First Person Lightsaber Mod Request
Cerez replied to MrHeisenberg's topic in Mod Requests & Suggestions
Awesome! In that case I'll just make sure to package the MP EXE as well with the mod. Let me know how you're finding it working, @@MrHeisenberg, and @. If it's reliable/stable, and easy to use, I may finally (officially) release it here, on JKHub. -
I agree with @@Asgarath83 that SJC should be asked for permission first before embarking on this project, however there may be a way to accomplish this without having to edit the source, simply with script work. That being said, scripting a mission in JKA is tedious any way you look at it. But I like this idea very much. You're actually tempting me to step back into JKA modding. What would be my compensation for my time spent on developing this? Hit me with a PM. I may be interested if it feeds me while working. You've certainly captured my creative interest.

Afraid you'll have to find another crazy chump. j/k Just hit me up on email if you need feedback/advice/help.

@@Raz0r Does openjk_sp.x86.exe use uix86.dll, or cgamex86.dll at any point? Or are these MP specific? -

Darn. Use my executable, then, @@MrHeisenberg. This one matches the version of the libraries used in the mod. The good news is, you have the PK3 in the right place because the game *is* trying to load it. What happens with the SP EXE, @@Raz0r? Will that need to match the same version API/libraries as well? I would have thought that the newer binary executables are backwards compatible with the older libraries... -
First Person Lightsaber Mod Request
Cerez replied to MrHeisenberg's topic in Mod Requests & Suggestions
@@MrHeisenberg, @ One of my unreleased projects: https://jkhub.org/topic/6151-multiplayer-views/ Note that this is an OpenJK (open source Jedi Academy), not a retail game mod. You'll need OpenJK installed for Windows, then put this file into your "~/Documents/My Games/OpenJK/base" folder. Open Notepad in Windows, and copy and paste the following commands into it: bind "'" "seta cg_fov 80 ; seta cg_thirdpersonalpha 0 ; seta cg_thirdpersonrange 0.1 ; seta cg_thirdpersonvertoffset 0 ; seta cg_thirdpersontargetdamp 1 ; seta cg_thirdpersoncameradamp 1 ; echo True View" bind "," "seta cg_thirdpersonrange 40 ; seta cg_thirdpersonvertoffset 0 ; seta cg_fov 80 ; seta cg_thirdpersoncameradamp 0.9 ; seta cg_thirdpersontargetdamp 0.9 ; seta cg_drawcrosshair 0 ; seta cg_thirdpersonalpha 1 ; echo Action View" bind "." "reset cg_thirdpersonrange ; reset cg_thirdpersonvertoffset ; reset cg_fov ; reset cg_thirdpersoncameradamp ; reset cg_thirdpersontargetdamp ; reset cg_drawcrosshair ; reset cg_thirdpersonalpha ; echo Default View" bind "/" "cg_thirdpersoncameradamp 0.0 ; echo Camera View" Save it as "views.cfg", and put it into your game's base folder. Finally, run the OpenJK MP game (i.e. "openjk.x86.exe"), and in the console type "exec views" to bind these view switch commands to their corresponding keys. (Ideally, you only need to do this once.) Enjoy. Troubleshooting: If you get a write error when switching views, try placing the "openjk.pk3" into your game's main base folder instead, or into the "GameData/OpenJK" folder (replacing the original file). -
Well, this *is* a Star Wars forum, but I get your drift. I'm still commonly reachable on my Sketchfab account, and my email address. And it's fine to leave me a PM here, too, just don't expect a fast response... I always find that moderation is the key with any of these topics. Most people choose to go from one extreme to the other, when the truth is in the middle. Yes, action movies have been dominated by male protagonists so far, and we need to have more authentic female leads in movies. No, women are not men, just as men are not women, but we all deserve an equal opportunity. People of a different gender, and in fact, every person of a different body is different. Humanity's worst characteristic is that we love to categorise. Women's rights, as seen by men, have been a topic longer debated than freedom of expression. It's not a new phenomenon. What's new is an extremist shift as of late of portraying female heroes in media. We've gone from 10% female protagonists to 70% female protagonists in movies, and rising -- when there really needs to be around 50%. Rudolf Steiner once said this, and I couldn't agree with him more: "The social position of women is for the most part such an unworthy one because in so many respects it is determined not as it should be by the particular characteristics of the individual woman, but by the general picture one has of woman's natural tasks and needs. A man's activity in life is governed by his individual capacities and inclinations, whereas a woman's is supposed to be determined solely by the mere fact that she is a woman. She is supposed to be a slave to what is generic, to womanhood in general. As long as men continue to debate whether a woman is suited to this or that profession 'according to her natural disposition', the so-called woman's question cannot advance beyond its most elementary stage. What a woman, within her natural limitations, wants to become had better be left to the woman herself to decide. If it is true that women are suited only to that profession which is theirs at present, then they will hardly have it in them to attain any other. But they must be allowed to decide for themselves what is in accordance with their nature. To all who fear an upheaval of our social structure through accepting women as individuals and not as females, we must reply that a social structure in which the status of one half of humanity is unworthy of a human being is itself in great need of improvement." It's not so much that creativity is dying, it's more that people are putting less effort into it. Making movies, making video games is easy now. Advancing computers and technology had a lot to do with that. Orson Welles once said, quite accurately: "The absence of limitations is the enemy of art." The easier it is to accomplish something, the more trivial the creation, and the creator's attitude towards it. There is always hope, and there are those who choose put effort into what they're doing, and walk an independent path. You're entirely welcome. I hope Disney won't stereotype and butcher her personal image with Rebels, and will remain respectful to her character, and what she personally stands for. It's worth discussing this, but keep it respectful to each other, people. Don't go throwing around insults and calling each other names. We're a little more advanced than that. If you disagree, do it with honour, and respect for anyone who opposes your views, and makes an effort to reason their viewpoint.
-
Calm down, guys. Everyone's entitled to a point of view, and we don't all have to agree on a point. There's absolutely no need to lash out at each other. And I don't mind if the role of women in Star Wars is discussed here, @@mrwonko -- so there's no need to worry. @@Darth Sion hasn't said anything sexist or offensive, he's simply stated his point of view on the use of the dominating, strong female lead actress in this movie. It's new, so it's fine to think about it and discuss it as a topic. I do think that Rey will continue to be the main protagonist of this new movie series, @@Darth Sion. One of the main creative objectives of this reboot seems to be to give Star Wars a female lead for a change. That doesn't mean that men won't be able to enjoy it as much, it just means that instead of a young male lead (Luke Skywalker), now we have a young female one (Rey Skywalker -- spoiler: I'm pretty sure she's Luke's daughter XD). In many ways Rey has already shown courage on the level of Luke's endeavours. And she's certainly not the girly-girl, so there's no need to worry about gender stereotypes impacting the action-packed story experience.

