Dusty Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 So, I want to think of a nickname to call Desann and Tavion style in game, as I'd like to give the player the option to learn them in SP in an official-through-the-menu way. I don't just want to call it "Tavion" or "Cyan" style, but something in line with the other styles, like Fast, Medium, Strong, etc. All I thought of so far is "Makashi style" or "Curved style" for Tavion. Anyone have any suggestions?
Dusty Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 Chisel, Hammer? So far Circa's suggestions are the best Cmon guys, I'm not going to name the styles after objects and french nouns. Give me adjectives! Pretty please? I want some real suggestions! Circa and Boothand like this

Pande Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Name them (and rename the 3 regular styles) after the 5 single-only styles from SW lore. (the other 2 styles can be 'used' with single but are more known for their use of staff/duals)Then rename the staff and duals to aforementioned 6th and 7th styles. Archangel35757 likes this

Technically another form of Vaapad, but there's no 'staff specific' form like there is for dual sabers. katanamaru and Archangel35757 like this

Dusty Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 I could rename styles to be after saber forms. Why does everyone associate yellow with Shii Choo? It's a fundamental style, but not necessarily basic. While it has the elements of Form I being the first style learned in SP, it also has a "classic" feel to it that a skilled practitioner would be just as likely to use it for higher level saber combat as would a beginner.

I think it's because Shii-Cho, like 'Medium', is more flexible than most of the other forms. Ataru, Soresu, Makashi, etc have strict pro's and con's to them, whereas Shii-Cho can be put to good use in a variety of different circumstances. It is the ideal 'moderate' form.
katanamaru Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 That's why I avoid saying a style in JA is the same as a form. The forms are mindsets for fighting. I'll typically only call a saber style a form because that's what people are thinking about. I use yellow the most when I play JA. It has a very solid attack set with good reach, attack arcs, speed, ground, and air attack options. The way JO and JA are setup you naturally learn to use the seven forms for the most part. You get a lightsaber and no special moves. So you learn the basics first. (Form I).Blocking isn't very good against gunners first so you rely on the force (form VI) and acrobatics for dodging (form IV).You start fighting reborn/cultist so you beging to learn how to move and manage your attacks and situational awareness (form II).As blocking increases you can block and reflect shots back (form III and form V) or just block and close in to attack (form V).As you get the more aggressive styles you can push the offense more (form V) and do so with force powers like speed and rage (form VII).As you learn to do all these together you are developing form VI. This is why I view form VI Niman to be the best form. For me yellow style allows me to do all of these to some extent. Sure red or desann is better for V and VII, or blue for III, but yellow can handle these competently.
