I think there might be some bias when people judge the look of characters in certain media. For example, people criticize the classic costume of female comic superheroes, but are oblivious to the fact that the male characters are also designed to have a lot of sex appeal (most of them use skin tight clothes to show their muscles, ie: spider-man and superman). What if I prefer to put an over-sexualized woman in my story? There's absolutely no problem with giving sexuality to a character, mythology is filled with those (succubus, nymphs, satyrs, Zeus, etc.)

My main point is that a lot of people have lashed out not because they dislike women, but because they've become very aware of the mentality behind the producers decisions, which in my opinion is risking artistic creativity in favor of commercial appeal.

Yes, Legends had a lot of very stupid stuff too. However, in the new canon(that has been the norm for already a good number of years) the empire has been as multiracial as the rebellion and had members of both genders in their ranks. I haven't read here any comment hating BF2 juts because the main character is a woman, however, I can understand some people getting angry because they feel they're being alienated by the owners of the franchises they once held dear.
