TimtheBigDaddy Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I keep trying to install OpenJK following the directions on the home page, but it will not work. Can someone please help me?
mrwonko Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 No. Not with that little information. eezstreet likes this
Syko Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 Make sure to put the fabulous_openjk.pk3 file in your base folder. It's in the OpenJK folder by default, I don't know why. That usually clears up any crashes that I have.

That usually clears up any crashes that I have. OJK shouldn't be crashing if you don't have that PK3 in the OpenJK folder - perhaps you're using an old build? The PK3 is in the OpenJK folder by default because it overrides the base DLLs which not everybody wants - it's fine to move it there if you want to, but it shouldn't be crashing if you don't.
ensiform Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Unless he's trying to run SP without the jagamex86.dll in the base folder.
TimtheBigDaddy Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 Better question, can someone just tell me where to put the files? The install directions were too vague.
TimtheBigDaddy Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 Also it's not crashing or showing error messages. Judging from the other comments, I probably put the files in the wrong places.
TimtheBigDaddy Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 I'm doing a clean reinstall of Jedi Academy. I think I know where to put the files now. I'll let you know how it goes.
ensiform Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Sorry, they'll probably get updated better once the Unified SDL merge happens. Some things changed within that branch regarding the order/locations the game tries to load from.
TimtheBigDaddy Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 Great news, I got it to work. Woo! Futuza, Raz0r, Link and 1 other like this
D.a.r.t.h Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Hello, I'm also trying to install openjk. I got singleplayer to work (I moved fabulous_openjk.pk3 to base, everything else copied to GameData), but when I star multiplayer it crashes. It's a standard crash with the "windows is searching for a solution" prompt coming up. Do I also need the .dll that is also in the OpenJK folder in the base folder, just like the .pk3?

D.a.r.t.h Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 It crashes when it gets to the splash screen. It doesn't freeze, I do get the windows crash prompt.
Xycaleth Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Can you try saving the following to a .bat file in your GameData folder, and running it? openjk.x86.exe +set logfile 2 +set developer 1It will still crash like before but it will also create a log file in My Games/OpenJK/base called qconsole.log. Please post the contents of the log file here
ensiform Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 What are the specs of your PC? And OS version?
D.a.r.t.h Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Hello, I'll get back to this soon. Yesterday I moved the .dll file in the OpenJK folder to base and multiplayer started fine, however when I connected to a server (JA+ server to be exact) it crashed when trying to connect. Still confused.
ensiform Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 We need more details otherwise it becomes difficult to help you track down the issue. You've established now that the server was JA+, but what was the gametype? When exactly did it crash? Was there any loading at all? Do you have JA+ client side installed?
D.a.r.t.h Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Are you starting from a .bat file or not? Nope, not yet! I'll continue troubleshooting tomorrow, as I haven't had time to play and mess with JKA today. I'll post an update tomorrow.
D.a.r.t.h Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Help, forum says my post is too long! I can't post the contents of the crash dump. I even used spoiler tag... What do I do now, screenshot?
mrwonko Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 There are plenty of web paste services like slexy where you can upload texts. Xycaleth likes this
