AFAIK the only way is to rotate the model.

 

I think this might be the case too. Best bet is to take an existing backhand saber and try to 'reverse-engineer' the process for your own custom saber.See how their models, .sab files, etc are set up and try to recreate it.

Yeah, rotating the model is one way of getting a backhand saber, though it will probably look stupid and be useless with the normal stances. What you really want are custom animations where the saber is held backwards (which would work with unrotated models), but that's a lot of work...

Problem is, that if he uses a TFU backhand animation than the second saber won't work proper. Since the model is used to have one normal saber on left hand and one single back handed saber at the same time

my first rendition of ahsokas saber was done exactly like this - I even limited it to the dual saber style and it worked pretty well from what I recall, or atleast my 14 yo self thought it did....
