Merek Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I keep getting an "error 509 The account's public links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled" whenever i attempt to download a file from www.jkhub.org. How do I avoid this and is this an issue?
Circa Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I posted a status, but I guess I'll have to explain further. Everyone is getting that error because we reached our daily limit for downloads. The limit is 200 GB. We're still working to figure out what caused it exactly, but for now, we just have to wait until the 24 hour period is up. Sorry about that.
Merek Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 No need to apologize. You do realize you are apologizing for something you did not cause. BTW, I didn't know dropbox has a 200 GB download limit? No offense that is just plain retarded
Circa Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Meh. Maybe, but most file hosting services have something similar. It's actually not a big deal because it's extremely rare to reach that amount. We suspect foul play of some sort.
Morabis Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Is there a way you can get a list of downloaded files for a day?
Morabis Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Because then may you could figure out why the limit is reached.
Solution Onysfx Posted November 24, 2013 Solution Posted November 24, 2013 There is a reason we're having this issue. And he's a very probable theory: Link, Bek, Merek and 1 other like this
Mando Dude Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Why am I getting error 509 from dropbox 2 days straight everytime I try to download?
Futuza Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Because we're still in the same month. Does this mean captchas on file downloads?
ent Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Guys, add torrents as alternative way to download for such situations. I am sure here are people who are always online and can always share.I had that problem yesterday too.
Circa Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 That would be silly for the following reasons: 1. We'd have to go through every single file's page and add a second link. 2. Torrent sites are blocked on many networks (colleges, businesses, etc), including mine. 3. Dropbox works the best. We exceeded our traffic limit because of image links we were using for the site. So every time someone visited the site, it would load that image from our Dropbox account, which racked up the bandwidth. We've since removed all images and files that aren't JKHub mods. It should not happen again.
Sentra Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 But 509 is not cool too. Even it is okay for now, after some time the same thing can happen again. AFAIK networks block only torrent sites like PirateBay or other torrent scrapyards. In this situation the usage of torrent system is okay, because it shares legal content.
Circa Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 My college network blocks any site flagged as a torrent site, and also blocks torrent programs from getting a connection, like uTorrent or BitTorrent. It's not really feasible to do such a thing right now anyway, even if we were considering it. But we're not. Yet.
ent Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Circa, at first, you don't need to use it if you don't want. At second, I told it could be alternative way, so there could be 2nd download button or something like that. You don't lose anything.
