The Last Jedi ( maybe spoiler)

Recommended Posts

I would say, that of all people I watched the new episode with, I was perhaps the only one to enjoy the film in one way or another. There were very strong sides, which I enjoyed, and those include the designs, some effects, both CGI and animatronics, as well as plot moves and ideas. I would also add, that certain characters showed their potential at last, unlike in The Force Awakens. Some people say, that the new guys in the film were absolutely unnecessary, but I wouldn't agree here, because, well, we could say the same about Mon Mothma for instance, but she became iconic, even though she has only a few lines in one episode.

There were bad ones too, and a lot! What I like about TLJ - is that it's not a copy of EPISODE V. And for that I want to thank Rian Johnson and his team.

If being a bit more detailed, I will hide the spoiler-sensitive ideas below :)

What I liked in The Last Jedi

-Some dialogues reveal characters a bit better, including Leia and others

+Leia was much more active and interesting in this one

-We've got new vehicles and space battles

-New worlds like Cantonica aka Canto Bight was a good sight in the film (and freaky aliens and small dwarfs)

-There were several quite good cameos and nods to Star Wars in general

-More of the First Order - I mean designs and concepts were quite good

-Phasma at last makes some action

-We've got more of Snoke (but not enough)

-Most of the scenes with Luke teachings really good and in some ways surpass Dagobah learning

-If not for several drawbacks, the film is more than fine and interesting/unexpected

-It's Star Wars with a completely different atmosphere (so this can be either plus or disadvantage)

I did not like this:

-JOKES - there were just too many. Everyone makes a joke, which is often out of place, because, well, they are goin to die in an instance, and they still laugh?!

(the "funniest" one surely Poe Dameron, which makes jokes and taunts of Hux in the very first scene, others as well (jokes or silly acts), be it Leia, Luke, Finn, Rey, C-3PO, FO officers regarding Kylo, even SNOKE!!!

-While we do get philosophy from Luke Skywalker, certain aspects of his Jedi exile on Ach-To aren't interesting or captivating at all, like milking an alien like

Homunculus loxodontus for green milk, and his demeaner in some situations

-Luke again: I don't feel I understand motivation of both Luke and Kylo for their hostility and failure

-The Dark Side Cave scene looks great, but lacks something, which is present in Dagobah visions

-The music if you listen to it outside the film, isn't that cool like in OT or the prequels,

-Rey and Snoke don't get a most necessary backup story, as we expected, especially Snoke

-Yoda wasn't that convincing, and I mean his Force Ghost appearance, especially when we see him for the 1st time

-Leia's scene was already labeled as Poppins scene

-There might be just too many porgs, which occupy the Falcon too, making their home between pipes and electronics

I feel puzzled by:

-So... Rey's parents were just drunkees and now they lie as bones somewhere on Jakky?

-So who is Snoke after all?

-Where are the Knights of Ren?

-What happened to other Jedi?

I have now viewed The Last Jedi... I think I know now; without a shadow of doubt, why the new sequel trilogy has been so divisive in the Star Wars community (well at least my apprehension towards it anyway). I have previously posted these comments:

"These sequels aren't sequels. The sequel trilogy is a soft-reboot of the original trilogy with slight variations of the original trilogies plot. I could forgive them for a reboot but what I cannot stand is the fact that they have included these movies as follow on episodes!!"

"It seems they/people still haven't learned their/this lesson from the prequel trilogy; trying to appeal to a wider audience by catering too much to them e.g kiddie stuff mixed with slaughtering kiddies. Net more of an audience if they continue-on the saga, instead of start anew... At least George Lucas told a new story."

"The sequel trilogy is the original trilogy 2.0... How come people can't/won't see this?"

If this new trilogy were a straight up reboot, I shit you not - balls to the wall. No shit. Told everyone from the start, that they were going to reboot Star Wars...

THEN IT IS ABSOLUTELY, GODDAMN, SHITHOT. Its everything we loved about the originals but better, expanded and improved upon. The best way that I can describe it would be to, look at what we are doing at JKHub to these games... How we are enriching them with modding, making them better.

But sadly...

They called it Episode VII and then Episode VIII. The confusion is set. How come its the same story as the original trilogy pops up. Why has Snoke not got an origin story of his own? But is just a carbon copy of The Emperor; word for word but expanded. There are many more, but hopefully you get the gist of it.

What I am saying and what I'm upset about is, either make a sequel, with a logical progression to the story that has came before or be a reboot, but not both in the same movie. It seems from the movies we've seen so far is, that they've used each original trilogy episode as a template, stuck to the story but heavily improved upon mingling scenes from all three original films - which is very nice, as a reboot though, not as a sequel. You can't have your cake and eat it, sorry.

