Will you be seeing The Force Awakens on opening night?
NumberWan replied to Circa's topic in Latest Poll
It's not the price, which bothers me much, but rather the quality and the "mail" service. But probably worth a try for the upcoming premiere -

Star Wars Episode VII Discussion

Princess Leia's costume has been revealed. Just a blurry photo, but the look is familiar, don't you think so? I thought of general Madine, cpm Antilles and other Rebel leaders. Source -
Is that the battle of Jakku? Or some other location? Rebels look a bit different there. Personally the game doesn't make me feel like "Hey, I want to play that game!!!". I don't know why, because the graphics are beautiful, the characters are familiar and the SW traditions seem to be followed in this one. We even see a Sullustan and a Rodian here. Isn't that great? Probably I don't like the idea of seeing Battle of Hoth differently, it's like a rewriting of the already established story (yet not the same as canceling all EU or creating new canon). But nevertheless I would like to try the game, and probably I would be thrilled to say much later "Hey, I played the new Battlefront and it was awesome!"

@@Vegeta I thought of an alternative - bu making several split pk3, which would be in the folders of mods. When you run a new map, a certain mod would be uploaded, thus replacing the weapons used in previous maps. E.g. if you have a city map, you have a Naboo heavy blaster, but when the new map of Geonosis is loading, this weapon is replaced with a Geonosian Sonic Blaster. I've never managed to comprehend that, as a menu within the game can run many things, like music, switch models, lightsabers and maps. It must have some sort of mod loading system as well. In this case, the skin file wouldn't be needed.
-
I tried to do that as well. Skins would have added a lot to the visual effect. There are also some other objects, which can't be skinned as well, like turrets. At least all my attempts failed. (though it is surely possible to create a version 2 md3 object, which won't work side by side with the original)

We've talked over that again many times. It's another aspect of marketing: they have tabula rasa, but they do know, what we - the fans - actually like. So they won't destroy everything in an instance. They are rebuilding the Galaxy from scratch, re-canonizing the already established things. For instance MLC-3 has become a canon object again. The Dark Troopers are no longer Legends only units. I am not saying it's good. they could have stayed away from things, which aesthetically and visually rise no questions, and are plot-related elements of EU stories, without contradicting the main stories. As for the movie - I don't think I will get a chance to watch a premiere. December might be a busy time, so I will simply watch it in an ordinary cinema. Wearing a stormtrooper helmet would be great, but I have no money for that now. @ Which helmet would you recommend? I saw quite a lot at ebay. -
Christopher Lee has passed away
NumberWan replied to z3filus's topic in Star Wars Franchise Discussions
I remember his very different roles. Count Dooku is just one of them, but there are also count Drakula and Mr.Scaramanga from 007 movie "A man with a golden gun". One of my favourites. And yes, the Fu Manchu Castle, if anyone knows this film. Seeing him as Count Dooku was also a very pleasant experience within Star Wars. In my opinion the character actually surpasses many Jedi and Sith. Dooku is reprised by many other actors as well, including the cases in the series and the video games, but it was Christopher Lee, who managed to develop the old count personality as we know it. By the way, did you know that Christopher Lee had a role of evil Kato in the Soviet-Sweedish-Norwegian film "Mio in the Land of Faraway"? Christian Bale is also in that film for children. -

@ I actually like them, as they don't look like other aliens in Star Wars =) I am not in favor of making them too active in the new films or even showing them at all... But if there is a logical appearance to Wicket, then why not? Darth Vader died on Endor, the native world of the fury little creatures. Nothing can change that and the fact, that the victory over the Emperor stepped first on the forest Sanctuary Moon, and only later reached Bespin, Coruscant and other planets, which had stayed under the oppression of the Galactic Empire for decades and remained silent. Meanwhile, there is a large portion of spoilers via the description of many scenes from Episode VII. Read at your own risk. -

Wicket the Ewok might return in Episode VII as according to SWU: I must say, that it is just an article in a Japanese newspaper. And the name could be for explaining who the actor played in the Original Trilogy. But if Wicket is to return to Star Wars, I can see that he might be the one related to the searches of Vader's helmet some time prior. It is possible he was the last one to be visited by Luke before disappearing - well, that's how I feel it. And the new characters might think he is one of the leads to the Jedi. -
Well, we should remember the phrase of Kyle Katarn in JA - it's not the alignment to the Light or Dark Side of the Force - which matters - it's more how you use them.

