I know this is a fairly old topic, but I wanted to put this one to rest.

I just went inside the code and the game is in fact not programmed to read the force power level in the if statements at this time.

Even though I didn't know such details, I always felt it would have been nice, if the game could check some global "ifs", so that when Jaden turns to the Dark Side, they have a new skin. Like being corrupted by the Dark Side for example.

  2. The community is probably not that active as before, but in any case – W E L C O M E !

Your story isn't uncommon – I mean, most of the people I know, have that very special game (even though it might not be the first). As for modders – it also happens in such a manner, that you get excited about a game and then think of what you could actually change in it or even make better. That's how it was for with Half-Life many years ago, even though the Internet wasn't an option to check Tutorials back then. It was mere luck to get a copy of a HL level editor WorldCraft, so that's how it all started for me.

But it was JO which sparkled my interest for modding, and 2000s were the classic golden era for new stories, models, mini-mods and the very approach in gaming. I would say, that the modding entered a sort of Renaissance era a while ago, as the original JA got quite a lot from the fans in recent years.

SOTF2 is the game, which I tried much-much later. And it was quite good. As I learnt modding, I took some ideas from this game as well. I think it was Lady Jedi mod, which got me the revelation, that JA and SOTF2 used a lot of common materials, aside from the similar engine. So studying the works of other authors is an good way to get into modding and create something decent. 😉

One of the recent trends in modern games – lack of mods for them for the most part.

  3. I'm soo glad, you're using new props for the decorations. Many people place Sith statues into Jedi Temples and it looks weird. Well, at least for me. Not just the Korriban color doesn't fit the general design, but such objects unavoidable bring in some aggressive and sinister feel to a place, which is supposed to be peaceful and tranquil.

Even though this is about the Knightfall, one of the darkest hours in Jedi Temple history, it's good to see that the architecture and looks are those of the old Jedi Order.

  4. Updated Dantooine. The farmland and spaceport areas are expanded a bit, but are a lot more detailed as well. The gameplay is also slightly changed so that the mission is nothing like 'a very long corridor, you run through'. While on a mission with Luke Skywalker, Kyle encounters a few enemies near the landing area and has to deal with them.

  5. Why mediocre? It's actually very neat! The building might not look as smooth as in the above mentioned anime, but getting that kind of dome, attached to a different form from the other side – might be a bit tricky. I guess, you could use more Bevels, Cylinders and Arches for some parts of the structure.

For example the entrance could use 2 brushes as walls and an archway above. You can use the Thicken option to complete the look.

However, as I said, I like the cubic form of the dome you'd created: it could certainly look that way if the builders used square parts. Not sure about the mountains – is it a recoloured MD3 or is it a Skybox?

  6. Hmm, this one looks like a familiar issue. I'm not sure about NPC models, but I came across this in MD3 models. In 3dsMax I tried selecting all the vertexes and using option Weld (weld Selected 0,1), when the necessary part is turned into an Editable Mesh. I also used Smooth, though it works better if the previous method was used.

But I guess my method might not work in your case, as these seams are part of the dismemberment system where model Caps are also placed, when sliced by a lightsaber.

  7. It is indeed not for children. Well, at least not for kids as I remember them from some time ago 😄

    For reasons such as these:

    Spoiler

There is brutal violence here, than before. The very first scene leads us to a very first kill of actually 2 guys – blasted by the protagonist himself! We also see a reasonable amount of blood, constantly in there with badly bruised Andor.

    Also this:

    Spoiler

Not just the violence, but the language itself is different. While bantha fodder or schutta aren't here, we can clearly hear 'shit' or 'Pre-Mor bastards' move than once. The characters seem more natural this way, perhaps. Certain themes in their relations are more adult in nature, like Bix, who is the girlfriend of one of the characters with whom she spends the night (yes, we can now see that trousers is a common thing in Star Wars, as socks or other things). Even though not shown in the series, one clear sees the intimacy in one such scene.

The image of the characters and some kind of dirtiness in their looks doesn't add to the kids nature of the show either.