Not likely. Disney's Star Wars has left me pretty scarred now as to fandoms, Eez...
-
This is a growing trend today, and while I personally find it innovative (when not over-used), that's pretty much the only thing I find truly original in the new Star Wars movie. A lot of it is thanks to Kathleen's spot-on casting and strong performance. You are so right here that it's frightening. It's becoming truly Big Brother (in the classic, Orwellian sense). Except instead of one tyrant, we have a dozen. The fans do not get the respect we deserve, and the objects of our affection and passion are twisted by these corporations in order to control our habits, spending, and like. Disney is certainly up there with EA, maybe even topping the chart. Thanks for the good wishes, guys, and I'll really miss you, too, @@DT85, and kitty (), but as I said, I'll try to drop in from time to time for a visit.

To create something just to have something on top of something else that was great, doesn't justify having it. In other words, if you create something rubbish to cover up a quality work of art, how is that any better than not having created anything in the first place, and leaving the classic be the classic it is? Money spent does not equal production value. The value of a production is pitted against its creative vision. And to say that we needed the space for new stories is the same as to say "out with the old, in with the new". This is highly destructive to the long-standing tradition Star Wars has built over the years. While "tradition is tending the flame, not worshipping the ashes" (Gustav Mahler), we'd be fools to throw out all the classic stories and values Star Wars has built up over the years in order to replace them with something completely new. We might as well burn books and start a new inquisition, then. We'd be on the same mental level. These are my two cents. As for the points you've raised, @@therfiles, with respect to your person, I'm not sure that they are proof of originalities, or proof of the scarcity of original content in the new movie. If we were to take these points and compare them to the original trilogy films, or even to the prequels, I think you'd find that TFA lacks much original content and themes in comparison to both, probably in that order: OT > Prequels > TFA. But thank you for sharing your thoughts on the movie's original content with me. It has helped me to see a few things regarding the new production(s), and understand some of your perspective.

Hey guys, well... this is my "official" resignation from not just the JKHub community, but the greater Star Wars online community at large as well. I am no longer able and willing to follow the latest trends in Star Wars, and I've grown a strong dislike (to put it mildly) for Disney's new direction and changes of the Star Wars we've known and have grown to love. It wasn't enough that Lucas had to go and mess up the magic of our original trilogy (and the amazing work of his younger days), but now a foreign entity, a greedy corporation that's grown incredibly arrogant and selfish has decided to take control of the things we love, and revamp everything (with a solely for-profit focus) -- and with it force a change in our community as well, where it should really have no reach. I see Disney as a merciless tyrant, bent of tweaking and manipulating our world to please its selfish financial goals. Some of you may not see this yet, and what I'm talking about may sound incredulous to you, or even crazy, or highly exaggerated, but I'm confident that ultimately it will show with time. It always does. I feel it only fair to share my perspective with you in the hope of opening a few more eyes in alertness to the changes ahead, whether now, or sometime in the near-future, to avoid being cheated, spending a lot (of time, spirit, and money), and suffering a great disenchantment/disappointment. As a seasoned Star Wars fan, I've seen enough to know that this new direction is unfortunately not headed on a fulfilling path, and who knows, a decade from now maybe no-one will remember Star Wars, or they will not remember it as it was, the high quality stories and themes that charmed us when the original trilogy came out. If this new, deliberately destructive direction continues, the outstanding qualities of classic Star Wars will fade into obscurity. This is my current perspective. Either way, what I've come to realise is that I've grown old, and it's time for me to retire. I find no inspiration in the new Disney-driven content, and for this reason I've been gradually falling out with this community as well. I haven't created anything new in Star Wars for a long-long time now. I feel that pretty much all that's worth creating has already been created -- with only a few exceptions to spare, most from the more recent Clone Wars TV series, for which, too -- with Rebels pushing in aggressively -- interest has waned now. I'm not a fan of any of this brand new content. And with it being targeted for a much younger audience, it's no surprise I don't find it the least bit inspiring. So it's time for me to admit and accept that I've had my run with Star Wars, have the memories to prove it, and it's time to move on to other things. I've thoroughly enjoyed spending time with you guys, and each one of you will stay with me for life. If you've known me well, you know who you are. This has been one creative community I will never forget. I have no words to describe how fond I am of you all, and proud to have known you, learned from you, and shared with you in our creations and our experiences together. Rest assured that you'll all be thoroughly missed, and if I could, I would give you all a big hug right now. It's been great -- I've known no greater community than this one -- and I've known plenty. So please fare well, keep doing what you're doing, be kind and considerate to each other, and I promise I'll check in every once in a while, just to see how you're all doing, and still help out where I can. But as an active member, and an active and dedicated (new) Star Wars fan, I am saying my goodbyes. *waves* Be good, and don't tear the place apart. *walks away into the sunset* *explodes*

But there's nothing there to last, @... :/ It looks and feels fancy because it's new, but it contains no qualities to make it last, other than what it stole from the original trilogy. And if you put the two in direct comparison after 2 years' time, you'll see the Disney reboot can't even compare... And when they said that the new movie would not contain any dodgy CGI, they lied. It does, and it looks dodgy. It won't last 3 years, I guarantee it... Edit: It's all a big money scam, and I'm beginning to see it now fully for what it is. Even if they didn't have story, at least the prequel movies had original content in them. This movie doesn't even have that. Just makeovers...
-
It's not about whether it is made for profit. It's about whether it is made for profit as a focus of the project. KOTOR was made for quality, and so was the original trilogy. They tried to innovate, and deliver an original, authentic experience. They were made for the story, with profit on the side. The new movie is made entirely for profit, with an original story somewhere in the back corner, far-far away, where it's hardly visible... that little spec, yeah... Please do. Because apart from a few altered outcomes, I see absolutely no originality here. This movie is a modern reboot of the original Star Wars film, but on a much lower production level.