The arch of Luke to me, like I said before, is just a heavily improved upon retelling of what Yoda could of been in the original trilogy. A jedi in exile, the last of his kind. Instead of dying a failed recluse, is delivered hope in the form of a new promising student of the force, decides to make a final stand. Its a wonderful, imaginative retelling of the original trilogy... but that is, WHAT IT IS... A retelling.

This is what I think has been the divisive factor. It should of been told as a reboot, not a sequel.

P.s. Oh, where did I say it was a shit movie???

I would like this movie if:

1. Snoke's identity was revealed and had better death than that

2. Luke hasnt died after force projection. His character deserved final movie after he was missed in TFA

3. Rey was trained more than 5 mins. They could have done training similar to Dagobah's

4. Knights of Ren appeared or were just Snokes guards and were killed

5. No boring Casino, childish Disney scenes with animals etc....

6. Not superman scene, Leia or Ackbar could have died in that hyperspace suicide jump...no point of having another random female admiral there

7. To be more shocking, Finn could have destroyed that canon and fight could have been longer

8. Shorten movie to 2 hours only

I wish that it would happen but It will never happen. It has never happened and will never happen. This film cost to much. Petition to have some bullshit where Luke gets magicked back to life maybe that might happen if you get a few million people to demand it. Rian Johnson should definitely not be allowed to go near another Star Wars film.
Just ignore this film. Just choose what you consider canon. You will always have the eu and George Lucas Star Wars.

I already wrote about what I didn't like in another topic. Here's what I did like:

1) Snoke's death: I didn't like the fact that he died - being such an alleged badass and all, but the way he died was still cool.

2) The fight scene in Snoke's throne room - it felt somehow amateurish, but I still enjoyed it, maybe it's exactly why I enjoyed it, I don't know. Was also glad to finally see the Imperial Royal Guards in action.

3) The scene where Rey and shirtless Kylo get connected through the Force - that was funny :D

4) When the Resistance's flagship hyperjumps through Snoke's flagship - that was epic!

5) The planet Crait (though I expected it to be spelled as Krayt) and the showdown, but I think some things should have been done differently.

Sadly, that's all.

I've waited for thirty years to see Skywalker in its full potential......and what? Force Illusion???

Snoke? Such a powerfull Force user......DEAD??? Just like that?

Rest In Peace Star Wars.

Also guys what do you think of the recent theory that Mark didn't even know the fate of Luke? People use the premiere video where Mark looks sad, shocked and betrayed as evidence? I'm not quite certain but thinking about it makes me sad xd Poor Mark.

Oh man it's completely true. Totally devastating. Check these out, some are funny, but that panel in London is very telling of where certain members of the cast stand:

Enjoy (with grief), and may the force be with you my friend.

I'll just say that this movie made the Prequels watchable to those who criticized them the most.

I had such high hopes for this movie... but the story plot was so weak-- it's like the writers didn't come up with a story until the night before their assignment was due-- and they just did a half-ass job at that. This one is the worst of all SW movies. Very disappointing indeed. Even when Rey gets sucked into the Darkside Anus-- it was so anti-climatic. Rian Johnson and the script writers suck.

My only hope is that the start of Episode 9 has Luke coming out of a "Force Meditation" where he is trying to see the future (i.e. Ep. 8)... and Rey is there and he says-- difficult to see the future is... and thus ep. 8 is just a bad memory of what might have been... and they go on to do a better movie.

Prequels were watchable. Only annoying thing for me was the fact that "technology" in prequels looks better than in original trilogy. :D

Such an excitement in TFA to find Luke Skywalker, a "hero of the republic".......just to find out that he is an old as*hole!

F***in' JJ and R.J.

Makes more sense than this piece of c**p!

Anybody say REBELS?

Hell, Hera and Zeb are two outstanding characters, way better than all of them in TLJ.

I'm genuinely surprised by all the hate. It was a really enjoyable experience for me, even if it's not the top of the list as far as the films go. I saw it as a clear passing of the torch without feeling too heavy handed about it. I loved that Luke showed power like we haven't seen before. I love that Leia gets the force nod we all knew was there, even if the execution of it wasn't perfect. A lot of the things I've seen questioned across the internet have had precedent in other films.

But with all that being said I'm more disappointed that people didn't enjoy themselves. It's like they went into a different film than I did, or walked into the theater already offended by things they heard on the internet.