    Aside from this

    Spoiler

This show is dealing with more adult themes than usual, such as conspiracy, guerilla wars, politics and diplomacy, which aren't about action per se, but they make a way for philosophy, social and moral themes.

  8. Experimenting with NPCs in the maps, I always felt it's too bad, that once the enemies spot you, they would most likely keep you as the main enemy even if provoked by other NPCs. I would definitely prefer the enemies to run and explore the area more often, and not just via scripts or additional commands.

When the enemies spot you, 99% they won't stop looking for you. Too bad, it would be nice to trick them like escaping and hiding in a shadow place – like in Deux Ex of 2000. In fact NPCs in JA won't see you if it's too dark unless you use your weapons.

It also seems unfair, that whenever we pull away their weapons, stormtroopers would never try to attack us again unless they find a blaster somewhere. Using fists here is a reasonable option, it seems, like it was done in MOTS. on the other hand, who would try such attacks against a guy with a Lightsaber?

  9. I must say, that after seeing Mandalorian, I didn't hope to see anything really good (as I dislike Mandalorian). The Book of Boba Fett didn't deliver anything either, while Kenobi held me by the screen for a number of reasons. Yet it also had a few doubtful things, which I don't like at all.

So I read a bit about Andor, whether it would follow the path of its predecessors and I must say – I'm glad it's nothing like what we've seen before. I watched 5 episodes, which I could rate in different way. Yet for now I would say that Andor is probably the best we get since the end of The Clone Wars Season 6.

    What I like here:

    Spoiler

is that Andor doesn't look like Star Wars too much and that works just fine. It doesn't seem it pretends to be something it is not, in fact presenting a more unique experience. There is no Force or Jedi (as of yet) here, so all attention goes to other characters. Cassian Andor is slowly shown as a growing character, but so are the stories of others, like Luthen Rael, Dedra Meero, Syril Karn and Mon Mothma. Fan Service is in there, but is reasonable and doesn't distract us from the story.

I really like the idea, that the show is about different people in different parts of the Galaxy. Not interconnected just yet.

This is a formula I like and the one followed by such series like Game of Thrones for example.

So far we get 5 episodes, quite different in pace. Overall the show is enjoyable at least for me:

    Spoiler

The first three episodes prepare the ground for further action, they might even seem like something too slow. Yet the episodes are beautiful and we get the action there in the end. I would say they are more about Cassian's childhood, his family and some background. Wwe also see Luthen Rael (his new ally) and Maarva Andor (his adoptive mother). Both play well into the story. The new planets also look good and more vivid than Tatooine or whatever in other live-action shows.

The 4th episode is my favourite so far, showing a lot more of movement, introducing Dedra, working for the Empire on Coruscant, a small Rebel cell on Aldhani and Mon Mothma's activity. Episode 5 is slow again and prepares us for the most interesting part of the plot, I believe: the mission of Andor and the Coruscant party.

  10. I can't remember, but perhaps the very first 3d software I tried was perhaps MilkShape 3D – a minor program, which could be used for free for 1 month back in 2000s. This had a variety of plugins to create and incorporate models to such games like Half-Life or Sims. I used it to make primitive models or rather convert existing ones to be used in Jedi Outcast.

Much later I would try GMax and 3dsMax, but more like a technical tool. In 2011 or so I tried DAZ Hexagon, which I use up to this date, but in most cases if not all I combine this with UV Layout (to create UVs obviously), Photoshop and Illustrator (to make textures) and 3dsMax for final polishing and to export the model as a prop or a character model.

I also tried zBrush, Blender and currently studying Maya. But as I said, they aren't currently my favourites.

Several of the models for my projects got textures, which I made in Substance Painter.

  11. The first half of the series seemed good to me. I really enjoyed the references and the new planet Dayio, which reminds several locations from classic EU Star Wars. Too bad this theme wasn't explored any further. I'm still puzzled why all the planets in new SW look like a grey dirty desert, why nothing exotic like crystal trees or cities made of organic matter...

I don't like the new inquisitors in the stories, but here Reva was truly good. I do like her character.

    Spoiler

Although I believe she should have died in the end.

