Been a tough month, but an interesting one at that!
    FATHER VS. SON REMAKE

Luke's 1st level for his dark side ending is very close to completion with one final cutscene to be made before testing can begin. I'm very sorry that this has taken so long to make, but moving and finding the time to do this is quite difficult.
    MAP WAYPOINTS

We brought a new member on our team, Aimde, who immediately got to work on creating the long-awaited waypoints and NPC pathing we've been wanting for SO long! With his hard work, we have a handful of maps that are ready for you to fully experience with npcs as we've always intended for you to.
The maps that are confirmed to be coming to the mod with full waypoints added are:
Episode V: Echo Base Episode III: The Invisible Hand (v2) Rogue One: Scarif Episode IV: Tantive IV As Aimde works on this on his own time, I have given him free reign to work on whatever maps he chooses next and will not prioritize any maps. As he completes them, I will of course be sure to list them off for you.
    NEW CHARACTERS

Don't worry, we have new characters coming! I'll provide a complete list of characters organized by faction once we actually start adding them to the mod!

Hello. So this map, namely the city in the skyportal has been a work in progress for a long time. I guess you can say its an experimental map, I've always wanted to build a city and decided to compromise a bar for now otherwise this would never get released. The skyportal is fully animated and the entire map is almost all custom textures and shaders. I did borrow one of Szico's tree models though lol. Valora City almost feels like a personal diary to me, Its been my project that I've turned to when times get stressful or tough or whenever I just feel inspired by either Star Citizen or visiting a city in the real world. This city and the hard drives its been on have seen numerous real world cities too.
    Update: Map has been released.
I'd like to thank MJT, SomaZ, and Noodle for their technical help.
I also want to give a special thanks to ZanderNeo, Numberwan, and Omega for testing this map's various iterations and giving me feedback as well as the motivation to keep going on this project.

No, JKHub is not shutting down and no, I am not leaving! Chill. 😎   It’s no secret that the 20th anniversary celebration was a finale of sorts in terms of events around here. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that things have been quiet from our end in terms of announcements and whatnot. As this game and community ages, the harder and more work it is to conjure up news and events, as sad as that is. However, that doesn’t mean things aren’t going on behind the scenes or that we are shutting down, by any means. However it does mean we are exploring new avenues of keeping JKHub more affordable and sustainable for the coming years.   As you all should have noticed if you’ve spent any time around here, we have no ads on this site and we really don’t ask for money hardly ever anymore. That was partly because Caelum had been footing the bills for basically everything for a period of time, which got dumped on me when he left and I’ve been trying my best to do the same. We found out late last year that the software we use, Invision Community, has increased their pricing and forcing a monthly payment to use their software and get updates. As activity on JKHub goes down, prices go up. Not good. We’re going custom
I want to make it clear that we will never serve ads on JKHub, that's not a respectable solution for me, but we are looking into moving to a more lightweight and simple architecture, built from the ground up, to help cut costs and to streamline what we do best: mod and tutorial hosting. This will mean losing a lot of nice features that Invision Community has provided over the years, but the goal will always be to prioritize the features that matter most: mod pages with a download link, screenshots, description, changelog, download count, comments, etc. By the end of it, it may resolve a lot of minor gripes we’ve had over the years with the software we’ve been using, with no control to change it before now. With this new project, we’d have complete control, not to mention breaking free from being locked into an ecosystem that requires a subscription. What’s the timeline?
Originally we planned for Summer of this year, but that for is not happening. I’ve been doing a ton of testing behind the scenes and fixing bugs and stress testing on a completely different community. As of now, timeline is unknown but most likely not until 2025. More games?
There’s also been a lot of brainstorming going on regarding opening up our community to more games than just Jedi Outcast and Academy, so that has been part of this whole project as well, seeing if it would be a feasible move to take on much more responsibility and work in the long run. If you are part of other retro Star Wars game communities that have modding scenes, let me know if they have something like JKHub available to them or have they resorted to moddb and Nexus Mods and reddit these days? Would there be a desire for a JKHub-like website for those communities? Would you be willing to help? What about the bot attacks on the wiki?
In recent weeks we dealt with multiple attacks on the wiki, which to be honest I’m shocked hasn’t happened before. We had our wiki configured so anyone can edit or create pages, which I assume was done by Caelum to leave as little engagement friction as possible and encourage more people to contribute. We have since changed that setting, after multiple attacks completely blanked dozens, if not hundred of pages. Luckily wikis are easy to rollback. Though this event sucks, it does allow us to mention the wiki again, in case people don’t know about it, and to contribute to it if you have any knowledge to provide to it that is missing. Shoutout to @afi for being the arbiter of the wiki. It’s kind of a separate staff role but a staff role nonetheless. After this incident we have brought on @NumberWan as well to help staff the wiki, as he was already helping out where he could as a normal user. Big thanks to those two and anyone else that has contributed to the wiki! That is another big feature we provide that won’t be going anywhere. The slorg himself
In addition to NumberWan joining the wiki team, @Bart has joined the main staff team to help with file approvals and moderation. He’s been around for quite awhile and is both knowledgeable about many topics but also a kind and helpful presence. Welcome to the team! New video series
Today I released the first of a new series I’m doing, called The Sounds of Jedi Knight. Essentially it is just another ambient sound video, but for each map of Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, and maybe Dark Forces 2 if I feel up for it. The first video released today is for Kejim Outpost, the first mission of JK2. I decided to avoid music, to avoid copyright strikes, and I figure anyone could combine their own music to it in another tab if they wanted to. It’s a very calming white noise type of niche video that isn’t for everyone, but hopefully some people enjoy them!

