eezstreet Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 ...Com_Hunkmegs doesn't actually do anything. That's right, this little red herring of a cvar doesn't actually do anything, despite what others may have told you. It's a myth. Myself and others have determined up and down that by searching the engine, com_hunkmegs doesn't actually have any sort of effect on the game whatsoever. The cvar is initialized, but never used nor called nor needed. Raz0r, therfiles, Fighter and 2 others like this
Tx606 Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Hasn't this been known for years and years though? =Phttp://forum.ultra-u....php?f=22&t=311 But aye, useful info, sadly I still see it being used by server hosts.. tehehe.

There's /still/ threads on the MB2 forums (lol @@BobaFett..too right) which recommend adding com_hunkmegs to your standard server config..when it doesn't even do anything. Also, the only reason I bring this up is to quell any sort of rumor that this cvar does anything (had it referenced in a recent thread so I figured I might as well throw this out there)
Delta_135 Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 then why is it in the game?any clue of what it originally was supposed to do if anything?
afi Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 then why is it in the game?any clue of what it originally was supposed to do if anything?Afaik it should define the amount of memory the game is using from your computer
eezstreet Posted September 17, 2012 Author Posted September 17, 2012 Afaik it should define the amount of memory the game is using from your computerIt defines the stack memory (not the heap memory) that the game is allowed to use. This code was commented out in JA, because in JA they use a modified memory system.
Raz0r Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 It's legacy Q3 code. It has a function in Q3, but JA modified that memory system, and com_hunkMegs is no longer used.
Erstok Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 At least com_maxfps works for people with 64bit OS's on server motherboards like me.
