Lancelot Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 A modder created a LUA based mod years ago and brought physics to Jedi Academy (MP only). But unfortunately, the developer abandonedthat mod after very few releases (the version that contained the physics hasn't been released at all) and the videos on YouTube that showed the ingame physics have been deleted. So, I thought, because the source code is out and Jedi Academy seems to be able to handle physics (with the right coding of course), it would be great to finally get them in the game.I mean, at the time Jedi Academy was released, there were games that already had at least ragdoll physics. To be honest, I don't like the pseudo-physics in Jedi Academy. For instance, if you throw a thermal detonator and it hits the ground, it seems correct at first. But if you look closer, you can see that the grenade is actually BOUNCING like a bouncing ball. The same goes for the lightsaber. Adding physics to Jedi Academy would be a huge improvement and could make the game even more realistic. Gorc, Keyten and z3filus like this
Raz0r Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Doubtful for the main OpenJK project. It affects gameplay and (potentially) breaks compatibility.
Xycaleth Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 I'm pretty sure someone (maybe you?) already suggested the same thing, with the same reasoning
Lancelot Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 I'm pretty sure someone (maybe you?) already suggested the same thing, with the same reasoning Really? Well, this is my first request for it. But I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who wants it .
Tempust85 Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 There's quite a few things we all would like for OpenJK, but unfortunately we most likely won't get any of them.
ensiform Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 The number of GPL compatible physics libraries is also pretty low.
Xycaleth Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 The number of GPL compatible physics libraries is also pretty low.Well that's not true. Bullet, Newton Dynamics and Open Dynamics Engine are all compatible and they're probably the three biggest open-source physics engines Archangel35757, Stoiss and Tempust85 like this

z3filus Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8zmuSJKMgI&list=PL713B3FF8A3264414 I also remember a physics mod called Stalax, from around 2007-08 Stalax physics were similar to your videos @Xycaleth here's an old website http://www.wiremod.com/forum/off-topic/4338-stalax-jedi-academys-revolution.html ..and a fresh link that also has a DOWNLOAD button for Stalax+RP script http://www.moddb.com/games/star-wars-jedi-academy/addons/stalax-roleplaying-scriptpack Ramikad and Keyten like this
Xycaleth Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 That YouTube video is me I stopped development because without the engine source I couldn't get the level of integration I wanted. Now with the engine source available, I don't have enough time or the inclination to add it As for adding it to OpenJK, you wouldn't be able to keep compatibility with original JKA so it's a no go unfortunately.
Lancelot Posted October 8, 2014 Author Posted October 8, 2014 I also remember a physics mod called Stalax, from around 2007-08 StalaxThat was the mod I was talking about, but I couldn't remember the name .

Lockgo Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I was trying to find out how to implement newton, but its a pretty big undertaking. I haven't given up but I don't know if I have the free time.
