Today Nightdive Studios in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games officially announced they are remastering the original game from 1995 that began Kyle Katarn's journey, Dark Forces. No strangers to remastering classic 90's shooter games, Nightdive has System Shock and Quake II under their belt showing they know what they're doing when it comes to modernizing these games, while keeping their identity and charm in tact.
This is a remaster, rather than a remake, using original assets and code where possible while implementing modern controls, upscaling textures and sprites, 4k resolution, and widescreen support. Nightdive prides themselves on what they call their "KEX Engine" for these projects.
Dark Forces Remastered will be released on PC, Xbox One & Series X|S, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Nintendo Switch. According what Nightdive's Larry Kuperman told IGN, the game will be competitively priced around the $20-$30 USD range and a release date is expected for 2024. An official release date will be announced later this year.
The first question many people will ask, especially in this community, is how likely are we to see the rest of the series get remastered, especially Dark Forces II, and the answer is: very unlikely. The sequel uses a completely different engine which may mean Nightdive's KEX engine wouldn't support it easily, etc. It is not impossible, but I don't think one remaster automatically confirms the whole series will get touched, especially since Outcast and Academy got console releases so recently.
The game is looking great, and I'm looking forward to playing it again, as someone who has tried to play the original many times but gets frustrated with the controls, this remaster is a much welcome release and is another example of Lucasfilm not completely letting their legacy content completely be forgotten.
Star Wars: Dark Forces has a release date: February 28, 2024. That’s for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch.
UPDATE: The game is out and can be purchased on Steam, Xbox Store, PlayStation Store, or Nintendo eShop.

Bingo! We have a winner! 😄
That was it, the glm needed modification, just like mrwonko said. Thank you everyone for the help! Now we all know the solution to this issue.
Circa it's the MOD which I've modified for my personal use. As far as I know the mod has no new updates by the author and the galak_mech and similar files aren't included, cuz he said you need the original JO game to get those files (buy the game).

    OTHER ADDITIONS
In addition to packaging up characters, we also have new things coming to Galactic Legacy! Below are a few of those things:
    - All versions of Starkiller and Ahsoka Tano will be given some very long-awaited backhand animations created by Katanamaru.
    - Characters with a saber-switching AI (Inquisitors and Cal Kestis) will now reflect the same saber color they were assigned if their assigned color wasn't their default
    And finally....
    - CONTROLLER SUPPORT!
Yes, we have finally added in Controller support! Please keep in mind that this will only be applied for ingame so all controls will need to be manually mapped.
    CONCLUSIONS
We're getting very close to our release and we can't wait to bring it out. So sorry this has taken so long!
Thank you for following the development of Star Wars: Galactic Legacy, and may the Force be with you.

    New JK-inspired themes
It's already July! The 20th anniversary of Jedi Academy is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than with a new theme! Actually, there are 3 new themes to choose from: Academy, Academy (Stone), and Outcast. These are inspired by the cover arts of both games while keeping the function of the site the same. You can pick which one you like best or go back to the old theme, the theme picker is in the very bottom of the page. The Academy one has two separate options: default and stone. I took the stone texture from the original cover art and made it the background, but I honestly wasn't a fan of it but I figured there are people that may like it so I made it an option. I think the Outcast one may be my favorite.

    Anniversay Mod Contest
Keeping the anniversary train going, I figured an anniversary mod contest was in order! Now, this contest's theme is quite broad to many here but hopefully that doesn't stop people from making some cool stuff. The theme is the Jedi Knight series. It doesn't have to be strictly Jedi Academy focused, but any game from the series (Dark Forces, DFII, Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Outcast, or Academy). This can be related to the story, characters, weapons, vehicles, planets, etc. As long as it adheres to our file submission rules and relates to the JK series, you can submit.
    Rules:
All submissions must be Jedi Knight series themed (Dark Forces, Dark Forces II, Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy) You can only enter your own creations. You may enter more than one mod. Already existing files cannot be submitted. The goal is to encourage new creations! This includes updates or fixes for existing mods. Any mod content is welcome, including skins, models, maps, weapons, menu mods, etc. Just make sure it abides by the rules. Mods can be for Jedi Academy and/or Jedi Outcast. We will assume mods are for JKA unless specified otherwise. The deadline for submitting content is September 9, 2023, after which a poll will be opened. The poll will be closed by the end of day September 16, 2023. How do I submit my mod?
Our goal is to make it as simple as possible for everyone involved. The way you submit your file for this contest is to upload them as normal files in our file section, but using the category called Contest Entries. After the contest is over, we will move the mods to their respective categories.