Thank you! I've been determined to get it done right, even though I have no c++ experience and have been mostly winging it haha. Compatibility is definitely something I would consider when the menus are finished, however I have vague plans of expanding the mod further, to eventually overhaul the entire SP experience. One step at a time at the moment though!

    Amazing progress!
This is so much more than I expected you to do to accomplish all this, most people wouldn't! It's a bummer though that it wouldn't be compatible with things like JAEnhanced which at this point is what a lot of people are using for playing SP. Would love to see a compatible version with that be made at some point!

    July Update:
I officially have menus working in game! So far I've got the main menu, difficulty selection, character creator, lightsaber creator, and load game menus fully functional. A few bugs to iron out here and there, but mostly minor things like text alignment. The only major bug so far is the sound which is firing way to often at the moment due to the amount of mouse events I've added - a problem I didn't realise I had until I recorded this video, as I've been working with the game muted so far haha. I'll also continue to tweak elements down the track, such as refining the colour options in the character creator.
The biggest update is that I've had to make engine modifications to accommodate my designs. These have been mostly minor so far, including new ITEM_TYPES and cvars, but may expand larger with time. I've forked Somaz's WIP build of rend2 as the basis for this, so when it releases it will have full rend2 support.

  12. Circa liked a post in a topic by Plasma in Holocron Challenges
I thought I'd share some of the things I've been working on for the first update of Holocron Challenges.
    Masters of the Teras Kasi
I've added a new gametype in called Masters of Teras Kasi (MOTK) which is based on the PS1 Star Wars fighting game of the same name.

In this mode you fight eight opponents across eight stages that are randomly picked making it different each time you play. Once you've defeated all eight opponents you're taken to the boss stage where you have to defeat the final boss.

Currently I've built two maps for this mode, one which is based on the characters and stages that appear in the PS1 game and another based on The Force Awakens. I also plan on making a third map for this mode based on The Phantom Menace.

The stages themselves are based on the aesthetics of the PS1 game so you fight your opponent on a flat plane and the rest of the map is just a skybox. You can either kill your opponent or try to work them into a position where you can push them off the plane for a ringout.
    Ladder
There were 8 ladder maps included in the first release of Holocron Challenges and I'm planning to add more to that in the next update with these three maps.

