Psyk0Sith Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Dunno what it was actually called but Maul Trooper is the code name for now. New Empire Storm Trooper (thanks to @ for the info.) Session 1 - Blocking phase done, tweaks and detailing to come. Based on this concept DarthDementous, minilogoguy18, Kualan and 9 others like this
swegmaster Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 It's been a while since a WIP was seen from you, looks like the wait was worth it! General Howard likes this
Jolly Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 This is pretty bad ass. Would be a cool replacement for JO/JA stormies considering their designs didn't change within 10 years in the slightest apparently. If theres one thing I could suggest for this model is that the visors are a bit off. Otherwise quality work from a quality modeler. LucyTheAlien likes this
DarthDementous Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 @@Psyk0Sith nice man, glad to see you take inspiration from one of the requests in the forums. you work fast and with quality, I don't see any major areas that are off in your mesh compared to the concept.
Teancum Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 It's been a while since a WIP was seen from you, looks like the wait was worth it!He's been working on Gorc for the Dark Forces II project for some time.

You are correct it's because i worked with the other concept that varies slightly and has additional detailed bits... https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/004/453/990/large/thomas-a-szakolczay-stormtrooper-f.jpg?1483908562 Jolly likes this
Newmodder Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Wow that is one sweet mesh. On another note, am i the only one that gets the idea it might have been based on this? http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/e/ed/Alt-armor.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20070913122017

Psyk0Sith Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 Take part how? i'm using his concept, he's done his part. Please don't, paid professionals don't have time to waste. Jeff, swegmaster, Kualan and 3 others like this

You wanted to know the name of the trooper. By taking part, I meant in the sense of offering some background on the character. But I'll make sure not to help in the future, don't worry about it.
Psyk0Sith Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 We have a different understanding of "taking part" you made it sound as if he would be involved. Which sounded kind of odd.

Well maybe I didn't word it quite right. So, the character is called: New Empire Storm Trooper And here is another image that MAY help. swegmaster, Tompa9, Shenghai and 2 others like this
Shenghai Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 I kind of like that Shoretrooper-esque variant. Reminds me more of a cross between the regular stormtrooper and the shoretrooper. JAWSFreelao and General Howard like this

Tompa9 Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 What New Empire is that? Is it first version of Stormtroopers or is it from time after destroying of second Deathstar?
Daedra Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 What New Empire is that? Is it first version of Stormtroopers or is it from time after destroying of second Deathstar? The game was supposed to be set after the events of The Phantom Menace, during the time of Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith.
Kualan Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 The 'New Empire' refers to the Legacy-era, as part of the game was going to take place there. Maul would end up in the Legacy-era somehow (probably carbon frozen or something) and meet up with Darth Talon.
Jolly Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 " Lucas stood up right in the middle of their pitch, walked over to a nearby table displaying a model of Darth Maul and another of Darth Talon, put them next to one another and said “they’re friends“. Nervous Red Fly executives, who’d explicitly been told not to correct Lucas about anything to do with Star Wars prior to the meeting, raised their hand and asked Lucas how this would work, considering they lived a century apart. Lucas, without missing a beat, shot back “make him a clone” of Darth Maul or something." DarthDementous likes this
Daedra Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Yup, got all the refs from the game already, that's usually the first step. Direct quote from Thomas: There was never an official name for this design. The Brief i received from LucasArts said it was to be the next generation of Storm Trooper - a progression of the original design. Internally we called it the Neo Trooper. So this game was loosely drawing off the 2014 Darkhorse comic where Maul wages war against all to rule the Galaxy. Also he really likes the work done so far on this model, he thinks it's awesome. Though the name of this trooper is the New Empire Storm Trooper on his Artstation page. Psyk0Sith likes this

LucyTheAlien Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Love it, this would making an incredible replacement for the Stormtrooper- or even just the higher ranked ones or Saboteur.
AshuraDX Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Are the creases Floaters? I'd love to take a look at your mesh topology. Or is this Zbrush and not doen in 3ds max at all?
Psyk0Sith Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 Floaters indeed, it wouldn't benefit me at all to create a pure subd model, all i care about is how good it will stick once baked. Even a subd model will require floaters at some point, some of the small details you won't be able to cut unless you collapse to super dense geometry, here's an example of how i built a "pure subd" mesh with finer details floated on top: https://jkhub.org/images/jbpqkqu.jpg https://jkhub.org/images/EyWqORE.jpg
