Inyri Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 This model is already done - I just want to throw that out there, so peeps don't think I've given up on the Valiant. That's just definitely got more work to it, and this model's just a matter of customizing it for JK3 and getting it in-game. With that said: Thoughts on scale? I'll be making a black widow version of it also, if you hadn't gotten that from the thread title. Currently it has a VERY slight chrome shader on the worn bits - very subtle to the point that you almost can't tell - as well as a specular shader throughout. I'm hoping the effect is much more pronounced on the black widow version, but we'll see. Oh yeah, @@The One and Only I'm counting on you for effects for this one too! I'll have to get you some footage I guess.... Edit: Psst psst, now released. https://jkhub.org/files/file/1336-m-98-widow-anti-material-rifle/
Inyri Posted July 26, 2012 Author Posted July 26, 2012 Also, another little thing I'm working on (still a work in progress, but for a half hour to test it out it's not too bad). Mass Effect on the left, JK3 on the right. Delmi and Miha like this
MUG Posted July 26, 2012 Posted July 26, 2012 Looks good, however, thought I'd point out the thinner lines on the original seem far more orange than your ones.
Inyri Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 Yeah that's why it's a work in progress. I literally threw it together. Everything's in a PSD though so it'll be really easy to tweak hues and things. Part of it is also that the background on the ME2 screenshot is blue and the background on mine is grey. Part, not all.
Inyri Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 Quick preview of the black widow version. May tweak the texture some more (it's mostly a recolor). Reference below in the spoiler. The extra bit on the scope is a mod/addon, not part of the gun. Also, mine is technically from Mass Effect 2. I'm not going to modify the mesh at all. Also, some more tweaks to the scope. Fixed it not being properly orange (for the most part) and corrected some other minor details.
Inyri Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 I randomly uploaded just the scope for lols. I'll probably tweak it some more and release an update. BECAUSE I CAN ON THIS WEBSITE. https://jkhub.org/files/file/1128-mass-effect-scope-replacement/
MagSul Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 To be fair, it's a much nicer scope than the one Base Jedi Academy offers! I like it. I'm looking forward to the model, too.
The One and Only Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 I'll get on this as soon as I can, I'm working solidly until mid-August at the moment though. Inyri likes this
Inyri Posted July 27, 2012 Author Posted July 27, 2012 No worries bud. That's perfectly just about when JKHub goes live.
Inyri Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 Haven't even pretended to even think about the effects yet (as you can see). Here's your first peek at the Black Widow in action with the sound effects (which should be authentic). Feel free to make suggestions on improvements. It only took me two hours to figure out how to get the first person model working. #RetiredModderProblems #OhWaitThisIsntTwitter
Inyri Posted July 29, 2012 Author Posted July 29, 2012 Effects are hard. This is three hours of work, and all I've really done is the muzzle flash and the smoke trails lol. The rest of it, though, is going to be a breeze compared to these _____ smoke trails. Which only work in MP. D: MUG likes this

Inyri Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 The HUD is almost to a presentable stage. Oh, did I mention I was making a HUD? MUG likes this

Inyri Posted August 25, 2012 Author Posted August 25, 2012 You just reminded me I never posted a new pic of the HUD, lol.
Inyri Posted October 12, 2012 Author Posted October 12, 2012 lol just had to share the amazing constructive comment I got over at gf: click me for hilarity Surprised he didn't tell me to add a glow shader while he was at it. xD
Szico VII Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 I find enviro shaders excellent if the env image is used properly and I do see his point, however I have no idea of the original design so really dont want to support either opinion. Me = fence sitter. P.S. ENVIRO GLOWS = YUMMY. (Maps ofc)
Inyri Posted October 13, 2012 Author Posted October 13, 2012 They can be used very tastefully with the non-default textures but it's also important to keep in mind what you're trying to create. My gun is significantly battle-worn -- why would it be THAT shiny? lol A specular shader does just fine for this.
minilogoguy18 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 90% of the time enviroment gloss shaders are used incorrectly IMO.
