  1. now orchestrated! https://soundcloud.com/jedipedia/sets/swtor-kotet-soundtrack as a whole the action music reminds me of vanilla SWTOR, its so nice to hear some cohesion in the SWTOR soundtrack now.
  2. I normally don't listen to soundtrack samples because it ruins the experience of hearing it for the first time, but because they're MIDIs I made an exception. I hear a lot of KOTOR 1 influences in some of these tracks but some of them also have the dark brooding atmosphere of KOTOR 2, like this one for example: https://soundcloud.com/jedipedia/540498384a?in=jedipedia/sets/swtor-kotet-music
  3. Data-miners recently found 1 hour worth of music from the upcoming SWTOR expansion. One of the lead composers, Gordy Haab, confirmed that all of this will be properly orchestrated and what is heard now is virtual instruments. Regardless, I'm impressed with how good it sounds in this state and as a big fan of KOTFE's soundtrack its nice to hear them keep that Star Wars aesthetic while introducing new elements. Really strong main theme as well. Let me know what you guys think: https://soundcloud.com/jedipedia/sets/swtor-kotet-music
  4. issue with the LODs, during his splicing of model parts he's not acquiring the level of detail sets (which is what is displayed based on the distance).

  6. thoughtful response, I think a lot of it comes down to me loving the movie because I don't see some of those points as flaws, or if I do, as ones that don't detract from the overall experience. on the topic of Phasma, we can't really blame the creators for that. it was marketing that over-saturated the advertisement, leading us to believe she had a greater importance (interestingly she's confirmed to have a larger role in Episode 8, so her character isn't wasted just yet) in TFA when in reality she was probably put in their as eye-candy as a result of her badass chrome appearance. I thought the ways the Rathtars moved was fairly unique and made them a significant threat to their environment, basically enveloping the whole corridor as they tumbled towards you. they were pretty vicious as well, obviously CGI but in a visceral way that I didn't feel in the Prequels - probably as a technological limitation. that whole playing on nostalgia I hope is leading up to what was promised in the later movies, new and inventive things to the Star Wars franchise. I can completely pass the reliance on nostalgia in TFA because it needed to re-kindle what people loved about the OT before taking it into uncharted territory. the Prequels started off in uncharted territory, which worked for some, but alienated most. I think JJ Abrams said something along the lines that "To take two steps forward you have to take a step back first." the cynic in me believes they're saving the quality Deleted Scenes for another release because these were pretty naff. it'd be neat if they take extra time to polish some of them, hell even just colour grading would go a long way. on the topic of Jakku, Niima Outpost is intended to be this remote meeting point for scavengers - a place for ships to dock to conduct trade and denizens to meet up in a neutral area. at the start of the movie we see an actual Jakku settlement where people live, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume there's settlements dotted all over the planet and Rey just chooses to live in isolation. I think 'NumberWan's Re-Writing of TFA' would work fine, you're making it clear that you're re-interpreting it and hopefully that will be enough to distinguish it.
  7. I second wanting to read that. if you don't mind, could you outline what it was about the Force Awakens you didn't like? just out of curiosity, and maybe I can offer a different interpretation to areas you had issues with.
  8. the white imperial uniform signifies an Admiral (that would make sense in Yularen's case) and I believe the addition of the cape probably means Grand Admiral if they're taking inspiration from Thrawn in the EU.
  9. I don't mean to stray off-topic but I'm just interested in hearing some things cleared up for MB2 @@Hels. what exactly do you mean by saber-flickering? when two sabers collide you either perform a body hit (full impact on blocking saber, takes away more Block Points) or a glancing hit (bounces off the saber, very little Block Point damage). in either event a flickering spark effect is played, is that what you meant? that's pretty much how it works in all the Star Wars movies. interesting that you have problems with hit-detection, are you talking about passthroughs (saber travels through an unblocking opponent without dealing damage)? if so, like I said before that's an issue with the engine not MB2 specifically. hit-boxes have been pretty thoroughly tweaked and believe me its a lot better than it once was. that also leads me onto my next point about another issue you have: not much being added through updates. MB2 has transformed incredibly significantly over the years. I've been playing it since 2006 and a lot of custom content has been added. hell, for better or for worse, the saber system changes every 4 months .
  10. hey @@Langerd is there anyway you could re-name the topic? its a little confusing at the moment because at first glance I think its to do with a model (Bespin Elite Guard) when really this is a thread for an entire SP level. might even bring in some more people, I think something like 'Bespin Cloud City Vader SP Mission' is more enticing than 'Bespin elite guard and some maps'
  11. what's with all this negative bias towards mb2 (the mod, I can certainly understand the community having been apart of it for so long lol) lately? I can understand having some healthy competition but to dismiss it @@Hels as mediocre puzzles me. its pretty fully-featured with depth in classes, saber combat, maps, objective-based gameplay and gun-play...and you complain about hit detection? good luck fixing that when it's an issue tied directly to the engine. there's a reason that MB2 has survived from 2003-2016 and you're going to need a pretty impressive development team or a point of serious innovation if you want to take on 2016 MB2 in its extensive and refined form.