Click the button below, and submit your mod as you normally would. The category should be set to Contest Entries already. If you don't enter it there, your file won't be entered until you do. If you realize that you didn't do that, PM a staff member and we can change it for you. Good luck and happy festive season!
    Submit to Anniversary Mod Contest
EDIT: VOTE FOR THE SUBMISSIONS HERE

    Anniversary Server Event
Some people in the community are putting together a day-long event on a Jedi Academy server to get people on a server to play and hang  out and celebrate the game the best way: by playing it. Multiple games and events may take place throughout the day depending on turnout. It will be open door policy, so come and go as you please. Thanks to Makha and friends for getting it organized and planned!

    20th Anniversary page
We are tracking all of the content and events going on for the 20th anniversary over at jka.gg/20. Many of them are still developing, so keep in mind the page will change as new things happen. You'll notice some thing we've already shared, and some we haven't yet, like the JKHub server.
    20th Anniversary of Jedi Academy
That's all for now. I'm still working on getting another developer interview done, but I can't confirm that yet until it happens. If anyone has any ideas for more we can do for the anniversary, or has already done something we can put on the page, or wants to help with the server with events or admin, please let me know!

I saw he was cast but I believe the only rumor of him being Revan is simply because of the fan casting, not based on any insider info.
If he really is cast as Revan, I assume it would be a flashback since this story takes place only a few decades before The Phantom Menace. His role has been described as a cameo, so this would make the most sense, and would be a smart way of teasing a movie or series about him separate from this show.
  11. Circa liked a post in a topic by Lancelot in The Acolyte - Disney+ series
I must also admit that I take the rumours with large grains of salt. After all, he's very selective about his choices. He would rather turn down a multi-million dollar role just to appear in a cameo role in an independent film. Nevertheless, it was great to see how excited everyone got.
  12. Circa liked a post in a topic by Linken in Gamorrean uses jedi taunt with vibro-axe
    @RobiWanKen0bi
I checked the source code and long story short, the animation, BOTH_GESTURE1, is hardcoded for npcs using a single saber. If they're using dual sabers, a staff, or CLASS_ALORA, then the animation is different.

    Basically the highlighted code reads:
"If the npc is taunting, then do something. If the NPC is on the NPC class CLASS_ALORA, play her special taunting animation. If using dual lightsabers, play that animation. If using a staff OR using the staff stance, then play that taunt animation. Otherwise, play BOTH_GESTURE1 if that animation exists in my humanoid file."
Looks like there was another instance where the npc would play an idle animation, but that was commented out so it'll never happen. I suppose in cases where an NPC is using a single lightsaber but doesn't have the BOTH_GESTURE1 animation.
For the player, there is some variation allowed as you may know with the "taunt" command.

This one basically reads if not using a saber, do the BOTH_ENGAGETAUNT animation (the animation that plays when you challenge a player to a duel in multiplayer). If using a saber, check if the .sab file has a tauntAnim then play that. Otherwise, depending on what saber style the player is using, play a different animation. So Fast/Tavion both get the twirling the saber with the force. All other single blade stances get BOTH_ENGAGETAUNT. Then dual and staff all get their own too.
So long story short, if you want the Gamorrean to not use the force while taunting, you'll need to set the saber to be a saber staff, change the idle animation to whatever you want and that should work.

Hi! Thank you for your kind words.
The textures are based off the original ones from KOTOR, however we thought it would be best to create our own, so they were replaced with very similar ones, designed from scratch. Some objects are new as well.
We released Chapter I of the mod earlier, and we've never been against using our materials in other projects, so Chapter II wouldn't be an exception here. We plan to finish our work with this pack soon and thus all the materials (including textures, as well as new Dantooine models – lights, decorations, etc.) would be available too.

  16. Omega1 liked a post in a topic by Circa in Require help figuring out why character customization mod is not showing on menu
Looks like you don't have icons for the torso or lower skin files. You need at least 1 of each of those. Your head icons also don't match the head skin files. Make sure you have at least head_a1.skin, torso_a1.skin, and lower_a1.skin, along with the icons that match them but with icon_ as a prefix.
What the above comment says isn't necessary to simply make it show up in the menu, but using the JEDI_ prefix is best practice because the game is hardcoded to look for those first in various scenarios, and is the only way to get team colors working in MP in addition to the SP menu, but again, not necessary for the bare minimum. Same goes for the Hoth variants, though it'll be bugged when you get to that mission if you don't.
Here's a tutorial for you to run through if you need it:

I like the way you can actually choose various kinds of response during a dialog cutscene. Also hiding from your enemies is a nice addition – haven't seen that in Star Wars for quite a while. Well, in the latest Battlefront II SP campaign this was an option, but not the primary one.

