  1. Alright this next post is going to be a bit lengthy so I'm going to split it up into sections: 1. Plans and Goals for the Map. 2. What I need help with 3. Screenshots of Progress I haven't been working on this for about of week due to juggling school responsibilities but that doesn't excuse the lack of any updates whatsoever. I propose that if I make progress I will keep you guys updated on it so I can receive some criticism in real time. Now, as for how far I plan to go with Hrakert Station for now I plan on making the level up until when you first step outside onto the underwater part. I also have plans to bring this into Movie Battles 2 with an FA along the lines of insane wookiee-like Selkath vs mercenaries . It'll be up to my commitment to decide whether I'll continue to build the rest of the station once this has been done. At the moment from what you can see from the screenshots, the light texture is missing. This is not an error I'm not sure how it was caused because I was fiddling around with the settings of my light emitting shader *which works perfectly thanks to MoonDog* to emit a more orangey kind of warmth because the lighting was looking too dark and desolate (weird for a place underwater I know, but the ref pics I'm working off prove otherwise!). I'm also having trouble with fx_runners as in it won't emit the effect I'm trying to get it to do. I've placed the fx_runner and I've directed it to the effect so I'm not sure what's going wrong. The next ones a big one that will save a looooot of hassle. Is there any possible way to merge the brush back together after cutting it? Its split into so many pieces when I'm trying to make a direct shape that it just complicates a lot of things. Doing func_group does not work but that may be because I'm using GTK radiant 1.6.4 Time for screenies! I've found a much more suitable skybox so that should look nicer. I'm not very happy with the textures and the lighting though but I'm not sure how I can improve it it :\.
  2. Greetings, I recently got into reading Star Wars comics lately and came across this little beauty called Dawn of the Jedi. Imagine my delight when I found out that it featured the Rakatans as the enemy and delved deep into their hierarchy. I'm naturally a huge KOTOR nut and I find the Rakatans pretty badass of a civilization and always wondered what the days of the Infinite Empire where like. Anyway semantics aside, I give this idea for some inspiration for any modeller (or skinner if you dare try) to create a Rakatan model based off how they are portrayed in the comic. I am fully aware there is one in the KOTOR pack but that's ripped and deforms horribly in combat. I can imagine this'd be a great challenge for modellers to learn how to sculpt this bizarre beasty o.o. Time for screenies: Sorry I couldn't post all the images, I kept getting a 'does not support file extension error' when I tried to post. EDIT: ... you'll have to copy and paste the links into your browser now. Not sure why JKHub is flipping me off in terms of posting images or even links .
  3. Haha, I just figured out what was wrong. Oh my. First of all, I edited the shaderlist.txt but forgot to put it in my .pk3 folder, secondly I had a brush ontop of the other brush, identical to the one. That was what was causing the disappearance. EDIT: Oh wow, adding the file to the shaderlist did nothing, it appears the shader is still not triggering and no light is being generated from the surface. This was tested on the other more powerful computer but yielded the same result. I will post the shader file I created below in the path shaders/dynamiclight.shader textures/colors/white { qer_editorimage textures/colors/white.jpg q3map_surfacelight 7500 q3map_backSplash 0.5 8 q3map_nolightmap q3map_lightRGB 1 1 1 { map $whiteimage blendFunc GL_DST_COLOR GL_ZERO rgbGen const ( 1.00 1.00 1.00 ) } { map $whiteimage blendFunc GL_ONE GL_ONE rgbGen const ( 1.00 1.00 1.00 ) glow } } What's supposed to happen here is that the light is emitted from the texture white as this is what I have the bulbs set to in GTK Radiant. Any advice would be much appreciated.
  4. Okay, bit of an update. I've gotten the underwater hallway corridor done and I'm happy with that BUT the reason I'm not posting pics is because one of my brushes in the hallway has decided to disappear ingame, even though I can clearly see it in the editor. On top of that I created a .shader file with the info provided in the tutorial and put that into a pk3 but still no light was produced :\. Help would be much appreciated.
  5. Indeed it did! I was hearing about projecting light from objects and wanted to do that but couldn't find a tutorial, care to link me? Not entirely sure what you mean by the floating pipes but if you're referring to the last pics/area that is so heavily WIP its not even funny . Thank you very much for your criticism! It helps me recognise things I haven't noticed. @@Szico VII, that's just the rift fog over the entire map as you've probably noticed. I needed it for the murky underwater feel that was pretty hard to create with lighting as changing the entities to blue just looked garish and unrealistic.
  6. Been working on the map some more. Ignore the issue with the untextured skybox I'll fix that...somehow. Feedback is much appreciated! Enjoy! NOTE: The lighting on the final two pics is not completed which is why its an ugly shade of yellow lol.
  7. Thank you so much Circa, I was looking everywhere for those! Progress is going well, the doorway and the second room adjacent are nearing completion, will post screens when done. I looked ahead at the next part that needs to be made, and its a hallway with glass windows giving a view out to the ocean floor. Is there a way to get hold of the images used so I can turn it into a skybox?
