On September 16, 2003, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy was released to the world and spun off what was loved and adored about its predecessor Jedi Outcast, and taken to the next level in terms of combat, gameplay, and modding capabilities. Two decades later, we are still here, playing and modding this game. Most of us are well into our adult years and only try to find the time to put into this game in some way, but we're here. Some people have left, come back, left again, repeat. Some have left completely, but everyone that has spent time with this game can agree that it is a unique and special experience that deserves celebration and appreciation.
    Mod Contest
Over here at JKHub we started the celebration with a new theme, followed by the Anniversary Mod Contest. The goal with this contest was just to let people create content related the Jedi Knight series in general. We had a bunch of amazing mods submitted to the contest. Huge shoutout to @SomaZ @Noodle @WizardMKBK @Kitsu-NeshKaa @Omega1 @Chansta @Joshua for submitting their mods, each one was unique and incredibly crafted. SomaZ took the votes in the poll with his Bespin Duel Reborn mod with rend2 support, which the community voted on, but all entries were awesome. Well done.

    Server Event
Over the weekend, on the 16th, @Makha lead a big Jedi Academy server event that I and a few others helped with. The goal was to just bring people together on a server or two throughout the day, host a TFFA or CTF or other games, but overall just have people FFA and chill. It was a resounding success, we ended up having over 150 people show up throughout the day with the main server fill 32 slots at many times, with some overflow to a second server at some points. There was a TFFA and CTF match on a second server, as well as all guns brawl with NPCs, lots of FFA and private dueling. It was a blast (and exhausting by the end), and we hope everyone that attended had as much fun as we did. There were two group photos taken when the server was full, on FFA3 and FFA4. If you weren't there for these, I'm sorry!

Thank you to all that showed up, even if just for a little bit. The point was to play this amazing game and share a bit of time with fellow fans, no matter how long or little you did so. And an even bigger thank you to all who helped make the whole day happen and run smoothly.
I made a short video below recapping the event (the whole 10 hour stream can be watched here), naming as many people as Makha had written down that attended, thanking attendees and the developers behind making this wonderful game. All the appreciation in the world to them, as we all know making games is not easy, especially with deadlines, and though this game may not be perfect in their eyes, it succeeded in the long term in various ways and I think I can speak for the whole community in saying thank you for what you made, with both Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy.

Link's love letter to Jedi Academy
Not technically JKHub, but he's part of the ex-staff family, @Link also made his own video diving deep into what he loves about Jedi Academy and how it changed his life in various ways. He really hits the nostalgia spot on with this video, I highly recommend giving it a watch if you haven't yet.

Though that's all we have for the anniversary right now, the year is not over, and more may be coming. Until or if that happens, thank you again for everyone that has been with this community, not just Jedi Academy, but JKHub. Our 11 year anniversary was in August, which is just as mindblowing to think it has been that long since this place launched. I know Caelum isn't around anymore but I'm sure a part of him would be proud of what he started and hopefully how it has continued since he left. You all are awesome, and here's to another 20 years! 🍻

Today Nightdive Studios in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games officially announced they are remastering the original game from 1995 that began Kyle Katarn's journey, Dark Forces. No strangers to remastering classic 90's shooter games, Nightdive has System Shock and Quake II under their belt showing they know what they're doing when it comes to modernizing these games, while keeping their identity and charm in tact.
This is a remaster, rather than a remake, using original assets and code where possible while implementing modern controls, upscaling textures and sprites, 4k resolution, and widescreen support. Nightdive prides themselves on what they call their "KEX Engine" for these projects.
Dark Forces Remastered will be released on PC, Xbox One & Series X|S, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Nintendo Switch. According what Nightdive's Larry Kuperman told IGN, the game will be competitively priced around the $20-$30 USD range and a release date is expected for 2024. An official release date will be announced later this year.
The first question many people will ask, especially in this community, is how likely are we to see the rest of the series get remastered, especially Dark Forces II, and the answer is: very unlikely. The sequel uses a completely different engine which may mean Nightdive's KEX engine wouldn't support it easily, etc. It is not impossible, but I don't think one remaster automatically confirms the whole series will get touched, especially since Outcast and Academy got console releases so recently.
The game is looking great, and I'm looking forward to playing it again, as someone who has tried to play the original many times but gets frustrated with the controls, this remaster is a much welcome release and is another example of Lucasfilm not completely letting their legacy content completely be forgotten.
Star Wars: Dark Forces has a release date: February 28, 2024. That’s for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch.
UPDATE: The game is out and can be purchased on Steam, Xbox Store, PlayStation Store, or Nintendo eShop.