  20. Circa liked a post in a topic by EvasionStudios in School of War: Tron Legacy Edition
Greetings Programs!  It's been a while since we had an update.  Things were slow during the month of May and June, but we're getting back on track.  Most all the areas of the map have been built and put together in Blender.  The next phase of the project was a texturing phase, to ensure every model and surface had an appropriate texture.  We also got help to ensure that the transparent background images were all setup as the correct file extension so that all the images will work within Radiant and in game.  We're still working on the textures at this point, having a few more rooms to take care of, and then we can begin exporting.  We were also to get some great help from the community in setting up a path where importing all the models could be done at once, instead of having to manually import each individual model.  So here's some more visual reference in Blender with all the textures in place.
    I. Lightcycle Grid
First we have the Lightcycle Grid.  This has been tested in game, to ensure that the ramps and jump are correct, and the size of the race track around the perimeter is usable for racing.  There are two levels on the main floor, allowing for a great freedom of movement on swoops.  After we have the map completed, we may be working on custom Tron inspired vehicles, based on the models we were able to get.

    II. Disc Wars Arena
This section you're seeing here was an addition we decided on, to create a larger platform based area to duel on.  The four pods above this area are for the one-on-one duels, but this is for more of a free for all setting.  A lot of it is glass, and the rest of it is textured as metal walls with light accents.

    III. Command Ship
Sitting in it's club-box seating is the command ship.  This will be present in a few areas of the map, and features the throne room for watching the sports, and the command portion behind a hexagonal door.  This ship will serve to control functions of both the disc arena and the lightcycle arena respectively.

    IV. Exit Portal
At the end of the map, the journey to this location will be the one way exit back to the arcade.  This is one of the first areas we built, and it was done by hand.  It is a fairly accurate representation of the portal in the movie.  Also, the original portal was meant to close up and open into this shape, which actually looks like the laser that portals people into the grid in the first place.  Our doesn't have that movement function, as that would be a little too much, and unnecessary.

    V. Oasis
We've done a lot more texturing and adjustments to this area, but it still has some work to be done.  The bookshelf has a number of real books intermingled among the nondescript ones.  Each book will have a usable function to show you snippets of text from those books.  The School of War has always had a library and we certainly are including another one in this map as well.

    VI. Outlands
Originally we had done the outlands by pulling models into Radiant and building it within that program.  However, we found out that in order to get the right kind of shading to work with proper reflections enough to match the scenery of the movie, we needed to actually rebuild it from scratch in Blender.  This is one of the larger areas of the map, and includes both a secluded cave, as well as the path towards a door which leads into the Oasis' underground garage.

    VII. End of Line Club
Perched high atop the main spire in Tron City sits the End of Line club.  A party area with a bar, upper deck seating, an elevator, and two doors that we decided to open up to the outside.  The balcony hosts a nice area for taking in the scenery and perhaps some duels as well.  Not to mention we have Daft Punk in all their glory hosting the music scene at this particular nightlife haven.

    VII. Dojo
A brand new addition to the map not found in the movie, is our School of War dojo.  We were able to "Tron-ify" it appropriately, and it will be used for a place to train and spar as we currently have in our main map.  Feel free to try and translate the Kanji and figure out their meanings.  🙂

Once we have finished doing all the textures, we will then start to collaborate more with checking on the shader needs to get all of the textures and transparencies into Radiant for building the actual map.  We expect that to happen within the next month, and we're looking forward to doing a lot of testing with these areas to see how they can perform.  As previously mentioned, if you are interested in doing some beta testing with us, and have an interest in being involved in solving the issues that will undoubtedly arise, feel free to message me on the forum here and I'll give you access to the Discord where we solve those issues.

In regards to "The Wayward Star", I hope "personal ship map" doesn't mean you won't be releasing it 😛 .
Wood in a spaceship is a nice surprise. And I especially like the conference room.

These maps are so good. "Mediocre" is definitely inaccurate for this thread title! You should be proud. Can't wait to see this new one released!

This map is nearly done, needs a couple of tweaks before public release.
This is a roleplaying map, its intended use is any of the following - a mountain outpost, secure storage facility, force nexus, crime lords base, underground prison, hydro-power plant.

So this is going to be a pretty short report, but I hope the following news makes up for it.
    OPERATION: KNIGHTFALL
At long last, Knightfall is complete! Yep, you heard that right. It's done!
As of typing this our testers are currently hard at work finding any and all bugs that can be found before we release. In the meantime, my own personal efforts are now shifting toward other things so we can bring forth a complete update.
This mission has truly been a labor of live from many of us on the SWGL team, and after years of waiting, we will finally be able to deliver!
    NEXT STEPS
So the next steps going forward before release will include the following, but won't be limited to:
Upgrade audio in pre-existing missions, currently You Have Become a Rival and The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis will be receiving these upgrades first Fix bugs reported in other missions and make other adjustments for continuity. For example, Yaddle will be removed from the final level in Qui-Gon's extended ending for Duel of the Fates. Add a whole lotta characters. There are a few other things I'd like to accomplish but I'm not comfortable sharing right now as I cannot confirm if those things are within my skillset to complete at this time.
This marks the end of the report. If you want to stick around and learn more about what's going to happen with the original mission released back in 2019 and why this remake took so long, you can learn these answers down below.
If you don't want to read anymore, I completely understand and as always I thank you for following the development of Star Wars: Galactic Legacy, and may the Force be with you.
    WHAT ABOUT THE ORIGINAL KNIGHTFALL?
Our first ever version of Operation: Knightfall was released on August 12, 2019 and we understand that some people may prefer the original version over the remake, or at the very least may want to still play it.
We completely understand this desire, however for the time being, with the release of this update, Anakin's POV of the original Knightfall level will be made unavailable.
The reason for this is because during production of the remake, many scripts that were used in the original were rewritten and overwrote the original scripts, so for us and our own builds, the mission no longer exists.
However, before releasing and final packaging for the update occurs, I will be taking the current public build of this mod and will extract the original mission and will commence a full refactor of the mission during development of the next update, which should bring about the long-awaited remake of Father vs. Son.
The plan for the original versions of these missions will be for us to create a new category of missions called "Legacy Missions". These will feature archived or outdated missions that we still will allow you to play, but will no longer be supported in any capacity, so all existing bugs and the like will not be addressed.
So to summarize, the remake of Anakin's POV along with the current Clone Trooper and Cin Drallig POVs will be made immediately available in the Knightfall listing, and the original version of Anakin's POV for Knightfall will be re-released with the Father vs. Son remake update as a legacy mission.
WHY DID KNIGHTFALL TAKE SO LONG?
So here comes the opportunity to address the elephant in the room; what took Knightfall so long?
In August 2021, we made the first official announcement that a remake for Operation: Knightfall was in development. Darth Voiid, the man, myth, and legend who created the original wanted to do a remaster for many years, long before we split away from Knights of the Force 2.1.
After the split occurred and several months had passed, Voiid and Lwkill began production on the remake, with the first screenshots being shown in August 2021's progress report.
At that point the mission's foundation was moreorless completed, and as the months went by, more and more developments and progress were made and we were all very excited to have it released.
In the December 2021 progress report, I had mentioned that the mission was undergoing final testing, and then in the February 2022 progress report I mentioned that it and the Deathstar Rescue missions were blocked due to several factors.
As time went on, news about the mission dwindled and eventually became non-existent. 2022 for us was a time of great reflection, as we all realized we had announced so many missions, but had delivered on none of them. A practice which we refuse to repeat going forward.
Though final testing was done on Knightfall as said, what we uncovered was sadly a very buggy mission which was easy to break in multiple instances. Silly things like characters doing idle animations in cutscenes, missing sounds, and some placeholder stuff would've been easily rectified. But on top of this, the mission lacked stability and could not be completed in a single playthrough, which was unacceptable to us and required more work than we thought possible.
Starting in September, things took a turn for the worse as Voiid's own personal life was hit with drama and he lost all desire to work on the mod. As a dear friend of his, I completely understood. In addition to this, my own dedication to the mod was suffering as I was forced to leave the Father vs. Son remake I wanted to make so badly to work months on new menus that the "leader" of KotF 2.1 demanded we change because on the top layer they looked identical despite working in very different (and actually functional) ways.
My own dedication to the mod dwindled and I found myself spending more time playing Red Dead Redemption 2 or really any other game. But eventually those changes were made.
Near the end of 2022, Voiid was still away and I realized at that point how long Knightfall was taking to make. So I made the decision to continue the development on my own and allow Voiid the opportunity to gather himself mentally.
However, my own drama hit when I lost my job in late January 2023 and I was forced to move out of my previous residence. This hit of my own stirred me into a major depression and I lost all want to work on the mod except for very small pockets of time over the past several months.
Though my own personal situation has not improved too much, somehow I was able to find it within me to continue work, eventually working several hours a day to eventually deliver our final product.
This really has been a huge labor of love and a project that all of us on the team are very proud of. Voiid and I are doing a lot better thanks to your support.
Finishing up Knightfall was a very helpful experience for all of us and taught us more and more about the best practices we feel are best moving forward as we create more content.
We hope to move Galactic Legacy along at a better pace than before and we will be making sure to NEVER allow for any mission of ours to take longer than a year (or at least not make you wait longer than a year after we announce).
If you made it this far, then thank you for taking the time to read this stuff. As always, thank you for following the development of Star Wars: Galactic Legacy, and may the Force be with you.
