minilogoguy18 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Like the title says, would like to see if anyone would take the time to convert the .ROQ format cinematics to something like 16:9 aspect ratio as well as any other popular widescreen formats. A widescreen hud would be nice too but not really necessary, mainly want this because for JK2:JO I like to play the SP campaign. Circa likes this
Tempust85 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 ROQ: Problem is, JKA only supports a certain height & width (512x512 I think). Would be better I think if there were 'black bars' added via code to the sides when playing ROQ's in 16:9. Tbh, someone should give OpenJK proper widescreen support.
eezstreet Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 It's not as easy as you think. The screen width and height are fixed at 640x480, so literally the game perceives everything as being in 4:3 resolution. Would require lots of fixes but it's doable at least in theory. Tempust85 likes this
minilogoguy18 Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 So someone couldn't just re-render them with black bars on the sides and make them 16:9 that way?
Tempust85 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Yeah that can be done, and you could prolly squish the HUD images this way ">>>>| |<<<<" as well.
Circa Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I still want to know how the new Mac version can have widescreen support. (Not cutscenes, but everything else)
minilogoguy18 Posted November 30, 2013 Author Posted November 30, 2013 That's super easy, 3d can easily be rendered in widescreen, all it takes is some modification of the configuration file, from there though you can't touch the resolution settings in the menu. I'm sure a coder could explain what it would take for widescreen to be doable from the menu settings.
Tempust85 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Maybe we could do a copy paste of the menu files from the Mac version?
Circa Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I can give you whatever you need if you'd like to take a look. I was curious to see if @@redsaurus would know if there were many code differences in that manner in the Mac version or not.
minilogoguy18 Posted November 30, 2013 Author Posted November 30, 2013 Well if you google Jedi Academy widescreen you get the info needed to run widescreen, I'm sure from there it's just a matter of editing the menu files to allow the 16:9 resolutions to be selectable from the menu, the main thing that doesn't work is the cinematics. Oddly enough though when I played through JK2 recently the cinematics worked in that game, they were a little stretched but they worked.
Circa Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Yeah but the Mac version doesn't have stretching issues. No cutscene issues, no HUD issues. Similar thread with my screenshot of a cinematic.
hleV Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Maybe we could do a copy paste of the menu files from the Mac version? We should try this. Can anyone share the required Mac files?
eezstreet Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 You don't even need coding to make widescreen available from the menu. Take a look at how MB2 does it..

The HUD .menu file(s) and all the HUD textures (incase they are resized) please.
Circa Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 The HUD .menu file(s) and all the HUD textures (incase they are resized) please. Alright, take a look. I didn't get everything but this will help you be more specific if you need anything else. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6qt6qghlyrxmhto/bHXDITNOv7
Tempust85 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 @@Circa Nothing looks different at all, can you please upload the other .menu files?
Circa Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 @@DT85 I just uploaded the whole folder out of laziness. Same link.
Tempust85 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I got no clue as to what's different in the Mac version. :\
Circa Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Yeah, I think it's a code difference. But I'm still not sure.
redsaurus Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 There's some code stuff going on (but they get rid of r_mode -1 too :| ) Circa likes this
Langerd Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I think the best idea is this An orginal models from the game but with rly good looking.