Star Wars Rebels (2014) Negative Criticism Thread
NumberWan replied to Cerez's topic in Art, Media & Technology
I agree with @@DT85. The two heroes actually a repeating of Jan and Kyle's adventure. Not 100% yes, but there are lots of similarities, including the voice. But in this instance it can be both a disadvantage and a positive side of the show, as the voice of Hera sounds familiar and undeliberately makes connections with other Star Wars stories. It is true, that the show is developing around the Ghost crew only, as @ said. But first of all it can actually work out - in the past there've been many shows, which used the same pattern, it was only one point of view. In TCW it was also the case until the last episode of Season 1. Season 2 introduced other sides and characters. Probably this might happen in Rebels, but for now the show can boast with other things, while it could present much more. -
@ Haven't seen that. Sorry. But in any case the trailer confirms, what was described a few weeks ago about the most wanted scene.

Star Wars Rebels (2014) Negative Criticism Thread
NumberWan replied to Cerez's topic in Art, Media & Technology
There are good episodes and bad ones. I believe the one about the fruit to be the weakest of all so far. Most others add at least something worthy of a Star Wars fan: a personal character approach, an interesting change of events, a return of a "good old folks". In this specific episodes nothing like that can be seen. We might want to discover a deeper exploration of two main characters here - Zeb and Ezra. But can it be done with such childish approach? The only thing I truly remember here is the "face" of a stormtrooper, surprized to know all that was done for a fruit. I guess this stormie is actually a depiction of what most fans feel here - "E-e-e-eh... A WAT?" -
@@Jeff I don't think, George Lucas would do anything with music like that. Some tracks have been changed, but it wasn't a bad move in the OT. In any case the theme of Bariss Offee is one thing, but the death of Vader - is a very different deal. It's the culmination of everything what ever happened in Star Wars.
-
@ We discussed the possibility of Bariss's return with @@Cerez. Is there any news, that she would actually be seen in Season 2 of Rebels?
-
@@Cerez Yes, using the same texture helps a lot. It's also applicable, when you deal with NPC count for instance: you use the same model and NPC file, but different skins for instance. Thus instead of 300+ characters you can have thousands of them in your story.

If you could change Rosh Penin,...
NumberWan replied to Mert-K's topic in Jedi Knight General Discussions
One can always replace Rosh with a Rodian (or a Jawa) and add their native tongue instead of Galactic Basic. =) I remember there was a model of new Rosh, which looked more like Anakin Skywalker in Episode II. It had similar clothes design, but closer to old Jedi robe, same colors of it, of hair and eyes. I never tried it in game, so I don't know how would that work out together. By the way, did you know, that the gang leader Brejik in KOTOR was voiced by the same actor? In SWTOR the swoop track on Taris was known as Brejik's Run. -

Theforce.net published a list of possible names for new Lego sets for Episode VII: -
It would be nice to see the new stormtrooper in action before Episode VII release. I just wondered: in the past such models (e.g. Clone Troopers Phase II) - were they released by fans before or after the movie?
-
I agree with @@Cerez. The usability of the model is also a factor. How many people would like to play it? What would it be like to resin it for creating new characters? Reborn model was from JA and remained the most popular model to recreate any other character like Obi Wan or Palpatine. But don't feel sad. Jedi Academy already has the model of Leslie Burke from Bridge to Terabithia, that can wield a lightsaber no worse than Luke Skywalker himself. Who knows, who'll be next?
