  1. Recently I had some time to kill, so I started working on a tool that generates random .map files.

So far it asks for a mapsize, ambientlightscale, type of brushes and the mapname.

Based on the mapsize it correctly places spawnpoints and lightentities. Since I had Racing in Quake Live in mind when doing this it also places race start- and endpoints.

At the moment it only fills the room with random brushes (either flat platforms or pillars) but I plan to add more complex stuff.

    Todo:

Generate maps that are actually fun to play

Ask the player for textures, color of lightentities, game (quake live, jedi academy etc), etc

    Gui (maybe)

    Generate bsps (probably not)

    Some screenshots.

If you got some ideas please let me now :)

Edit: This is also my 1000. post

  2. I think option two would be the coolest. But tbh, I think it would be more fun if you could choose which next mission you want to do next. Otherwise it might feel awkward for the player if you have to run through the temple without even having a choice where to go.

If it's completely linear, then going to the ship (option three) would be better I guess.

It could also be half-linear. We could make most missions non-linear and at some point you have the choice to do more missions or to continue with the story.

  3. The concept that therfiles and me had in mind back then was actually an approach with more instead of less 'role-playing'. Means you have people like Kyle or Luke who give you the next mission when you talk with them. Therfiles made a dialogue-script which could be used for that. Eezstreet had the idea to allow upgrades for weapons in the temple. There was also the idea that you actually have to learn the new force powers ingame (like the force training mission in jk2).

But I can see why it would be a good idea to make the game more linear.

The question is: Do you really need a temple map if the game is completely linear and if yes, how would it work?

About the map itself, I actually thought it would be a good idea to use the temple from Jedi Outcast and spice it up with the levels that are used for the cutscenes of Jedi Academy. But that's just one option.

  4. Dunno if anyone has pointed that out before, but there is a project called "Jedi Knight: Enhanced" on jkhub.net. So not only have we stolen their jkhub, now we also steal their JK:E.

On a serious note tho: It would probably be good to release this only as JKA:E or JKO:E to avoid confusion.

Also OJP is known as JK:Enhanced as well iirc.
