Omicron Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Been working on and off this for the last few weekends, following Pig Brain's tutorial The hair is untextured, except for the ponytail which @Ëkvas kindly frankensteined onto this model for me z3filus and Boothand like this
Circa Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Looks like a great start! z3filus, Omicron and Tempust85 like this
Daedra Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 It looks a little like Zac Efron.. Tempust85 and Zappa_0 like this
Omicron Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 It looks a little like Zac Efron.. Not quite sure I see the resemblance there
Daedra Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Not quite sure I see the resemblance there Looks like him from the side not the front Omicron and Tempust85 like this
Omicron Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 Had an attempt at hair, not sure how good it looks tbh, it's hard when my monitor has loads of vertical lines going up the display. I've also textured the eyes now, (was an edited base one before) and given him a small beard. I've decided to make him a red head Barricade24 likes this

Could you send me that brush, or one online which is similar? I use gimp, and the default brushes are quite limited in range, but I can install and use PS ones
AshuraDX Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 @@Omicron aaaaah I doubt that that worksI think this brush is hardcoded into photoshop, it does not use a stamp as other brushes it simulates a real brush instead so it must be some kind of script that dynamically changes the mask while painting :/ you could also try this : http://www.poopinmymouth.com/process/hair_tutorial/hair_01.htm
Omicron Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 Hmm, I'll browse a bit on deviant art, as gimp does have a massive list of brush dynamics that affect the brush depending how I move my mouse, but most are designed with a tablet in mind, as I can't seem to get some to work
AshuraDX Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 @@Omicron WAAAAAIT you are not using a tablet ? wow
Omicron Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 Yep, just use a mouse Bane_Ross likes this
Circa Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 The hair should be pulled into the ponytail.
Omicron Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 That's the sort of look I have planned for it. I found some hair brushes, but they are more tablet aimed, so I might try to make one based off of some I saw and play around with the Brush Dynamics to get the desired effect
NumberWan Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I feel this one could be made into an excellent model of Exar Kun, including him at younger age. Light Side/Dark Side. Omicron likes this
Omicron Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 I'm wanting the hair to have a slicked back look, but this might just look to similar to what I had before I thought of another way of making the hair though; using the paths tool to make all the strands and make a stroke path from it with a brush, and then fill in the gaps under it with either more paths, or some other form of texturing.
AshuraDX Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 needs some distortion around the edges, short fuzzy hairs sticking outand some skin showing through
Omicron Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 Redid my hair again, and faded it around the edges a bit so some of the skin shows through Still need to fix up my mask on it a bit on the edges in places
AshuraDX Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 you did such a great job on texturing the beard and that hair looks pretty sloppy
Omicron Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 So would you suggest I try texturing the hair in the same way as I did for the beard? My feeling is that it would look too much like one solid block of colour from a distance, which was what I was NOT trying to do when I did that hair.
AshuraDX Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 atm the single hairstrands are to thick, this is not bad for a basis - now go ahead and paint over that with a finer brush and bring some color variation to those thick strands
Omicron Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 Better? (Can ignore ponytail, that is the original texture which I've edited)
AshuraDX Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 kinda, still not perfect but it's a step forward
Omicron Posted September 26, 2014 Author Posted September 26, 2014 Updatez, looks better now, I'm certinally more happy with it than I was Need to fix some of the colouring/lighting on the back though, by the top Ramikad likes this
