ShenLong Kazama Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 When i'm trying to open a pk3 file, it says error. Pakscape doesn't crash but it can't open the files either. The weird thing is, it worked a short time before, but then it somehow freezed and now it doesn't really work at all. Perhaps somekind of dll problems perhaps? Anyone?
Raz0r Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Is it only a specific file? In any case, you can use a regular archive manager to handle PK3 (zip) files. I prefer 7-zip.

I prefer 7-zip.It won't open any pk3 files, so it's not a specific file unfortunately. So if this won't work, can i still create own pk3 files with 7-zip etc.?
Circa Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 PK3 files are just ZIP files with a .pk3 extension. So you can make a pk3 with any archiving software. Maybe you should try downloading Pakscape again? Not sure what's going on here.
Didz Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Pakscape isn't the most robust archive tool out there. 7-zip can create ZIP files, so all you need to do is change the extension from .zip to .pk3. 7-zip will open your .pk3 files as long as you set Windows to "Open With" 7-zip.

Try running it as an administrator and see if you can open these files with another packager such as 7-zip or WinRAR . . .

And although i tried to run as administrator, it still won't open pk3 files. But as i said before, it worked briefly before the whole thing went nuts.
ShenLong Kazama Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 Did you try downloading it again?Yup, from different sites. Filefront for example. But perhaps there's a "stable" version on a website? Where did you get your pakscape version?
Circa Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 There's only one version that I'm aware of, I only suggested redownloading because sometimes downloads can get corrupted.
ShenLong Kazama Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 There's only one version that I'm aware of, I only suggested redownloading because sometimes downloads can get corrupted.Okay. I'll try a few things until i'm deadcertain that it won't work for now. I'll be back.
ShenLong Kazama Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Okay, tried for many hours to figure out how to get pakscape to work, no success unfortunately. So i'll use 7-zip instead.

ShenLong Kazama Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 What OS are you on?Windows 7, but it worked fine when i first got my PC. So i've no clue.
minilogoguy18 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 That's really strange, I've been using PakScape since 2004, I like it because of it's simplicity and doesn't do anything I don't need it to. I've used it on windows XP and 7 with no problems at all. Don't think I've ever heard of anyone having any problems with the program. You should maybe make sure whatever antivirus you have isn't blocking it or anything.
Circa Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 That's a good point. Since it's a single file .exe, sometimes antiviruses automatically block them.
Solution ShenLong Kazama Posted April 4, 2014 Author Solution Posted April 4, 2014 I'll try to pinpoint the location of the program that might cause this problem. Hope it'll work. Pakscape really is the best and easiest program for pak files etc. Edit: Found the problem, the reason why pakscape couldn't open the files was that all the pk3 files were in a folder with japanese letters, realized that when i could open the files in the base folder without a problem. Thanks for your assistance.
