's sad to see the network sites like JK3Files go, but at least the Wayback Machine has them preserved for us to return to any time we like. You can access that here. You can read the official announcement from the GameFront staff below or at this link. mrwonko has kindly supplied a really nice mirror website for the files from jk3files. Take a look at this link: http://mrwonko.de/jk3files/ Click here to view the article

Figured that was going to happen soon. Unfortunately the only main mirror that exists of jk2files is corrupted. Unless someone else had a local back up of everything that I'm not aware of. If someone is going to back up the files, it'll need to be done ASAP because those files will be deleted soon, from what I understand. Network sites are gone but the files on GF's archive are still there. It's good that we have the majority of JK mods hosted here on JKHub, but there are a lot still needing to be uploaded, if ever. Only reason they aren't is because of the authors' wishes.

Bioware is currently developing a new Star Wars game, aren't they? Could be something similar to KOTOR 3 of sorts.

I'm pretty sure you can still play games offline though. Haven't tested but there is offline mode in Steam.

Nothing from Steam is DRM free.

Its possible that they could update KOTOR 1 again with all the additions they made to KOTOR 2, and then also port to Linux. KOTOR 1 was one of the first games they ported to Mac, along with JK2 and JKA. Also, they only just opened their Linux studio within the past year or so, from what I understand. It's possible they could revisit it. Looks good so far! Loving the native resolution on my Retina MacBook. http://i.imgur.com/qbPOI1H.png

DT is a bit excited I see.
