MP crashing at startup!

The title is pretty self explanatory, whenever I try to start up MP it instantly crashes. A window comes up saying "OpenJK Multiplayer has stopped working". At least SP starts up normally before it decides to crash from fighting forceusers. Damnit!

There's a good chance that you are using an old version of rd-vanilla causing this but it's hard to verify without more information regarding the crash.

Steps to troubleshoot:

1. Move everything but the assets0-3 PK3s out of your base folder, and launch the game. Does it still crash?

2. If on Windows, try giving administrative permissions to the game when launching it (right click and choose "Run as administrator"). Does it still crash?

3. Try moving your settings (CFG files) out of the "Documents/My Games/OpenJK/base" folder and launch the game. Does it still crash?

I cleaned everything out of the base folder except the assets0-3 files and started it up without any cfg files written in it, however I didn't try running as an administrator but I'm sure it would still crash even if did.

Whoops another typo!

It would probably still crash even if I did run it as an administrator.

You're on Windows 8.1, right? The CFG files I've pointed to are in "Documents/My Games/OpenJK/base". If you are using a custom resolution, it's possible that that's the culprit for the crashing. Try switching back to one of the default resolutions, and give it a try.

And if this doesn't work, give the admin rights a try.

You're not running the game under compatibility mode, are you? Is your build 64 or 32 bit?

I use windows 7 64 bit. And I'm pretty sure my build is 64 bit, however resolutions don't really even matter because MP won't even get to the main screen without crashing first, I mean as soon as I click openjk.x86 in the gamedata folder and it tries to start up, boom... It crashes, won't even load past that point, and it will happen on a custom compile or a buildbot build and it's only the newest build that does that. All the other builds before it don't do that.

For further notice I have put everything where it's supposed to be.

Working on a fix, hold tight. It's related to our new temporary file DLL extraction method, and Windows not behaving as expected.

However, I did just found a new OpenJK bug that I never found in the baseJKA: If you try to spawn a rebel in the kor2 map in MP, it'll crash.

I'm going to bump this thread because my problem is the same with the most recent build and the solutions mentioned in this thread don't work.

I'm using the latest build, wanted to try out the most recent rend2 but I can't make it past the very first Jedi Academy dark blue screen.

It's not even using rend2.  Make sure its using correct DLLs for vanilla and ui too.  The fact that the logfile stopped in the middle of extensions list is fishy and lacking of anything useful really.

Also going to assume this means laptop

No, just a really old card lol.

Yeah, the logfile ending before it's even finished writing itself is VERY odd.

I know it's not using rend2 as I have to set that manually but I just said that out loud as my reason for installing and I can't even get past the first screen before crashing.

Video card is a MSI R5770 Hawk with a slight overclock, doubt that is the culprit.

@@ensiform, is there a preferred way of creating a log file? I just made a batch file with +set logfile 1 and +set developer 2 in it.

I wonder if that card actually supports the GL level it says in the log file...

Google search claims it does support 3.2 so I'm not sure.

This doesn't make any sense, an older version of OpenJK works just fine, it's what was used to start the DF2 mod that DT85 compiled. This latest version just crashes for whatever reason.

You mentioned some .dll files? I put everything where it needed to be.
