Is there no way to convince Raven to release the original .map files (if they still exist)? I mean, this game is 12 years old. What's the worst thing that can happen when they do that?
-
Yep... it's ******* horrible

Well those are two completely different approaches. Either do something like Movie Duels/KOTF/Movie Battles or extend the Jedi Academy SP campaign. I think both are interesting ideas. These three mods I've mentioned (Movie Duels, KOTF and Movie Battles) are probably the most well known mods outside of the actual Jedi Knight community. All three mods were featured in game magazines, blogs etc and all of them are about playing missions based on the SW movies. So when it comes to attract more people from outside of this community, doing a mod like that would be more useful I guess. Being honest... the idea behind KOTF is simple but not bad. Playing scenes from the movies IS fun if done right (see Movie Duels or Movie Battles) so copying some ideas from KOTF should be valid as long as we don't use any actual material and as long as we try not to get associated with that mod. When it comes to MP... I agree that there are a lot of (good) multiplayer mods already. However, what I have in mind is more like a mod for beginners with tutorials, new ui and stuff like that. Something that maybe even works with other server-side mods.

I played MBII for 8 years (since b16) so I obviously know how the MBII saber system works. Maybe it does look more realistic but the gameplay is much less realistic then the base saber system.
-
Sandbox MP mode with proper sabering system with base sabering system. I could agree with that. He probably meant OJP. Not sure how the MBII or OJP system is supposed to be more "realistic" though.

Since most people play MP I actually think it should be a MP mod with new gamemodes, maps, ingame-tutorials, new interface etc... Stuff to make playing easier and to help new players to get into the game (like Quake Live did). But I also like what JKE does so... this "big community mod" could be a complete overhaul of Jedi Academy including SP and MP? The point of all this should be to get more people to play and mod JKA.

In relation to this topic: http://jkhub.org/topic/6157-revival-of-jkas-modding-community/ Personally I'd really like to see something like this happening. Quite a few people in this topic liked the idea of a big community mod but a project like this is only realistic if many people contribute.. What would you like to see in a mod like that? What do you think would benefit the JK community most?

I don't really see the problem here. No one (in this thread) claimed that Defrag in Jedi Academy is better than anything else. Obviously we had our problems with some of the ups guys but all these guys are doing is playing custom maps on a mod server. There are many mods and many maps in this game, no reason to get angry about.

There were a couple of backhand saber mods on jk3files but I don't know how they did it

I've made a short test clip to test the camera and capturing features. And also to test it on youtube. Videos are still darker on youtube and I'll need to activate anti-aliasing. I'll probably make a longish fragmovie later this year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJkE0CTcMbE

Thanks for the explanation. I'm aware that playing with that value can cause bad results but as long as I don't increase it too much (100 is okay, 200 is not) it works and that's what matters for me. But I understand that you wouldn't want to release it like that.
-
Did this on my own now by simply increasing the value of demo.play.time. Not sure if this breaks something in the long term but it works for me

I can read, I'm not talking about jumping to certain events. I'm talking about increasing the speed of the find command. And no one said a word about wolfcam.
-
This new command is awesome but it would be great if it was possible to give the find command a speed parameter like /find airkill 50 or if you could use the speed command even if you used the find command (if you do that atm it only fast-forwards the sound)

There was an ingame menu for all the Jedi Academy music files on jk3files
-
Farewell, I think you both did a good job
-
I agree with Circa but maybe she just needs to be a little taller
-
Not sure how MBII made their ingame updater but isn't it possible in base to download mods when joining a server without having to restart the game? But I still understand where you're coming from. You'd probably have to combine the JKA ui system with something like sql or php or whatnot while it'd be way easier to do it in a seperate tool.

What's about having an ingame-downloader and updater for mods?
-
Well that escalated quickly. I think the problem is that this article is shorter than what we had before and at the same time they don't come really frequently. I wouldn't mind an article like that if they came more frequently while having some bigger stories in between. But like this it looks kinda misplaced compared to what we had before.

I think there were some polearms in this Ladder melee mod
-
Star Wars with big battles? Battlefront Star Wars with story? KotoR Star Wars with force powers? TFU The only really unique feature in Jedi Academy is the saber system and that's (imo) the only reason why someone would pick Jedi Knight over the games I mentioned above.

This game got a lot of features and it's not easy to learn, even if you are not into competitive play. You got guns, force, unique melee combat, special attacks, several kind of jumps, several game modes (even without mods). I think what this game needs is something like id Software did with Quake Live: Preserving the original gameplay but making it easier for newbs. Means having an actual ingame tutorial, maybe even an ingame wiki etc. Quake Live also got a new feature now that allows you to do basic strafe jumps just by holding down the jump button. It's way slower than actual strafe jumping but at least you can keep up until you learn the real thing. Someone suggested a simplified version of the game as a new gamemode. I know it's unrealistic but I wish it was possible to gather all players and modders and create something big that saves this game in the long term. I mean, there are dozens of mods with really small playerbases (there are even still people playing 1.0) and a lot of people who work on their own little mods. But what is the point if the community doesn't exist anymore in a couple years? I'd much rather work on something big for the community instead of finishing one of my mods that will be downloaded like 50 times if I'm lucky.