What's the main reason for updating? If a user is truly interested, they will download a newer version of the binaries. Why should users be forced to update? If the current version works well and to their needs, what's the point? (Please don't do what the MBII project has done, keeping things always on the cutting edge, and forcing all users to update. That's awfully useless and annoying. It's the reason I deleted MBII from my computer -- it was a time and bandwidth hog.) I agree with an optional updater for convenience, to be run/used by choice. But a nagger, automatic downloader, or forced updater I think is a horrible idea.
-
...yet... What's next, Disney? The original Star Wars trilogy never happened? Oh wait... it happened, but the way Disney wants it! (Which is to say, it happened only as far as it still sells. If it doesn't sell in millions anymore, let's change it -- let's just reboot it, and make the older story non-canon. >.<') Honestly, I'm entirely sick of it... As @@minilogoguy18 has said, I'm keeping my own little Star Wars universe. Screw Disney, screw their new stories, and screw their new canon. They will never produce anything on the level of quality these past works have been made on anyway -- because their focus is on profit, not storytelling. When the original team sat down to create Knights of the Old Republic, they focused on creating an authentic Star Wars experience. When the original film crew (and cast) got together to make the first film, they focused on the innovative story, the experience, bringing it to life authentically. When Disney scrapped 80% of the existing Star Wars stories by creating their own "canon", they had one thing in mind: profit. And I'm sorry, but the new movie shows that, too. I hate it. Not because it's a bad movie -- which it may or may not be to your interpretation -- but because it was made entirely for profit, and brings literally nothing to the table as a quality, new Star Wars experience. They haven't even tried, just took the old formula, slapped on a new sticker on it, and sold it as a new drink. They'll never create something as good as the original trilogy or KOTOR -- they have no idea how to. They'll never even try, because the extra effort doesn't come with extra profit. It's easier to resell something repackaged than make it last. And so Star Wars will slowly go down the toilet... But not our Star Wars. We'll always have KOTOR, and the original trilogy, and anything else we fancy. Screw Disney. It just breaks my heart to see the overall world of Star Wars get so fragmented and damaged like this... and the fan-base, too...
-
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightsaber_shoto Knights of the Old Republic is now Legends??! Seriously, screw you Disney!!! By their account, from now on only kiddie films will be considered canon. Only what Disney can sell to little children: that's Star Wars canon.

I've just tried Homebrew for the first time. To a Linux user it wasn't very daunting, but I can tell you straight away that a regular Mac user (who is not used to using the command-line, but is used to high-end visual interfaces instead) would get stuck at the first step. Installing mencoder using Homebrew posed a few challenges for me, too. It wasn't exactly a straight-forward, single step process. I had to figure out how Homebrew works, first. That being said, I don't contest to it being a fantastic and easy to use tool for Mac software administration/development. Let me know, guys, when changes are done, and I'll be happy to update the install documentation. We should probably start with the installers/bundles, and then move on to updaters and mod managers later. The primary focus should be to make the installation process as straight-forward and simple to use as possible. On a Mac, ideally that's a simple drag-and-drop bundle. On Windows, it's a simple install wizard. For Linux, a single command in the Terminal to install (with interactive options)? Edit: Although, if it's not too much trouble to maintain, I would always keep a manual install of the files an option -- for those who prefer to be in full control and set it up themselves, as opposed to relying on an installer to do the job for them. Personally, I hate it how MBII is now all installer and launcher interface based, and I have no access to individually controlling the process and/or mods/packages. I'm sure I'm not alone in that...
-
A bit further down the line for me, but that's a very interesting SDK! And these normal edit options are impressive to say the least. Thanks for sharing.
-
Guys, come on! Homebrew is easy for devs, not for regular users. A regular Mac user wouldn't know where to start with something Terminal-based such as that. They'd panic and freak out, then scream and run down the hallway flailing their arms, and as far away from their computers as they can possibly get. Doesn't the regular SDL2 installer work just as well -- from their site? I seem to remember using it, and I had no problems.

Jedi Knight: The Clone Wars Extension Pack
Cerez replied to Cerez's topic in WIPs, Teasers & Releases
I ran into a big booboo with the development of The Clone Wars Missions. I still haven't canned it, but I need to find a better way of setting NPC movement than the default waypointing system of JKA that we have at the moment -- because, frankly, it's incredibly primitive, tedious, and a disaster to work with. Either that, or simply design levels with stationary NPCs... :/ This project is different. It's simply a curated package of community made Clone Wars era models and maps for JKA Multiplayer. -
Oh, definitely. It was what scared me off and gave me a bad impression of Blender at first, actually. And it's the first thing I changed once I've decided to start learning it. It's as far from intuitive as it can possibly get when starting out.

I've just updated/completed the installation instructions documentation for OpenJK in the Wiki: https://github.com/JACoders/OpenJK/wiki/Installing-OpenJK Can't believe we've been missing it for so long... Anyhow, I've covered all three computer platforms in detail. Let me know if anything's off. This should help new users set up a build for use from the rolling weekly builds repo.
