Hey guys,

I'm new to this hole topic. I bought Jedi Academy last fall and right now I'm on my first playthrough - and it's awesome! If I'd discovered this game 10 years ago, I'd propably never played anything else.

Anyway this game is already 13 years old - I'm totally fine with the graphics, but it doesn't hurt to use some mods to push it a bit. So I ended up right here. Right now I'm downloading the hughe 1.3 GB texture overhaul mod. The improvements look amazing! But there are so many other mods... I really don't know where to start looking. Which mods can you guys recommend? Since I'd like to finish the campaign first (without starting over again) my guess is cosmetic mods only. There are also mods to change the character and lightsaber, is it possible to use these kind of mods without starting over?

I saw a few screenshots with a custom HUD - it only showed the numbers of the health/ammo/force but I can't seem to find it anywhere...

Later I might start looking into the multiplayer, so which mods are currently used on the active servers?

Well, that's it for now. Thanks for reading this far

Greetings!

Since your focus seems to be on cosmetic mods, you should probably take a look at the related section in the downloads:

https://jkhub.org/files/category/10-cosmetic-mods/

Mods that modify base character and lightsaber models generally do not require a fresh start, so you should be fine. On the other hand, for character models and lightsabers that get added to the game, without modifying the base game, you'll probably need to start anew.

A cosmetic mod you might be interested in improve the game's weapons' visuals:

Also, you might want to give QEffects Pro a try, provided that you turn off the Dynamic Glow:

A pack you definitely should get is Roxoon's HD lightsaber hilts:

As for multiplayer, I'll let someone more experienced than me take the word.

Welcome!

All those are great options that Ramikad listed.

For the HUD you mentioned, which one are you referring to? There's an option built into the game that lets you have a simplified HUD similar to what you're saying. If you open up the console (if you don't know how, read this) and type cg_hufiles 1

As far as multiplayer, there are a few big mods that servers use. The main one is called JA+ and it changes a lot of mechanics to the saber combat but adds some cool features. To be brief, it focuses on making JKA more of a social experience, rather than a combat experience. You don't need the mod to play on servers that use it, which is good.

Another big mod is called Movie Battles II, which requires the mod to be on the servers (iirc). It focuses on recreating battles from the Star Wars films, similar to Battlefront. It features maps and characters from the movies that you can play as.

There are a few more than that, but you can find out about those from someone else or on your own.

Other than that, most servers have custom maps. There are hundreds of maps that have been made by modders. I can point you to some really popular ones that servers use if you are interested, though most servers stick with base maps to attract more players, since the game is so old.

I always recommend to new people to try one of Szico VII maps.  Really shows off how pretty the game can look without any technical changes.  Try Atlantica, or if your a FFVII fan, Midgarv3.  Welcome!

Thanks a lot! Great to be welcomed this way.

I'll definitely look further into the mods. It's astonishing what the modders have achieved! Can't wait to try out the multiplayer.

Welcome to jkhub! Aaaah....

I also recommend Atlantica, it's a beautiful and unique map, perhaps earth could have a city just like it one day.
