  1. No expensive software needed, JA character models and animations can be done with free software.

This is why a detailed, yet simple step by step tutorial is needed.

First up will be an Ithorian Jedi, Gran could be done quickly if i reuse the one from the game.

It would be perfect if all alien heads from the game were included. And even the human heads as well. That hasn't even been done yet. At least not completed. I know someone on the Void was working on adding human heads to a robed model but it never got finished.
  2. Oh there was alot of crap I did, all on The Void (if it even exists anymore). Nothing that good tbh.

Qui-gon is left as-is, but I may consider picking it up again once I get my PC & desk over here by tuesday next week seeing as I had to move out of my unit due to a patellar dislocation. :\

Oh yeah. Duh. I remember you from the Void now. :D

That would be awesome if you would! You had to move out because of an injury?

As far as the Void and frankensteining goes, I found and old thread when Toshi posted the link to the source files for his Anakin/Vader model on ModDB. Should come in handy, no?

  3. I'm probably the best person to talk about this as when I first started out all I did was frankenstein models. I learnt to get models ingame before I could model.

Now while it's always better to learn how to make things yourself, frankenstein models aren't exactly shunned unless you:

    - try to pass the finished product off as your own work

    - do not give credit to the authors of the original models you used

What kind of models did you make? You have nothing submitted on here. By the way, you had a WIP Qui-Gon didn't you? Any progress on that at all?
  4. Hapslash gave his blessing to anyone who'd like to use his work, as long as proper credits are given, which Shiftee did.

I might do some new species myself using his work, simply because it's faster to re-use something that already looks and works great.

That would be awesome, I know a lot of people would appreciate that sort of thing. It would definitely add to JA and make it feel more complete.

It would be nice if a tutorial was made for frankensteining that explained everything in extremely basic terms for us who have never modeled and included links to free software to use to achieve it.

  5. I've looked into Frankensteining in the past, but I just don't have the time (or indeed, the expensive-looking software) to devote to learning how to make good quality JA-level models at the moment. I might look at it again in the future, when RL is a little more settled. If only it was as simple a cut-and-paste as the name 'Frankenstein' suggests :P

I don't know what sort of stuff I might look to produce if I ever do get around to it (and I make no promises in that regard anyway!), but I imagine it will be fairly simple, headswap stuff to begin with. A few alien variations for the Jedi robes, etc, that sort of thing.

I know exactly what you mean.

It's so strange to me that more alien variations with robes haven't been made before.

  6. I absolutely love SP. The ability to tell a story and make your own missions is just so awesome. Making your own campaigns, cutscenes, events, SP just has that structure that MP doesn't. But both gamemodes are awesome in their own respect. Are SP NPCs dumb? Yes. Then mod them to be smarter. With SP, problems can be overcome easily to make an amazing map or mission.

Co-op would be AMAZING. Combined with the structure of SP and the intelligence and teamwork MP has, it would be so fun.

I really wish scripting and making levels and campaigns was easier. I would definitely do it. I've tried to learn but haven't got the hang of it yet.

Yeah I agree, it's actually really fun to replay those good old campaigns with a bunch of friends. The same goes for a lot of other (but of course not all) games, but JK2/JKA seems quite suitable for coop in general due to the way that the gameplay works; except that one would have to balance the maps a bit and make them more interesting for more than one player, i.e. add more enemies, slightly changed maps to accomodate more players and so on - akin to something that we have in svencoop for hl1 for example.

Yeah, definitely. More enemies for sure. Right now there's not hardly enough for one player.
  7. Yeah. For me, there are a lot of Star Wars character variations that I want to have like a Pilot and Stormtrooper version of Toshi's Luke, or different Padme variations. Things like that. One I really want is the head from the only Qui-Gon model and put on the body of the HS Anakin/Obi-Wan or Toshi's Anakin body. Because the body of the Qui-Gon model is horrid.

  8. I'm not a modeler and don't plan on becoming one at any point. But I was wondering, is frankensteining models considered an okay thing to do? The reason I ask is because there are a lot of models that have yet to be made that could be done by just taking the head of one model and putting on another. I don't know if that's an easy task for a modeler or not, but it seems it would be rather than starting from scratch, right?

  9. He never released them at all. Not even to the Void, which I was a part of back in the day. They disappeared along with him. It's a shame too, they were amazing starts. I wish he would release what he started so others could finish them. I'm sure dozens of people have contacted him to release them to us but no luck apparently. We could always try again I suppose.

  10. Downloaded from that, still won't appear in the selection menu on OJP and still feetless. :(

Did you delete the other one?

I don't know how OJP works so I don't really have anything for you there. Do you have to put it into the OJP folder for it to work?

  11. Okay so the version on JKHub is version 1.0. Apparently he made a version 3.0 and only released it to jk2files.com for some strange reason. The issue is easily fixed however. I'm not sure the other changes from 1.0 to 3.0.

So if you go here you can download 3.0.

I will report this to the staff here and see if we can get that version to replace the one we have.

  12. Thanks spior. Ya, making fun of Ragnos was fun. I wish i could have posted them as tag, but the pics didn't show up.

If JKA would work on this computer, I would get online and show this build off, I should have taken more pictures of the city, there is also enterable buildings.

It didn't work because dropbox thought it'd be terribly clever to have a shiny page for each picture.

Draw each picture in a new tab and copy the URL in an tag.

    Like so

EDIT: Ah fuck I guess it really doesn't work. Oh well.

I have no business being in this thread but to answer your Dropbox image woes:

To make it work with an tag you have to change the link from www to dl

    So it looks like this:

    [img=https://dl.dropbox.com/s/wwm5w898rlelj6c/shot0016.jpg]

    And works like this:
