z3filus Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 So I was wondering if creating terrain with EasyGen is still a thing - or is there perhaps another (easier, more preferred) tool slash method? Say for example, if one was to make a race track or.. a desert with big rock formations and maybe a cave. What would be the smartest way to do this?
OCD2 Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Good question. Some people make terrain in other programs and export. Maybe they will chime in?
NAB622 Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Well for a cave, you might try these, although you'd have to sew the seams together: As for EasyGen, I haven't heard mention of that in years. I'm sure there's some easier tool by now, but I am not aware of it, since I've basically been on an 8 year hiatus.
Ramikad Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Personally I've been experimenting with Blender: It doesn't look very good from up close, but I think it can be improved with shaders. The only real problem is that those terrains, being solidified models, don't render grass sprites. For the record, at least the top screenshot spans 3.5 km from side to side, about 5 km from corner to corner.
NAB622 Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 Just another thought - GTKRadiant does have a built-in plugin called GTKGenSurf, which is supposed to generate terrain, and it looks like it can accept height maps too. Everyone forgets about it because the plugins menu isn't used often: https://icculus.org/gtkradiant/documentation/Terrain_Manual/pages/table_of_contents.html
