Capture The Flag Competitive scene?
afi replied to cydonis's topic in Jedi Knight General Discussions
The competitive scene was at least 20 times the size in 2008 when you compare the amount of people who played in the ladders and cups. Jedi Academy in the ESL is pretty much dead right now, back then there were 400 people in the 1on1 ladder, now there are 27. Even in 2008 it wasn't the same anymore compared to what it was in 2004-2006. There is no way there will ever be a CTF ladder on the ESL again, actually it's a miracle that the whole section isn't closed yet. -

There used to be a CTF ladder on the ESL but it wasn't active at all. And that was like 8 years ago... -

The ESL section existed since the release of this game and Dureal invented the poke already in 2004 or even 2003 when trying to find a way on how to beat staffers who were topping the ladders back then. There was a big disussion whether the ESL should ban poke or not and they decided to do not. You're still not getting the point though. You can obviously prevent people from using poke/wiggle but 1) it breaks the original game mechanics, 2) it lowers the skill ceiling and 3) most people actually like to use the poke (as history shows). You're free to use this command on your server though, no one prevents you from doing so. -

Yes but you can play MP without other players and without bots -

And what do you do in sp what you can't do in mp? -

Why does it have to be in SP anyway? -

Yes that's the definition of a high skill ceiling. The more features you remove, the lower the skill ceiling. And it's about doing it constantly (and not on JA+). Obviously everyone has the capability to learn this skill but you have to invest time to be good in it and not everyone is equally good at it. You only perfected it if you don't need more than one hit to kill anyone, no matter what. And how many players are really that good? You can be decent at this game without knowing anything about poke (p!ng is an example for someone who doesn't use poke while still being a good player) and the game would work without it but it adds depth and that's the point. Quake would also work without strafe- and rocket jumps but how boring would it be compared to what it is. -

If you're into coding it shouldn't be too hard to implement that into singleplayer as well... Or you could try and replace the 3d model of an object that you can deploy in SP (like those mini-turrets) with the weapon you want to drop -

There isn't. I'm not sure if any of the big mods allow it, you could try mine though: http://jkhub.org/files/file/1937-promode-alpha/ . Only multplayer though. Edit: Too late. -
Eitani's Top 5 Personal Complaints of JA
afi replied to eiTani's topic in Jedi Knight General Discussions
It takes a lot of skill... mrl managed to do over 300 dmg with one hit while most people were lucky to get over 100. In the end strafe- and rocket-jumps (especially in Quake) are also "unfixed bugs" but it's a part of the game. Also it's questionable if poke/wiggle is really a bug or not just a valid use of the game mechanics. Because it's for sure wanted that you can 1) move the saber with your mouse and 2) do as long damage as the saber is moving. And that's really what it is. -

The combat is the only reason why this game is good, the other points don't concern me. Poke exists since 2004 so complaining about that in 2015 is pretty obsolete. -
Well I managed to see no spoilers at all before seeing the movie.
-
It originally contained spoilers that were known before the movie was released, like behind the scenes pictures etc. Now it contains pretty much the whole story of the movie. You're right, people are already warned but I think as long as the movie is as new as it is today it's good to use the spoiler tag until the bigger part of mankind has seen it.

Yeah I also wondered which

A lot of spoilers incoming: Also please don't let this topic become a debate on principles about the EU. It's supposed to be about Episode VII

What exactly would you do to achieve that
-
Not really... You forgot feinting and mouse dragging. You can influence the movement almost like in JK, the only real difference is that the weapon deals damage only once. Feinting and mouse dragging are the reason why you need super fast reflexes in that game, way more than in JK sabering actually. When you play Chivalry the way you've mentioned it you get rekt in seconds. Jedi Academy still got the better combat system (and probably also the higher skill ceiling) though.

I can't believe I missed this thread until now

Wouldn't it be possible to do it the same way wall runs are done?
