Fire Phoenix Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 As in the topic, here is a picturehttps://jkhub.org/images/e7uqaf0.jpgIs there any easier solution to make a handrail or to get rid of these errors? please respond
Fire Phoenix Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 it doesn't always fit. I've seen many professional cylinders, cables etc on the other maps. They're not bugged yet still they're not models.
IrocJeff Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 You can make a handrail from a bevel and thicken it by 2 and it looks ok. Its flat, not rounded, though.
Fire Phoenix Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 I take it as ''there's no other solution'' then.
mrwonko Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 That texture makes it pretty hard to see what shape that thing has... I suppose it's a cylinder? How did you create it?
Boothand Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Actually, what version of GtkRadiant do you use? 1.6 tends to have a bunch of nonsense bugs, causing all kinds of faulty brushes. Does it happen every time you make the brush? Tried using the brush cleanup tool?In 1.5, making cylinders turns out well for me, as far as I can remember. NumberWan likes this
NumberWan Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Using cylinders and bending them sometimes help. There is also a square cylinder, but keep in mind, that some textures look ugly on these. In some cases I used thicken option for some of the bevels, and it also created wonderful shapes. Bugs do appear sometimes, but not when you are close enough.
Fire Phoenix Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 I know the texture sucks. It's just test texture. I use gtk radiant 1.4. The way I create a cylinder is simple: create a box and click Brush tab; arbitary sided... and set 24( maybe too much)This is how it looks in radiant:https://jkhub.org/images/GmCkMun.jpgWhat does brush cleanup do?I'm sry for being noobish but I have radiant for just 2 weeks. I'm not yet familiar with it's all optionsI know very much of entities though thanks to lugormod, however 3D modelling is not my best side.
Boothand Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Brush cleanup removes invalid brushes. Save before you use it, and you're totally safe though. I don't know the state of GtkRadiant 1.4 that well.In any case, I would go for a smaller number of sides, maybe 8-10. Most of the time when bugs like that appear, you should just remake the brush and see if it happens again. In some cases, I've got bugs when rotating certain brushes freely (with the Rotate tool). Once again, I'd just have to remake it and try again, and it should work.
Fire Phoenix Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 yeah... well that happens to me a lot when I try to make circle shapes like cylinders. I think the reason is that some planes might overlap, but when I try CSG substract tool it buggs it even more.. Could updating radiant to 1.5 fix the problem?

Fire Phoenix Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 Ohm.. well guess I will have to learn what patches are now.
Fire Phoenix Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 If patch means Curve tab / cylinder then it can't be as small as I want and keep it's cylindric shape. I wonder how do other mappers make cables or pipes or handrails. Not in radiant I think
Solution Boothand Posted June 1, 2014 Solution Posted June 1, 2014 Have you changed the grid size enough? Here's how to do it with patches. Sorry for the static noise! PS. Click space to duplicate a brush or patch. That's what I do before I rotate them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgUD8bnon_w
