Best Possible Experience ?

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I used to play Jedi Outcast and Academy waaaaay back in the early 2000s, and now I found my Academy CD laying around while moving. Before installing it, I remembered the endless pages of mods in JKFiles, and I wondered if there were any new cool mods. So now I found this website and that the source code for the game was actually released!

So, I need your help! I want to play the SP story once again, but since I found out all this stuff, I want to play it the best possible way. I need your tips on the best mods available to enhance the campaign, be it visually, technically or in whatever way.

I already downloaded QFXPro and Texture Overhaul 0.3. Is there any other stuff I need?

I just skimmed over the Open JK forum and I'm not sure I get it all... how do I install all those engine fixes and all?

Thanks for helping a newbie out :)

There aren't a whole lot of SP improvement mods right now. It's just not as attractive as the multiplayer part right now, since people are working on their own MP projects which they have been working on. But! I honestly think that someone will come along and improve on it substantially at some point.

For OpenJK: http://builds.openjk.org has what you need.

The Ultimate Weapons Mod is pretty good. I have it for Jedi Outcast and it made the game and what I was making way more fun because the blaster sounds like in the movies. Its really well done and makes a nice improvement over the stock look and sounds/effects of the weapons. Its available for both games.

Do you happen to have a link for the academy version of that mod? I cant find it here, and JKFiles its broken for me!

Besides that, thanks all! The new effects, widescreen fixes, HUD, textures and renderer make the game look amazing despite it's age.

here is a link for it and it worked for me just a few minutes ago.

It's a regional thing, filefront does not allow downloads from half the world. Anyway, I managed to get it through a proxy. Now the game look amazing!

Here are some pictures with everything applied. The thread may now be closed. Thanks all again.

That video doesn't entice me at all. :P Missing textures and saber effects. Not a fan of those saber sounds. Looks too dark and unsaturated to me.

Effects and sounds will be replaced :)
