[WIP] Raven's Claw 1st Person Cockpit...

Another quick update:  engine fire pull handles, miscellaneous buttons and capsules added.  Finished the holoprojector display features.

I still plan to add a few guarded rocker switches below the small purple displays and on each end of the console in that large space I plan to add an HVAC vent...  I still have to populate the center console between the seats.

Imo it needs more SW inspiration for the design, the controls need to fit the classic retro look.

I know it's not exactly a priority but just my 2 cents.

Carry on!

Yeah, I'm kinda hating on the control pedestal boxes that I had to model to support the controls floating out there in the air. I think I'll model a center steering wheel control and a "Star Wars'ish" center throttle quadrant in the center console and see how that looks.

It would probably look better than what you've got now which honestly looks really odd.

Ok... so here is the WIP status of the new racing-style bucket seat:

A lot of verts need tweaking still...

Don't forget the harness holes for the 5 point harness.

Fixed buckets are way more comfortable than they look btw. ;)

You mean like this:

I still need to make the bottom cushion and side holes for lap harness... I'll also model the 4 point harness.

I really like this seat, but it looks a bit too stylish for a ship like Raven's Claw. I guess later additions in dirty textures or old materials will do. :)

I preferred the old seats - but whatever you think works out the best

BTW poke me once you get to texturing - i'll probably set up a screenshare + voip via teamviewer and walk you through the basics of Substance Painter on a segment of your model

if people are interested I mgiht also be able to stream that to twitch or something

The thing that worries me about the racing seat is excessive clipping--especially with Kyle's shoulder pad... because it is so conformal. In the static seat pose I had to widen the seat's shoulder width to eliminate clipping. I'll post some more pics from front.

That would be awesome!

Ok... so I revised the racing seat a bit.  Here are some comparison screenshots:

I still need to model a bottom cushion... and remake the pass-thru holes for the harness-- but is the new racing seat headed in the right direction?

Ok... so I think this looks similar enough to the Falcon's pilot/co-pilot seats, yet still a bit unique.  The bulge on the back shell contains the inertia-reel harness and the two shoulder straps will come out of there and pass thru the bottom of the head rest on the seat.  I also still need to make the lap belt pass thru on the sides.

Looks like just a waist belt on the Falcon, perhaps a full harness isn't needed?

I suppose... but I was leaning towards a harness like this:

I think this latest seat looks pretty good with the cockpit:

Now I just need to make a single center-control steering yoke coming out of lower console, and a center throttle quadrant (similar to Falcon throttles) between the seats.

Quick update ( @@eezstreet ):

So I deleted the side-arm controllers and replaced them with a chrome steering yoke (...is the chrome too much?  Or should I make them black?).  I also made better air vents.  Now it's starting to look more like a cockpit.  :winkthumb:

Here's what I'm planning next:

Feedback is welcome...

I think I will follow your suggestion and just go with the lap belt-- that would simplify animations in the cockpit.

Would someone post some good pics of the Endor shuttle cockpit when Han and Chewie are flying it?

EDIT: After work today... I will dive thru all 6 Star Wars movies and take screenshots of all the various cockpits for further study.
