Hate this map with a passion.
  2. I dont suggest making a new server. It would have to be with the consent of the JKC admins and the forum. Ye, I agree. My hope was that there was a plugin that allowed new threads to show up on discord. e.g. If someone asks for help with an issue it would show up on discord. Also with increased integration if someone stated something useful on discord it would be easier to share on the forum. Not 100% sure how it would work or if it is even worthwhile. There is an active modding community though. The thing is this is the defacto website for JK modding which has lost activity due to discord. Would be nice if activity picked up more. Maybe if both communities were linked it would benefit both.
  3. Hola, Now I am not sure there is a solution to this but it is obviously somewhat of a issue. The discord server JKCommunity provides a lot of great advice, guides and solutions to specific issues. The issue being is over time the info fades into past messages and searching the discord for help with a particular issue that has already been answered can be troublesome. Also since Discord is now so popular it is not doing this forum any good in terms of activity. The advantage of the forum is clear. Its all indexed into the correct areas and easily searchable. I think it would be a shame if this forum completely died out due to people prefering to use discord. I think a potential solution is to integrate the JKCommunity discord with JKhub. I dont know the feasiability of this or even how effective it would be. I do know that IPB has several soloutions for integration though. e.g. https://invisioncommunity.com/files/file/9287-brilliant-discord-integration/ Obviously, it does cost money though. But thats all I gotta say on it. I think it could be good for the community if there was more of a link between discord and the forum.
  4. I did a little digging as well. These are some links I found, no idea if they are what you are looking for. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4Xbj09jZQUaWnlaZGFvSHJobDg/view https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4Xbj09jZQUaeC1PMU05Q2F5eVk/view I dunno if that is what your looking for. If not then the only other references I could find is https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0xnaeyvdpNEaU15ejBHSjJYcEE/edit *I haven't tested any of these links they could just be OJP. Failing that. https://french-jediacademy.forumactif.org/ This is a french RP clan that did RP with the mod so maybe try your luck there. Failing all that. Apparently this guy helped develop the mod and he is still active on moviebattle forums. https://community.moviebattles.org/members/jamjarbinks.5851/ Hopefully that gives you a few more clues in your search. If you do find it, consider sharing!
  5. You considered doing mapping tuts? Not sure how much appeal it will have these days but just a suggestion. Or just like 'quick tips' of things you have learnt to do that may not be widely known about.
  6. This just looks amazing. Be amazing to see a JK game in UE5.
  7. Doubt you will have much luck. Also as commendable as it is to give credits to these authors, dont let it slow you down your video. You can always add credits later.
  8. Im not going to argue for the laming rule to go away. It never will. Although almost any other game you are thrown in with players and you learn from your failures. True, some games now have matchmaking that helps you get matched up against new players but I'd say the vast majority of games your thrown in at the deep end. So, not sure this is a great reason for the laming rule. I had a look at the origins of the word as I was around the time it became a thing in JK2. Funnily enough I apparently contributed to a wiki article about the laming rule on here about 8 years ago. https://jkhub.org/wiki/index.php?title=Talk:Laming_Rule I distinctively remember Shroomduck coming up with idea at least which has stuck with me. Although I didnt really interact with him until later. So I'd say @Aldro Koon Your ethos is more in line with what was meant to begin with then what it has turned into. i.e. That the fun of one should not be at the expense of another. Its a tough one though. Because any other game 'owning' people is part of what makes the games fun.
  9. Another thread encouraging debate! This is probably one of my biggest gripes with JKA. People get banned far too easily. In a way I feel that it is damaging to the JK community. One of the most common reasons for bans is laming. Now, should people be getting a permanent ban for laming? I dont think so. Its important to understand that JKA is a very unique game. I am struggling to think of a single game in which running up to someone and killing them could result in a ban. In almost every game it is a non issue. I personally feel this rule has helped in the facilatation of the reduction of the JKA playerbase. For example see it from a new persons perspective. They join the game and naturally want to saber someone. They suddendly either get immobilised by admin powers that are probably a little too much fun to use. Then get told how to play by someone who is supposed to be a equal to them. Yet they have far more powers. No one likes being told what to do while gaming so they rebel a little and as a result get banned. Another popular reason for banning is 'trolling' This can take many forms some malicious some mainly just messing about. Again someone just messing about gets banned for doing something relatively minor. I dont feel this encourages people to stick around and be part of the community. I feel that the few active servers need to acknowledge the power they have. It's simply not the choice anymore that you can just join another server if you get banned. The choice of servers is extremely limited. Banning should be a last resort and not the first option. Lastly, the range ban. This in my view is deeply damaging. A range ban should be used as a last resort mainly to stop exploiters or racists or someone who is deeply ruining the gameplay on the server in a negative way and avoiding bans. Now, I know the main argument is well it is your server you can do what you want. That is 100% true. But, I think bans should be a last resort and the length of the bans more appropriate to the manner of the offence. As much as possible we should encourage people to stick around even if at times they can be annoying. That's my 2cents on banning. Feel free to rip me to shreds. Another lil side note. I feel like the amount of empty servers with just bots is at times damaging to the community as well. New players often do not know they are even playing with bots. Thanks to certain modders who thought it was a good idea to give bots a ping. I have on quite a few occasions join a server just to see a new player who is playing with bots and trying to talk to them. I know not much can be done about this but I do think the issue of empty servers and dead servers is a bit damaging to the community as it makes it difficult for new players to join active servers. One last lil side note: I think it would be could if more welcome messages just said "Press Y to talk" It is a minor thing but more servers should do it.
  10. Totally agree. I'd still encourage people to do so though.
  11. Ye, I think its mainly targeted at Mappers. Because it is quite rare to see mappers release their source files. Which is a shame. I'd also say that if a mod is dead. Consider releasing the project anyway. The amount of amazing mods that have been developed but never made it is countless. The majority of the time the developers never release the stuff they did make which is a pity. In the end it is down to the individual but I think it could benefit the community.
  12. Thought I'd try to liven up the forum a bit with a debate. I personally think JKA modders should be more willing to release their source code / map files / models to the wider community. Why, I think plagiarism if you can call it that in JKA is not the issue it used to be. I also think a lot of fantastic modders have made amazing stuff but they have not shown anyone else how to do it. So as a result, stuff doesnt get built on and improved and tweaked with. I personally, learn best by seeing how someone else has done something. I'm sure many others do as well. Being able how to see a creator has made a strafe map then making your own is such a good way to learn. That's a poor example but I think you get the idea. I think the biggest issue for new modders at the moment is the lack of knowledge because a lot of the resources and guides have long since died. Players being able to mess about with other players creations is just a fantastic way to learn. Also, I remember when KOTF first came out. If I remember right, it was some turkish dude who basically stiched up a lot of other peoples mods and created KOTF out of it. At the time there was outcry. I disagreed with it as well. But now I think about it... The harm was minimal and I think KOTF brought new players into the community. That's my take anyway, I could of thought this out more but I thought I'd just throw this out there. I'd also acknowledge that alot of JKA projects are now on github which is fantastic. I think more creators should be willing to release their project files either for learning or for personal use.
  13. With the amount of remasters and remakes its only a matter of time. That being said, chances of there being dedicated servers seems slime. Also there will have to be a store in it with micro-transactions lol.
  14. 100% right. I never preorder. I have a bit of hope though. Mainly because Ubisoft will want that exclusivity contract. EA has lost Disney's trust a bit. If I was Ubisoft I'd make sure to knock the ball out of the park with this game. Star wars games are a huge money maker. So either way now EA has competition, hopefully the games will get a lot better.
  15. I dont think it is wishful. The guys making it are the same guys who made the division 1 and 2 games. They are using the same game engine as well Snowdrop engine. Im hoping it will just be like the division 2 in the star wars universe. Like you can team up with a squad in an open world and just explore and do quests. Be a bit like Kotor online. I imagine that would have many opportunities for clans to thrive as well. The biggest issue is Jedi though. It is always a struggling implenting Jedi with other classes without them breaking the game. I think the only game that has ever done that right is Star Wars Galaxies pre nerf. You could argue swtor did it right but the problem with swtor is that everyone is basically a jedi. Which detracts from the feeling the being a jedi/sith is special. Also the game is balanced so a trooper could kill a jedi in a 1v1 which is just not right. Idk thats my rambling.
  16. Fantastic. Hopefully now that EA has some competition that will give them a bit of a kick up the ass.
  17. I dont like it. Graphically it is amazing. It looks fun as well. But i dunno gameplay is just so bland.
  18. Sounds like a tedious project. Good results though.
  19. I thought your server had a feature that removes clients if they are inactive after a certain amount of time? Might of been another server, cant remember. Also will I get banned for killing the app bots @ent You considered making a standalone windows version? I bet quite a few would use it considering Jedi Academy is basically a chat app in itself right now for many people.
  20. Could be doable with some serverside modications. Tricking the servers to not see players who connect via the app as not actual players. I'd imagine you'd run into so many issues with that though. For example not sure if there would be any networking hardlimits to having loads of people connecting. Another option is to have people connect via Rcon with only the ability to see chat messages and send messages. But more issues there as well. Another option. Have one 'master' client connect to the server. Who can read all the messages relay it back to the app. Then people on the app can send chat through the single APP bot. With a simple script to attach a unique indentifer to each message. e.g. Appbot: Rogers says I dont like toads Appbot: Leeroy says I like toads I dunno just spit balling. To be honest most servers are not even active enough for this to be a issue . It looks good though, I'll check it out in a bit.
  21. Very nostalgic Kinda makes me miss filefront when maps like this get posted and it gets reviewed loved reading those reviews haha.
