As far as unmodded campaigns go, Jedi Knight is my favorite, followed closely by Jedi Outcast. Anyone remember that JK level where you're inside a crashing ship and the entire level is rolling? That was awesome.
However if we take mods and moddability into account...Yeah, Jedi Academy is the best. Though it easily has the worst storyline of the series, in my opinion. But, the poll is about the game itself, not a poll about what the community has done with the game, so I voted Jedi Knight.

Then we can continue this exchange on another topic when I have a clearer idea of what I want to accomplish. I already worked on something like this back when the MP code for JK2 was released. Stuff like steady aiming, sprint gauge, recovering life/shields, overheating weapons (much like Mass Effect way before Mass Effect was even out), etc. For those who enjoy shooting more than wielding lightsabers all the time, it gave us a more strategic and smart game play. I want to bring that again to the single player campaign.

I agree. I think if we just updated the gun controls to be more realistic like COD, Brink, or other similar games. To me, it's a real pain that these weapons don't have iron sights, recoil effects, realistic projectile speed and accuracy, etc. I think my biggest issue is that the weapons in the game don't FEEL good. They can be powerful as all hell but if they don't FEEL that way then it's just not fun. Everything I listed previously can add to that.

Just as a "progress update" I'd like to say that I'm about 60% done that texture. It's broken the record as the most complicated texture of done so far - it's taken about 3 hours in total so far. It should be done tomorrow if I have the time.

It would also take out the Jedi part of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy/Outcast.

i too must derail the subject and put in my 2 cents on the whole unreal thing... i dont care what the mod is.. prequel, tfu, kotor, if anyone wants to start coding it ill definately be down to create some high res sw models with normals and everything. sure would b nice. i was talking to someone about it and they said it would be an issue to get them ghoul2 models, .efx files, and everything all into unreal, but i say dont. we wont need the old models and efx files if were doing unreal we can go all unreal u know? just my 2 cents. but throw ol chalk in the hat of dedicated modellers who are willing to model high res.
i struggle with the low res stuff cuz im always trying to save a vert lol
i apologize for the sidetracking

I have a key bound to my favorite commands. This way whenever I start a map all I do is push the - key and everything is good to go.

Man, this is hard. Let's see ... I like a lot of the improvements in Jedi Academy, like the dual sabers/saber staff, new force powers in SP, etc., and JKA is also a lot easier to mod, but it doesn't come close to Jedi Outcast's storyline and levels. I'll vote for Jedi Outcast, because I prefer the base game, but I like modding Jedi Academy more (especially since I've imported the Jedi Outcast levels into Jedi Academy).

You could bind it to a key and press it every time you start a level.
In the autoexec.cfg, try putting quotes around the line like "seta g_saberpickupabledroppedsabers 1"

I'll be posting another texture soon hopefully. It's going to be a high resolution version of the control panel that I posted earlier.

I read you guys and we all seem to agree that bringing JO up to date, even if the coders can't get a new renderer to work in there, would be great. I'm playing through JK2 again and the brushwork and level design can be improved a lot without the need of fancy lightning or normal mapping. On the other hand, I see so much talent and dedication and I cannot stop thinking, why redo something that's already done instead of making something completely new, something that reads originality instead of "what you did, we can make better"? I looks like we are only a handful of modders left for this game, most of them already moved on with their lives or to another engine to show up how much detail they can cram up into a single model, I say we open up a thread and discuss what we can do, Star Wars related, as a standalone and original project. Maybe something based on the original trilogy, Pulp Fiction style (multiple stories crossing each other), including not only light sabers but also short stories about Han and Chewie, old Obi Wan, Luke and Biggs, Boba Fett, perhaps a flashback with young Anakin. I thinking about something that shows/explains some things from the movies that already were there but you had to find out about in comics or novels. There's a lot to work on in there. Think about it.

@ you're most right. I think several things can be done to even improve the demo with the source code. I would like to go back and redo the dianoga creature, now with proper animations and AI behavior for starter. Then there's the weapons. And perhaps someone could cook up a new map or so. It doesn't matter if the progress is very slow as long as there's progress. I have the source assets, so whoever wants to resume the work, we can start talking about it. We'll see.

I've been playing through DF lately, at imp city atm, it's still a very fun game. I felt I had to get well acquainted with the game with recent talks of rebooting the DF project.

I'm saying we both got it elsewhere, it's the same model, just different textures on each. Anyway, I might make a new one if you give me a short while, I could do it better these days anyway.

yeah i know.. i still gotta make spec maps for it and what not so ill wait til i start those and make sure it all looks right as i go.. id say hes almost ready to rig. gotta orient his feet correctly... maybe some minor tweaks to adjust but overall im bout to rig him
and nevermind about the shaders thing man... proxy has soooo many lights and crap on him and i remember where it all is on the uvmaps so ill just have to do it
but maybe once i get the glow maps and spec maps done u can help me adjust the shaders
try that skype thing again man i didnt get it
edit:
feet and other things were a bit off from the skele after i looked at it... so i refitted to skele..heirarchy done.. tags set.. transforms froze.
prolly start it later today or tonight. shouldnt take me but an hour or 2 cuz hes a droid. a lot easier to rig. plus... i modelled him specifically for rigging lol i wanted to make things easy on myself for once

What are those things on his wrists?
They aren't there on the reference pics.

Circa liked a post in a topic by Botdra in Republic Commando Sniper Scope
Just for fun I decided to try my hand at recreating the sniper's scope from Republic Commando. I didn't see that anyone has made it before but I'm sure someone has at some point... anyways. I decided to do it just to try my hand at creating graphics from scratch in Photoshop. I must say it's paying off a lot so far, considering it requires different things than my typical Photoshop usage (basic map textures, mild photo editing). Plus if anyone wants it I will probably release it once I finish it. I started a couple hours ago and it's going well. I'm using a screenshot I took in-game as reference, and then matched the stretching/ratio to that of the stock sniper scope and just used the screenshot as a template.
Fun Fact: The text from the game in the upper right corner actually says "October 11th - However, I will still be out on riday, September" And yes, it does say "riday" and not "Friday". Interesting stuff, I'm guessing they either were just messing around and making stuff up as they went or they had some text file they just copy/pasted from for the sake of time. Here's the reference shot versus my recreation so far:
The base scope is 512x512 so I went 1024x1024 for mine, just to keep it polished. I'm assuming it scales everything down - which has been my experience with the gfx folder so far. The only thing missing is a few small dash marks on the inside of the outer circle, which you may have noticed. Those will be on the OTHER part of the scope... in Republic Commando there's a few of those dash marks that freely move around the circle, so to make that somewhat realistic I decided that the circular part of the scope that turns as you zoom in will have those dots on it, though it may not work the way I want so we'll see. As of now I'm almost done version 1, but version 2 will have some variants as to the outer edges of the scope. I'll make one with blacked out edges like the base scope, one with blacked out edges and the edges of the scope itself (similar to Inyri's Mass Effect scope), etc. just so you have some choice. Comments and crits are welcome, thanks.

Yeah, I was wanting to do the effects as well, that would be awesome.
They can be hard to reach. I'm not sure if it would be fine to just release it and give them credit or not.
I hate these gray area credit wars.