  12. VFX shots are the last things to be polished in the movie and considering its 8 months from release its highly likely the effects will be tightened. just look at some of the shots in the first Force Awakens teaser (particularly the Kylo Ren ignition) and compare them to their film representations. you've heard 3 lines from this character, seen her in about 4 scenes. that's practically nothing to go on in regards to what her character is. you've also seen even less of the other characters, perhaps Cassian Willix (that and Jyn Erso are the only names reported) will share more than just the look of Kyle Katarn. your last comment holds very true in my personal experience. I remember being apart of intense speculation of every little detail in the Force Awaken's trailers and watching pretty much all the people that thought the BB8 and Kylo Ren saber design was dumb turn around with a new-found appreciation once they understood the context. even though it seems like an issue now, the CGI of the AT-ATs won't even be an afterthought when we all go to see Rogue One in theatres.
  13. @@Seven in case you don't understand what @@ChalklYne meant: JKHub has had issues with porting, taking content from other games where they don't own copyright and releasing it as a mod for this one, because it can get them into legal trouble. the old rules used to be no porting whatsoever which is what I think ChalklYne is still under the impression, but I think there was an executive decision to allow models as long as they're not comprised of completely ported material. there's still legal issues but since this site operates under an obscure game that's not in control of EA its unlikely there'll be an inquiry. based on what has been allowed @@dark_apprentice, your Starkiller pack should be approved with no issues.
  14. while I doubt people that really enjoyed TFA and other media output since Rebels are suddenly going to turn around and realise 'they've been had' I think its more real to imagine that your passion for Star Wars has simply died out, which is fine. good luck in your future endeavours, keep modelling I'm sure it'll turn into a useful skill some day.
  15. There's still a market for the full version, the pirated blu-rays only have the movie, no special features.
  16. if this isn't from the first teaser trailer then it isn't pure John Williams. its disturbing that so many fans thought that the trailer music was done by John Williams when it is very clearly modernised and not his style because it shows me (and Disney) that people prefer that kind of Hans Zimmer music to the rich, complex and classical sound of all the Star Wars movies. I think Star Wars would lose a lot of its impact if the style of music changed, there's just such a wonderful library of music that has been built up by John Williams that it'd be a shame to disregard it all.
  17. well I mean compare and contrast your post where you demonstrated yourself what could be achieved to have a more accurate sound. the specifics were what I was looking for, especially @@Kefka since he has great knowledge of the subject. saying its 'too distorted' didn't help us much because there were many distortion effects applied. anyway I certainly don't hold anything against you. yeah it sounded too high quality for a crappy mic so I was confused but the lack of lower frequencies makes sense. hmm, I have a slightly higher quality version (in terms of video) where the sound is much better and it still sounds like there's a bassy boom. I believe the bass of Adam Driver's voice was boosted to one of the mics that were recording with a pre-amp. I would like to know what your recording set up was though. what did you hold in front of your face and how close was the microphone?
  18. that's a good start and that method of recording may be more accurate (what did you hold in front of your face and how close was the mic?) but there's a bit more to it than that. comparing the movie clip with our one I agree that there is too much distortion, but some of those effects present are very necessary in achieving the overall composition. I'm not a sound designer but from what @@Kefka told me Kylo Ren's voice is made up of being very close to the mic, projecting the voice to cut through the distortion and a lot of subtle distortion effects. that and a lot of bass. you should've just said this in the first place @@Sithani, I posted that hoping for constructive criticism from people who knew what they were talking about and you came off as being critical without any real advice. P.S.: were those lines recored with a quality microphone? I can't hear much bass or dynamic range in that recording but that might be because of the compression.
  19. yeah, you're referring to the TFA Conversion thread right? that happened in the middle of the server going down so some posts were deleted. with your friend there's a big barrier of overcoming that natural accent and in terms of effect there needs to be more gravity, more of a bassy boom as well as slight muffling (but bass normally helps with that anyway). I'm guessing he doesn't have a proper mic in which case that'd be hard to do without one.
  20. you clearly have no idea how that effect was made. @@Kefka is using basic plug-ins, I'm unsure of the Software but some plugins can be as expensive as hundreds of dollars, never-mind the sound programs. not to mention the way they recorded the sound is incredibly hard to replicate, they had a pre-amp to boost the signal and had two mics set up, one in Kylo Ren's helmet and one outside so it sounds muffled and clear at the same time. I've scoured YouTube for other Kylo Ren voice impressions and as far as I know this has the most accurate voice effect, so unlike what you believe it isn't that simple to work out the exact process. oh and also, there's interviews that say the voice effects worked live on the mic and were altered on the fly while Adam Driver was speaking to give that unstable quality. you're coming off as pretentious especially considering that @@Kefka is actually a professional sound designer who has done his research. I'm willing to accept that you may be a sound designer as well, and if that's the case feel free to suggest a better method than what is shown. if you are not, then please understand why I'm getting annoyed.
  21. mhmm, the best we can do is get an approximation to it seeing as how we don't have the same set-up as a hundred-million dollar budgeted movie.
  22. really? it doesn't sound anymore distorted than the original:
  23. hey all, thought you might like to hear the latest version of my Kylo Ren voice impression I did as practise for the SP conversion of Tavion that I'm planning with KefkaSFX (you can hear this in the other videos on my channel). Voice acting done by me, voice effects done by the wonderfully talented sound designer @@Kefka.
  24. yeah, that's what I was thinking that it'd be interesting to see a what-if scenario with someone from the new canon rather than a returning character just shoe-horned in. I mean Kyle barely acknowledges their past together so it was sort of pointless in the end, but whatever, I definitely don't play JKA for the story lol.
  25. @@GPChannel I'm sending you the improved version of the Kylo Ren SP lines. with the help of @KefkaSFX we were able to achieve a much more accurate voice effect (he's an actual sound designer)! if any of you are curious, here's the new voice reel:
