[WIP] Raven's Claw 1st Person Cockpit...

Ok... so this evening I made a quick review of all six episodes to study various cockpit layouts.  Below are screenshots of various cockpit elements from each episode.

Episode 1:

ep1-00003_zpsvqpl5z2e.png

ep1-00029_zpshbsmg2xw.png

ep1-00020_zpsp6b9qysm.png

Episode 2:

ep2-00034_zpshdis5wvt.png

ep2-00042_zps6z8ugxcv.png

ep2-00019_zpsz9xmzrs9.png

ep2-00024_zps14t0qsn9.png

ep2-00018_zpsj2xv5ylj.png

ep2-00012_zpssnu6z4k1.png

Episode 3:

ep3-00003_zpskgfsrgwl.png

(pay attention and you'll see they recycle Anakin's targeting scope above into Vader's TIE fighter in Ep4... nice idea as this is the forerunner to the TIE fighter).

Episode 4:

ep4-00005_zpsumabakxx.png

ep4-00008_zpsrql6b1ho.png

ep4-00006_zpsxf2zhdsw.png

ep4-00007_zpsy8qlujls.png

ep4-00009_zpstwlbjwru.png

Episode 5:

ep5-00005_zpsswznvgq9.png

(there's already been plenty of Falcon cockpit console pics posted, so I won't repeat any here.  I will add that 3ds Max users can download a full Millenium Falcon & E-Wing cocpkit here: http://scifi3d.com/list.asp?intGenreID=10&intCatID=10 ).

Taking this all into account-- one thing I see in my cockpit design that is too reflective of current military tech, is the Multi-Function Displays with the buttons along the sides-- but that is easy to remedy, as well as modifying the shape so that it isn't quite rectangular.  But in the screenshots above, I did see:  foot pedal controls, various style yokes and grips, various throttles (some not unlike what I have, ref. Anakin's yellow speeder).  I don't plan to change the current seat... but I will be conceptualizing changes to the dashboard console.

...so stay tuned. :winkthumb:

The Raven's Claw strikes me as (newer?) relative of the Moldy Crow, so maybe some inspiration could come from the Crow? They're made by the same company, at least.

I found this stuff while working on a model for Orbiter/Evochron Mercenary that never got finished. Maybe I should revive that project sometime soon... Somewhere there was mention of a VR headset system being used to pilot the HWK-290 because of poor forward visibility. Which would rather neatly explain Jan's goggles... Seems I remember seeing her use them in one of the cutscenes from Dark Forces II but my memory is fuzzy on that one. Here are links to some of the reference photos. No warranty is expressed or implied regarding accuracy.

Regarding the link @@AshuraDX posted. Really sucks carcass won't keep custom normals..

So what is your wishlist for Carcass changes?  What was the other thing we said needing fixing-- I posted it on here somewhere... maybe bring this up again in the Carcass discussion thread.

Dump those little blue buttons in favor for buttons like you see in the movie cockpits. Forget what our tech looks like, go with Star Wars. ;)

Yeah, those are circuit breakers...

Update:

...back from vacation, and I worked on the cockpit and displays as well as the outer fuselage around the cockpit. Naturally the scaled 26 meter length Raven's Claw is too narrow to fit a side-by-side layout, as the game cutscenes portray, so I've had to widen it. I hope to post some screenshots later tonight.

EDIT: I also have the gunner & gunner's seat in position... to help with making the fuselage outline.

ok... so here's a quick update for what I've got so far of the forward fuselage:

...as you can see I need to squeeze the dashboard in until it stops protruding thru the outer moldline.  The main fuselage will be rectangular in shape... in keeping with original design.

3 seater? Interesting, never thought of that.

Yep, @@eezstreet and I thought it was the only way to make it all work. So the maximum crew could be 3. Whereas the minimum required flight crew is 1 (Pilot). There will still be the two passenger seats... so as to stay true to all the descriptions I could find online.

Because the cockpit space is limited... and you don't always have "passengers" -- the two passenger seats will be similar to this fold-up flight seat:

They'll be located on the cockpit's back bulkhead (one on each side of the cockpit door).

I think it would make sense for the gunner's seat to be able to swivel 180 degrees, that way they can be able to crawl up into the pilot's position. Not necessarily fold, although that could be a thing. I imagine very little time is spent down there, so it doesn't need to be comfortable. For longer flights, there would need to be at least one bunk that can be fitted in a room behind the pilot's position.

Also this is a really minor point, but how does one get off the ship? I don't plan on showing that, but maybe the entire nose piece (pink in your picture) is on a hinge, like X-wings are? I don't know.

I don't remember those windows being on the original ship (?)