While it was interesting to see the whole path of Kenobi, some things looked unbelievable or even stupid.

    Spoiler

The duel between Obi and Vader somehow didn't work for me. Not sure, but I do believe that there Black and White in their struggle – Mustafar and Death Star I fighting, there is nothing in between... Well, that how it worked for me. When I watched A New Hope, I always enjoyed the idea, that before 2005 we all were just like those stormtroopers and Imperial officers with no idea of Vader's background, and after 2005 we were like the true witness to what transpired in a barren, lava-filled darkness – nothing like the embodiment  of galactic-scale battle station where Vader and Kenobi meet for the last time.

The duels themselves could have been much-much better – on a factory with coolant reactors or freezing gas of some sort. The fire fight in an industrial canyon looked too far-fetched, even more unrealistic was the second encounter among the dark rocks. How convenient, that there is a whole misty planet for Jedi and Sith to battle each other.

Indira Varma is a brilliant actress, I absolutely love her Ellaria Sand in GOT. She is also quite good in Carnival Row.

    Spoiler

But here I hoped she would be a much more interesting character. I guess it was reasonable to make her one of the good guys, but as a villain she looked so much more menacing!

  12. This reminds me of one map, I've been looking for for ages now. It was a Naboo courtyard, perhaps a MP map for dueling. There were two areas, where the players start with archways of some sort. The map was quite detailed even though it used Radiant brushes only. It had new skybox, if I remember correct. But all textures were certainly a creation of the author himself – brick walls, roof, floor and plants.

I once saw it on jk3files, I believe, but never ever since. I still have some textures from that map somewhere around, but unfortunately that's all.

  13. You can check Quake 3 skyboxes in net, there are many with very different visuals. You can simply replace the Yavin IV original sky textures with new ones via adding a pk3 into you hame base. If you want a Yavin IV with a red moon variant, I do remember one map for JK had a Yaving IV at night sky. Also you could try searching other Star Wars games for these, but I got a feeling, that Battlefront 2004 used a different scheme for a sky (the Red moon is a separate texture for example).

It's worth testing this NPC on various Difficulty levels too. As far as I know – various aspects of different enemies vary depending on the difficulty. On Hard mode it might be an almost impossible challenge, if some NPC specifics aren't reasonably set.

  15. The Phantom Menace video game had spectators siting in the Arena. There were several NPCs, which could talk and move, but the majority was a low-poly 3d public, even though some of them had heads animated. I think in you case it could also work, because the duelists aren't supposed to enter the seats area.

So you could place amore accurate version of people in the first row, a less accurate )low-poly 3d) people in the back, and 2d PNG/TGA people (with animation or not) in the farthest row. That's what I'm currently thinking over for a level I'm working on.

I think Sith J Cull did something with animated skyboxes in his Padme's appartment map. He had an animation layer in the skybox in which it looked like there were cars flying in the distance. You may wanna look at that perhaps.

I'm not sure, but might assume he used skyportals – you make a brush line of speeders + shader, and thus it's animated. You place all the miniatures like speeders and other things into a separate room with a sky and the above mentioned entity. Skyportal then projects the whole thing into the skies in your map.

  17. I think someone actually extracted and updated the Ubese from KOTOR II, however they aren't called Ubese or anything like that in PK3 packs, which I saw. I do believe, they are simply called Sith Assassins (while true Sith Assassins look differently and actually can be spotted in this video too).

  18. Adding spectators would be cool. The ones from original KOTOR are pretty low-quality, but it's possible to use others, like creating png/tga from the existing Player models + shader.

There was this old (not very known) game of Timeline (based on the novel with the same name by Michael Crichton), which had public sitting at the knight tournament, with people animated (several shots). It's possible to do the same in JA 🙂

  19. You can expand the city by adding the cityline into the sky itself. I could think of three methods:

    – City picture of the skybox itself
    – Skyportal entity + 2d city texture placed there
    – Skyportal entity + 3d city miniatures

In the latter two you can even add flying cars, FX, some holographic ads and much more!

This reminded me of Corellia in Rogue Squadron 3D, one of my favourite games.