It’s no secret that older games are increasingly harder to get into, especially as support for them on modern systems continues to dwindle down and the more steps you have to take to get them to work properly continues to rise. Then, once you get the game running, you are taken aback by the graphics after being used to playing the latest AAA games and immediately go hunting for mods to enhance the graphics and experience to help you enjoy your time. Or maybe you literally have no idea how to play the game, but enjoy it enough to learn more about getting better. Well, here is some basic info to hopefully make all of that easier when it comes to Jedi Academy.
This game is turning 20 years old this year, and it is still one of the greatest Star Wars games of all time with an active modding and player community. I took some time making a video and written guide on all of the basics of getting started with Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy in 2023. Keep in mind this is geared towards new or returning players, so it is meant to be as simple as possible. Watch the video below or read the written guide at the bottom below that.

    New JK-inspired themes
It's already July! The 20th anniversary of Jedi Academy is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than with a new theme! Actually, there are 3 new themes to choose from: Academy, Academy (Stone), and Outcast. These are inspired by the cover arts of both games while keeping the function of the site the same. You can pick which one you like best or go back to the old theme, the theme picker is in the very bottom of the page. The Academy one has two separate options: default and stone. I took the stone texture from the original cover art and made it the background, but I honestly wasn't a fan of it but I figured there are people that may like it so I made it an option. I think the Outcast one may be my favorite.

    Anniversay Mod Contest
Keeping the anniversary train going, I figured an anniversary mod contest was in order! Now, this contest's theme is quite broad to many here but hopefully that doesn't stop people from making some cool stuff. The theme is the Jedi Knight series. It doesn't have to be strictly Jedi Academy focused, but any game from the series (Dark Forces, DFII, Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Outcast, or Academy). This can be related to the story, characters, weapons, vehicles, planets, etc. As long as it adheres to our file submission rules and relates to the JK series, you can submit.
    Rules:
All submissions must be Jedi Knight series themed (Dark Forces, Dark Forces II, Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy) You can only enter your own creations. You may enter more than one mod. Already existing files cannot be submitted. The goal is to encourage new creations! This includes updates or fixes for existing mods. Any mod content is welcome, including skins, models, maps, weapons, menu mods, etc. Just make sure it abides by the rules. Mods can be for Jedi Academy and/or Jedi Outcast. We will assume mods are for JKA unless specified otherwise. The deadline for submitting content is September 9, 2023, after which a poll will be opened. The poll will be closed by the end of day September 16, 2023. How do I submit my mod?

Our goal is to make it as simple as possible for everyone involved.

Over the last year, I've been working on building a podcast talking about gaming, movies, tv, etc. It has been a slow process getting a backlog started, while also planning ahead for super cool stuff. Though the podcast and YouTube channel isn't Jedi Academy-specific, since this game is such a big part of my life I can't help but talk about it when I can, especially during it's 20th anniversary year.
This episode I had the privilege of having @Link join me as a guest, and we basically just talk about Jedi Academy, our first memories, jk3files, JKHub, running clans, and how it effected their lives in general. It was a lot of fun, and we'd really appreciate you talking a look.

Our goal is to make it as simple as possible for everyone involved. The way you submit your file for this contest is to upload them as normal files in our file section, but using the category called Contest Entries. After the contest is over, we will move the mods to their respective categories.

Click the button below, and submit your mod as you normally would. The category should be set to Contest Entries already. If you don't enter it there, your file won't be entered until you do. If you realize that you didn't do that, PM a staff member and we can change it for you. Good luck and happy festive season!

    Anniversary Server Event
Some people in the community are putting together a day-long event on a Jedi Academy server to get people on a server to play and hang  out and celebrate the game the best way: by playing it. Multiple games and events may take place throughout the day depending on turnout. It will be open door policy, so come and go as you please. Thanks to Makha and friends for getting it organized and planned!

    20th Anniversary page
We are tracking all of the content and events going on for the 20th anniversary over at jka.gg/20. Many of them are still developing, so keep in mind the page will change as new things happen. You'll notice some thing we've already shared, and some we haven't yet, like the JKHub server.
    20th Anniversary of Jedi Academy
That's all for now. I'm still working on getting another developer interview done, but I can't confirm that yet until it happens. If anyone has any ideas for more we can do for the anniversary, or has already done something we can put on the page, or wants to help with the server with events or admin, please let me know!