  8. Thank you so much for the high praise jchapman1984! I can assure you I've had no experience before hand, I'm just real OCD when it comes to lining everything up and scaling it.
  9. @@Circa As much as is possible in JKA . I realise this may take a while considering I'm juggling real life so I release it in parts. I can definitely see this being all the way done if I continue to feel as dedicated as this. That was what it used to look like . Needless to say, I'm happy with the improvement.
  10. Hi everyone! I've only been mapping for approximately 6 days but I've found such a deep passion for GTK Radiant that I desperately wanted to recreate the underwater base of Manaan from KOTOR. Please don't hesitate to give advice but explain it in a way a newbie can understand . Without further ado here are some pictures: Note: The X-Wings are being used as a size reference for the submarine (not sure how I'm going to get a hold of that) and so far I have only the main room done. I plan to do more on the facility on the weekend when I install KOTOR on my other laptop. Its a pity I can't get the KOTOR textures but I feel these base textures are as close as I can get at the moment. Thanks for your interest!
  11. Hi, I recently just got into mapping by following richdiesal's fantastic mapping university tutorial but have run into a snag. When I use the hollow tool on a brush in GTK Radiant 1.6.4 instead of hollowing it out it creates 4 separate rooms with missing walls. I would hate to have to use GTK Radiant 1.5 considering that 1.6 automatically caulks something . Thanks in advance,
  12. Hey, So I finally got my makermod server working and the only problem with it really is that I can't spawn any npcs other than Jawas and a stormtrooper (which makes me crash). Has anyone got any ideas how I can enable more things to be spawnable? I'd really love to get some swoops among other vehicles and NPCS in there for RP purposes :3. Thanks in advance.
  13. Roleplay topic is subject to change. Server IP: 121.217.89.184
  14. @@Onysfx Considering that its working now you're very welcome . IP is 121.217.89.184:29070 (won't be on until tomorrow GMT 10+ Australia 11am) The solution was more annoying than complicated, the two websites I had sourced the port forwarding from lied to me. It listed the ports as what I have now found at as the Jedi Knight Outcast ones, no wonder it didn't work. For anyone interested the proper ports are 29060-29062, 29070-29081. That makes a lot more sense cause I've never seen a SWJKA server with an 8 as the second number for the port. I suppose the only issue I'm having with the server now is that its not showing up on the server list although people can connect to it via IP. Any help with that would be greatly appreciated!
  15. Update, working with Scooper (now a professional coder for a MMO company ) I have been able to diagnose that its not a result of firewalls or closed ports because even though both Windows Firewall and my anti-virus software were de-activated, along with the router's firewall it was still impossible to connect to my server. I really hope this is something that can be fixed.
  16. Hardly anyone reads or actively participates in the comment section though :\.
  17. Oh hang on, at the risk of sounding annoying do you happen to know where I'd find the Port Opening part of my Technicolor TG797n v3? I only remember seeing the Port Forwarding application option but I may be wrong.
  18. Would I also need to forward port 29070? If so, then to where? I recall trying to open port 29070 in the firewall but I don't think that made any difference. Still worth a try again today.
  19. I don't know about you guys but the thing that made browsing through mods (even an onslaught of lightsaber models) that much more interesting was the inclusion of a review done by someone other than the author. The 5 star rating system has been given as much attention to it as the old thumbs up/thumbs down system and if possible (not sure how many willing members there could be) a team of critics could be organised and each assigned to review something. It just made the modding aspect of the site that much more engaging and whats not to love about Averus Retruthan's near psychotic reviews . I undeerstand there's probably some huge flaw in implementing this system that I'm missing but I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it.
  20. Indeed, I see many familiar faces like minologuy and others that frequented the modding forums.
  21. Hey everyone. I was very curious why most activity stopped on JKFiles and was thrilled to find that the community is stronger than ever on JKHUB . Massive props for keeping this amazing game alive.
  22. Hi, Recently I was trying to start up a makermod server so that my friend and I could relive the glory days. I followed a server setup tutorial for makermod (not much different, only thing that changes are the commands in the .cfg) and it directed me to portforward.com and I followed all the steps there, slightly bemused that my router model make didn't show up properly. That didn't seem to matter cause the general layout was the same for all the Technicolor models - I am using the TG797n v3 router. Anyway, the ports it gave for me to forward were a bit strange as I had never seen those numbers before on any server. The port numbers it gave for me to forward where as follows: 28060-28062, 28070-28081. Now this failed miserably and my server only showed up under local with the default local IP and no one could connect to it except myself. I figured then I'd have to open the ports through windows firewall and I did that but alas that made no difference. Oddly enough, next to my server name under the local selection is [uDP] I know that's a type of protocol but I have no idea what it's doing next to my server name. Any help would be massively appreciated to getting this server onto the internet and you would solve not only myselves but also my friend's troubles. I certainly hope there are some other people out there who have encountered this problem and maybe if this gets enough attention it could help them as well. Thanks in advance, DarthDementous
