Circa Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 WELCOME TO 2014It's a new year. That means that new things will be happening around JKHub. It's gonna be a great year! One thing we are wanting to do is to introduce a new default background for the year. The current one has been loved and hated, and we think it has just run it's course. Here is where you, the community come in. We want you to submit an image that you think should be the new background for the JKHub website. Some guidelines:It must be an ingame screenshot of a JK2/JKA mapIt must be Star Wars/Jedi Knight 2/Jedi Academy related (no maps based on other movies or games)The screenshots are preferably to be as large as you can get them. The ideal size is 1920 x 1200 px. Using a 1080p TV also works great, in fact, that's what I use. If you don't have access to such a display but still want to contribute, take a screenshot anyway, and if we like it, we can try to replicate it using a larger display.Send all submissions via PM to the @JKHub account. You can use the "Attach File" feature or link to it.Also, feel free to post any cosmetic changes you'd like to see to the site. And don't forget to submit more featured pictures!Click here to view the article
Circa Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Can there be people/characters/npcs in them?In moderation and artistically, yes. If there are just a bunch of stormtroopers and reborns in their scripted places, probably not.
minilogoguy18 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Definitely a map by someone like Sith-J-Cull, Darth NormaN or MaceCrusherMadunusus. Would like to NOT see any NPC's in the background. Circa and Onysfx like this

Onysfx Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Oh OH! What about the skybox from Darth Normans Battle Over Coruscant siege map? That would look awesome! EDIT: And no one even THINK about using mb2_dotf as a background image. Agent Jones likes this
ent Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 With jaMME you can capture a screenshot with any size using off-screen capture, like that, so guys with low res monitors can take a part too. UPD: you can also use FBO mode (r_fbo 1) and will be able to take screenshots directly w/o off-screen manipulations with batch files etc. Also, I think it should be added to main post because some people with low res monitors could know they have chance too. I actually took my picture of @@Circa's jesus with Jamme, but I didn't know there was a command for high res pictures without increasing the resolution! Thanks xD. EDIT: I solved the problem with the JKA blackscreen for the mod by placing GLDirect's opengl32.dll inside the gamedata folder. You gotta do what you gotta do... Circa likes this
Apprentice Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Can there be people/characters/npcs in them?I don't see why not. Someone made a screenshot of one of my maps with NPC's in them and it works . . . Omicron likes this
RAILBACK Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 This is a great idea. Wouldn't mind actually seeing a rotation of levels. Far as a polished site goes I really like Ford Dyes site @ www.levelforge.com. For those who don't know, Ford used to be a level maker for RAVEN.

I got to 35% before I gave up on waiting. That's probably how it would be if we had a rotating background: slow load times. It would be cool though.

Circa Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 That's unrelated; has more to do with the entire site being made in poorly-written (and bad-looking) Flash than anything.Well, a rotating background would still hinder the load times of the site greatly. And slowing it just a tad gets a certain someone a bit on edge. Unless he means rotating with every refresh. Which would make more sense. Could also be cool. Not sure if we'd do such a thing though.

Not sure if we'd do such a thing though.Neither one would impact load times significantly, supposing it's coded correctly. The most significant load times will come from the actual caching/loading of the images on the user's end, which should only happen once.I'm concerned that this might be more distracting than anything though. eezstreet Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 You could, yeah. You just need to amass that many images. And that also means again, you have to load a super high-res image every day. Bing manages to pull this off quite well on phones, though.
Apprentice Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 That's unrelated; has more to do with the entire site being made in poorly-written (and bad-looking) Flash than anything.Precisely. My website is just a bunch of HTML pages with some Java scripting which I use to "rotate" images, especially on my Download page, which features a slideshow of my released maps . . . Well, a rotating background would still hinder the load times of the site greatly. And slowing it just a tad gets a certain someone a bit on edge. Unless he means rotating with every refresh. Which would make more sense. Could also be cool. Not sure if we'd do such a thing though. Instead of an entire background, a portion of an image can be used as in a banner of something . . .
Akimoto Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 We can barely see any background at all. Having a picture or screenshot as a background is not really useful for a site with a theme looking like this. At most you can see a little more on the right and some skies on the top (currently). That's just how I feel about it eezstreet and Bane_Ross like this

ent Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 They are cool, but there is lack of anti-aliasing. P.S.: hiding big images under spoilers for noobs
Link Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 They are cool, but there is lack of anti-aliasing. P.S.: hiding big images under spoilers for noobs I've never been a fan of anti-aliasing, I always turn it off in games I play which allow it
