"inroo"
whom?
-
This isn't me, but I met this couple at the Escapist Expo today, awesome Garrus and Tali cosplays.
-
The reduction process is the whole reason this is taking so long lol. Like I said, I never intended this to go in the game when I first made it.
-EDIT-
Also, none of the meshes should have backfaces, I was very thorough in removing them when I began the whole process.
-
wow...I didn't know that was possible...I gotta study code sometime
I'm not even a coder and I know that if he didn't set it up that way then the bot would probably have responded to himself...which would have been a nightmare lol.
-
He works fast....I tried to edit a post cause I had submitted it before I'd realized what I'd done, and he was there within seconds >.<
-
How much does a shoutbox have to be moderated anyway? Aside from illegal content spreading and whatnot (but I guess that's a pretty big deal too).
With our luck you would code a spambot for it, then we would have this whole L i n u x problem all over again <.<
tried to come back and edit this to stop him...wasn't quick enough >.<

Not really much to show visually at this point, but I finished the UV mapping last night.
-
Scripting *might* make that possible...but I have little to no experience in that area...so I cant say for sure.
-
Well it is almost always trial and error when making textures...and usually you have to make overlays and sample details from real world stuff...and kinda mix things together.
Maybe I'll look into setting up some photoshop videos made that could act as "texturing classes".
-Edit-
If I did so I was thinking of doing them as livestreams, that would also be recorded for later viewing. This would allow people to join the stream and ask questions live. But here are my questions for everyone here; what kind of techniques would everyone be interested to learn? Should I do a class on features of photoshop? any other ideas?
post stuff here and I will start working on some lesson plans.
also what time would be most convenient for a stream? I'm on EST time.
I'll announce streams a good week in advance.

This is why I have a 2 TB harddrive called Library...specifically to keep projects and junk off my desktop

the texture bit is weird...I don't work in XSI so I couldn't say what the issue is with the mesh...but your description is definitely one of a model who's xforms are messed up.
-
sounds like you didn't reset each meshes Xform...Idk how that is done in XSI tho...
Also...textures are done with the .skin file...you assign one to each part of the mesh via name...not really sure why your trying to export textures....then again I have only been skimming this conversation.
-
...it won't cause any issues.
Yeah....ok....lol
-
Kinda my point...the build is easy, the rigging is not likely to be easy.
-
the head is ported from KOTOR tho >.<, so depressing.

I think he'd look odd when limited to the jka skeleton. Would work ofc but I think it would look more like a guy cosplaying him xD
^This.
I don't think he would be difficult to build overall...but making him fit that skeleton without making him look fucked up? Not likely.
-
Cleaned up the mesh a bit...it is still roughly 15k ploys overall tho, and roughly 16k in verts...no bueno

I would by no means call this flawless, but thanks for the compliment.
On the downside that is what is holding this model up...since I wasn't supposed to texture it, I designed it to show all the detail in the model...and now I have to reverse that...on top of killing these hideous vert nests throughout the mesh.

Assume that any time you see me pop into Jedi Academy on steam it means I'm testing a mod.
Oh I figured as much, wasn't exactly sure what...though unless you have something else up your sleeves I guess it had to be the Geth.
-
No worries, it wasn't bothering me...just caught my eye is all.

So I posted this a while back in my Introduction post on the forum....but I am getting to work on it so I feel I can start a thread for it.
This model is very much a work in progress...I actually made it as a project about 2 years ago, for my very first modeling class, and was not required to rig, uvmap, or texture it...hell the polyflow really wasn't being considered in the grade so I allowed WAY to many triangles and other ugly abominations to form in my meshes and make this thing a whopping 18k poly character....no good for JKA...so as an exclusive release here I am cleaning him up, and texturing him for release here on JKHub....
Hopefully that is lol...he is turning out to be a real task to optimize....
DAMN YOU PAST ME >.<
Anywho...I will try to post some updates on the clean-up progress either tonight or tomorrow.

Just as a heads up, the release will be delayed slightly because during testing we noted that having more than 2 or 3 geth on screen effectively took my framerate from 90fps to 30fps, so we're going to look into definitely adding some LOD's before release.
Testing this was very amusing, though.
This explains why Steam keeps popping up to tell me your playing JKA lol

Same concept strangely more alluring.
I dunno...something about that just feels off to me....
I realize it is exactly the same thing....but it just....i dunno.

See, that is your opinion. I happen to find that quite shitty, and that is my opinion. So "most awesome" is arguable.
You can only say that if you have in fact seen it.
...You knew what Dr Who was all along. D:
This. I was ninja'd.
Making this for a class...

Well I will be showing things like texture work for models, or mapping...that would be more of a background image...however most of the principles you can learn are the same.
