  1. Currently using Blender v2.71 but also tested this with Blender v2.64.

I've converted the top/lower portions of a door in my map into two separate ASE models, which I want to convert to MD3 so I can animate them to move. After importing one of the models into Blender it doesn't have any textures on it, even after switching to the 'textured' view. If I select sections (objects) of my model it lists which texture it should have applied under the 'texture' tab but there are no textures imported into the program. I'm working out of the game's base directory, the model is located in /base/models/map_objects and the textures are located in the /base/textures folder. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks.

  2. I use Wondershare for ripping my DVDs and notice its settings aren't the best and there aren't a lot of advanced features for the user to change. It automatically tries to do a lot of things and leaving it at default doesn't always yield the best results. You might be better off in the future by using editing software such as Sony Vegas that allows you to specify all of your video settings manually if you so choose and avoiding loss of quality.

  3. It's been a long time since I've done any scripting, but isn't it possible to flag the prisoner NPC as an 'enemy'? That way he'll appear friendly to the stormtrooper NPCs and then you can set 'notarget' on the prisoner as well so he will ignore you and not attack.

  4. No, having some different issues on my end and I'm using the exe and dll that was provided.

When starting a new game, it doesn't load the text-scrawl/video and goes directly to the level. Once loaded, the camera starts glitching from me standing on the table with the mercenary also standing up on the table stuck halfway into the ceiling. I have a lightsaber in hand that doesn't activate and I have to rush into the bar area to grab the E-11 blaster. I reloaded from checkpoint after dying and that started the text-crawl/video and then loaded me ingame with the default JKA pistol. It was also using the regular Kyle model and not the one you created.

  5. Because it takes resources to keep it going. It would free up the resources or other things to allow them to use for new games.

Which would, essentially, finish off JKA for good if it was shut down if it wasn't for the JKHub Master server. Unless of course you manually enter the IP of the server you want to join. Although, new players probably wouldn't take the time to look into why no servers are being listed. I guess at that point it would turn into a single-player game only.

  6. I have been playing around putting bf2 assets in maps, My mapping skill is pretty lame at this point otherwise I'd contribute. I have been reading a few tutorials on map building in blender. May be the way to go as radiant is harder to use.

Why do you say that Radiant is harder to use than Blender? It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it. It's much faster, in my opinion, to draw out the BSP, apply textures, add lighting, and compile rather than open up a 3D modeling program and model the entire map and hope that the geometry carries over correctly.

    2. By using the GPL, you must provide a copy of your mod's source code to anyone who asks, free of charge.

In the case of maps I assume this would mean include the .map file somewhere within the pk3 file? Or does it have to be by itself outside of a container file. I know a pk3 is basically a ZIP, but still.

  8. That sounds like what happens when your color depth is changed for the game. If you Alt+Tab out of the game is your whole desktop that color as well? If so, Steam Overlay is affected by that while you're ingame.

  9. Title says it all... I'm looking for the best, free screen capture software to record some Sniper Elite gameplay that I thinkwould be great enhancements to Jedi Knight.

PC OS: Windows 7 Pro SP1

I discovered this program awhile back that works pretty well. You can even capture your desktop with it if you wanted to, although you have to change a few settings first.

  10. It seems that the JKA community in general has always ended up getting into arguments and flame wars over the smallest things. Unfortunately, that's what has driven away a lot of the old modders. I think it's safe to say that most of the more serious modders here are married and just starting families and they're part of this community working with a hobby that they enjoy. They don't come here looking to start arguments or participate in them.

I think respect is something that is earned within the community. Sure, when you make your first reskin or open up gtkRadiant and create a hollowed out box, you feel pretty good about it and immediately want to go post your latest creation online to get feedback on it. There will probably be that person that likes it or says it looks great. Then the next guy might come along and says, "What is THAT? It's the worst garbage I've ever seen!" Granted, I haven't actually seen anything quite THAT drastic on the forums here. The difference, I believe, between flat out unhelpful criticism and constructive criticism is the guy that might be that harsh on you, but then offers feedback on what you could CHANGE to make it look better.

We all have different ways of expressing criticism, whether it be constructive or not. What's probably set most people off though is attempting to explain what it is to them. That generally doesn't work out well for anyone.

At this point, it probably would be good if someone closed the thread before it gets completely out of control.

  11. Instead of saving and importing your map open two copies of Radiant, one with the larger map and the other with your space map. Draw a brush over your entire space map, select inside, then Edit > Copy or Ctrl + C. Next, go to the other instance of Radiant that you have open with your larger map and Edit > Paste or Ctrl + V. It will paste to the same location in Radiant where it was created, so before you deselect everything zoom out and drag the entire map to where you want it positioned.
