About This File

Update:

Thank you for your feedback! Please view the change log for a list of updates. As always if you encounter any issues, do let me know!

About the mod:

Please unzip the NewBeginning.zip folder and extract the contents to your Gamedata folder. Once installed, you may use the included "newbeginning.bat" file to load the mod for you. These instructions should apply to a disc and Steam installation (as I've used both!)

This is a single player mod set one year after the original game (Light Side ending.) You will play as a new character over three levels (discounting cinematic maps) and two bonus levels. Two take place in the Jedi Academy and one at one of the many training grounds. I strongly encourage you to explore the first level as there're a fair few secrets and Easter Eggs to be found! It was designed with the original Jedi Outcast level in mind, which means you could end it very, very quickly if you wanted to bypass the fun of exploration and move onto the trial level.

The trial is the same one that was originally released here on JKHub with minor edits. I wanted to place emphasis on the Yavin Temple in order to receive feedback while I work on a brand new trial level and the first mission beyond the Jedi Academy.
If you encounter any bugs- Oh, God. Please, please don't tell me you've encountered any bugs. ;_; My head might implode!

Special thanks to Circa for play testing at various stages of development! Additional thanks to everyone over in this thread for providing so much help (still).

Problems with the .bat?

A Windows 8 tester did seem to be having a problem loading the mod with the .bat provided. They overcame this by creating a shortcut to their jasp.exe. (Right-click, copy, paste shortcut)

Open the shortcut's "properties" and then move to the "shortcut" tab. Then, add the following (after a space) onto the "Target:" field: "+set sv_pure 0 +set fs_game newbeginning"

Example:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy\GameData\jasp.exe" +set sv_pure 0 +set fs_game newbeginning"

I hope this helps!

Hello!

I downloaded your mod and installed it properly, but it dont want to start. Am I doing something wrong or I am just unlucky with your mod?

Are you getting an error message? Are you playing through Steam or using a disc copy? :)

This update is awesome, great work MagSul.

Sorry my subpar voice acting didn't make the cut :'''(

I really liked all the random dialogue. One little thing (not really a bug per se but whatever) was that Kel'Dor in his room you talk to that has a modified voice. After he's done talking you can just go press Use on him and he has a regular voice lol.

Not sure if I'm the only one who spent so much time exploring that I forgot where I was told to meet Jaden. Maybe the objective text could be modified to specify? Maybe my memory just sucks...

Another thing I loved was the holocrons rewarding you with more advanced Force powers. Maybe you should hide a Push 2 one inside the block of Rosh's class to test if people actually join in :P

All in all this really speaks to the hard work you've put in to this over the past year(?) now. I loved the part where the player seems really worried that she kept Jaden and Kyle waiting.

I loved the organic feeling of the temple and it's population. This is how JKA SHOULD HAVE BEEN.

whenever I save using this mod the game crashes. The command console then says "String dest buffer too small to hold string "You do not yet have all of the

 necessary components to construct a lightsaber." 80 > 64"

Whenever I try to duel Ral Theron, or Ella in "Jedi Academy: Enhanced" the game crashes. Any idea why? It's a shame this doesn't work properly in JAEnhanced, I've been trying to integrate the "Yavin Temple" level into the main campaign.

For me, my issue is that I always start out as the default Twilek. I can't figure out how to change my race or anything, and I've even installed other mods to help, yet nothing works.

I decided to make the protagonist of the mod a woman because canonically, Jaden was male. That allowed me to re-cycle and splice the female dialogue from the game without it seeming out of place besides the male's, which I was also editing and re-using. That left me with three choices for species and I went with twi'lek because I thought it would go well with multi-purposing the MP unknown map screen - and I felt there weren't enough aliens in the original game (Alora being the only major one if you take Jaden as a human male.)

The skin is a modified version of the base twi'lek, as you pointed out. If you were to open the NB_Assets.pk3, you'd find the relevant files in models/players/padawan. So if you make something to replace those assets, you could overwrite the twi'lek skin with whatever you prefer, though the voice should still be the female one because the mod was designed that way intentionally.

I hope that clears things up. Also, thank you for taking the time to check out this project. ^_^

You know that girl in high school who shamelessly flirts and shows off her assets but never lets you score? She is this mod. It is by far the best JKA mod created in adapting the open world feel of Star Wars and natural leveling. But just when you're hooked  it leaves you craving more by ending just as soon as it begins. Dang MagSul you did my emotions dirty.

This is the best Jedi Academy mod, I love going back to the Yavin 4 academy. I hope you're continuing to work on it.