The first is the Ord Mantell duel map from the base game that I've touched up slightly. Here you'll fight the Disciples of Ragnos led by Tavion.

As part of making The Force Awakens MOTK map I needed to build D'Qar (the Resistance Base) as one of the stages. Rather than just leaving it as a part of MOTK I've spun it off into a ladder map where you can fight Resistance members from across the three Sequel Trilogy movies.
The final ladder map in the next release will be based off the Massassi Temple map in Jedi Outcast and have opponents to fight from that game though I don't have a screenshot for this one as I haven't started work on it yet!
    Characters
Although I'm not planning to add any new characters into the next release I am going to be adding in some new skins for the existing ones which are listed below.

    Ezra Bridger (Rebels)

    Joruus C'baoth (The Last Command)

    Kanan Jarrus (Rebels)

Luke Skywalker (Empire Strikes Back) Dagobah

Luke Skywalker (Heir to the Empire)

    Luke Skywalker (Dark Empire)

    Luke Skywalker (The Destiny Path)

    Luke Skywalker (The Force Awakens)

Luke Skywalker (The Book of Boba Fett)

    Luuke Skywalker (The Last Command)

    Obi-Wan Kenobi (A New Hope)

Obi-Wan Kenobi (A New Hope) Robed

Obi-Wan Kenobi (A New Hope) Hooded

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Revenge of the Sith)

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Revenge of the Sith) Robed

    Rey Skywalker (Galaxy's Edge)
    Arenas
The Arenas map in the first release was the thing that took me the longest to make because each room has a completely different theme from each other. For the next release even though I'm not planning to do a completely new Arenas map I am going to work on remixed version of the first map which will have a lot of the same rooms but the fights in them will be different. So on Scarif instead of fighting Krennic and his Stormtroopers you'll be fighting Jyn and her Rebels, in Snoke's Throne Room instead of fighting Snoke and his Praetorian Guards you'll be fighting Rey and Kylo.
It won't be completely the same though as I do plan on removing some rooms and making some new ones so there will be some suprises if you've played the first map!
    Final Thoughts
I hope that gives you some idea of what I've been working on for the last few months, I'm not sure when the next update will be out but I'm hoping to have it finished before the end of the year. In the mean time if you haven't played the mod it might be worth jumping in and trying it!

A minor update on Chapter I – a pack, that replaces the old model for Shadow Assassin in the mod. It also changes the Shadowtrooper model in base JA.
The model can be downloaded here.

Thank you everyone for the feedback! I've finished the rest of the menu designs (mostly the datapad, but also the weapons selection), and also finished the first menu in game. At the moment, the main menu is fully functional in layout (though the background image is still a place holder), and the new game/select difficulty screen is 100% complete. I've hit my first roadblock in the character creator, trying to get the arrows to play nice with ITEM_TYPE_MULTI - at the moment, I'm looking into adding a new item type to fix the issue, but if it ends up being outside my scope I'll probably end up tweaking the original design.

Progress is likely to slow down soon unfortunately, as my uni course is starting again next week, but I'll keep working on it in my spare time and provide updates where I can.

So, I got a new PC recently and was finally able to replicate the bug a few people mentioned where the NPCs would just stop in the Academy7 level, preventing progression. Splitting the script into two parts resolved the issue.

Additionally, I've begun work on a new follow-up level. Some preview below. 😃

    June Update:
Since my last post I've been working on redesigning the menus. At the moment, these are just mockup designs and not functional, so I'm unsure how feasible they actually are to achieve at the moment. Any feedback would be appreciated! The main menu layout is mostly done too, however I'm still working on a background illustration that's taking longer than I'd like (painting Jedi Temple brickwork is tedious haha), so didn't make it into the June update.

I'm not sure about any new Star Wars games for the site outside of the other Jedi Knight titles, but I'm curious how other Raven Software games would fare here.  Otherwise, very excited for the upcoming updates.  And I enjoyed the ambient video on Kejim.
