  1. I'm wondering if someone can help me find some music. The song is from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I'm looking for this bit at the end of the nuke scene. I want to use it in my mod but I can't find it in the soundtrack.
  2. It's not just about feeling connected to the characters, it's about showing people that the world doesn't revolve solely around white people. But fair enough. You have your own anecdotal evidence for believing what you believe, and I have mine.
  3. It's funny how everyone suddenly starts throwing around that "Mary-Sue" term after Max Landis used it in his Youtube review for Force Awakens... In all seriousness though, I understand finding it annoying that Disney is trying to push the whole equality thing. But I mean equality and equal representation in film is definitely a good thing. And they're not being too in-your-face or obtuse about it, in my opinion anyway. Not like a recent 2016 remake, which will remain nameless. And Star Wars is... well, it's Star Wars. It's like the biggest franchise in all of creation. Don't little girls, or black kids, or whoever deserve a chance to see someone like themselves as the star, and not just the love interest or charming side character? Isn't six movies about angsty young white guys enough, for whatever reason, political or not? As long as they're not retroactively turning Han Solo asian or something, is it really that big of a deal? You can argue they're politicizing Star Wars, which annoys you because it's against your politics or because you think it shouldn't be politicized. But the thing is, your preferring the leads of these movies not being women is also a political statement, like it or not. You're probably not annoyed by the concept of pandering, so much as you're annoyed that you're not the one being pandered to in (I assume) one of your favorite franchises. Which is fine! In Hollywood's attempts to try and satisfy the whims of people demanding diversity, white guys are going to get lost in the shuffle. And if little girls and little black kids or whoever deserve to have heroes like themselves in their favorite movies, then so do white guys. But blaming the actresses seems like a weird route to take. EDIT: But to get back on topic, Rogue One looks alright. I liked the first trailer more than any of the other ones so far. That weird siren thing was reminiscent of the trailer for the original Alien movie. In fact that first Rogue One trailer was almost edited like a horror movie trailer. Which is appropriate. The government is about to build a super weapon that can blast whole planets worth of people out of space. If that ain't horrifying then what is? But some of the dialogue in the latest trailer is definitely kind of cheesy. And I'm worried about someone taking up the mantle that John Williams is stepping down from. Plus that line from the droid about "there is a 96% chance of failure" or whatever it said makes me think they might still be leaning too hard on the whole nostalgia/references angle, like Force Awakens was. All the fan-service stuff in that movie is definitely the worst part of it in my eyes.
  4. You can set the player's force powers with an Icarus script. Target your info_player_start at a target_scriptrunner and use the affect and set commands in BehavEd to set the user's force powers. I think by default the user's force powers are all at level 0, unless you have some saves from a previous playthrough, then your force powers/playermodel/sabers will default to whatever you had in those saves. What is this for? Are you making a SP mod?
  5. Yeah, I put the block NPC shader up, built a little fence around the duel area because they were going all over the place. And I added SET_LEADER because the unresponsive jedi kept following me around. It seemed to fix the problem, but I'll remove it when I add the set team commands.
  6. Thank you! Spawnflags 4 didn't work but the misc_model_static did.
  7. While I was messing around in BehavEd I found a boolean SET command called SET_INTERFACE that turns off the HUD if you set it to false, but it still shows the stupid crosshairs. So close.
  8. Been messing around with scripting stuff mostly today, but I did work on a series of decal shaders I'm using to simulate the effect of a spotlight shining on a wall. Since spotlights in JA don't produce the look I'm after. EDIT: Oh yeah, and I think I've settled on a name for my mod, Jedi Outcast: Uprising. I'm also thinking I might need help with making a splash screen and possibly customizing some of the game menus. I'm not too great at that stuff.
  9. This bug is killing me and I don't know how to fix it. Some of the default models I use in my map aren't displaying their textures or shaders properly. Sometimes it just shows flat black instead of the texture, sometimes there's just nothing. There's supposed to be a plant in that pot in the last screenshot. I didn't remove models.shader from the shaderlist or anything. And some Googling shows some other people have had this problem, but I haven't seen any solutions offered other than to try using a light_junior, which didn't work for me. And it's not just md3s, the console in the first screenshot is an ase.
  10. I'm recreating the Yavin academy level from Jedi Outcast for my SP mod, and I want to have some NPCs fighting each other in the saber training area. I placed my two NPCs (which have the NPC_targetnames jedi1 and trainer1) and gave them the spawnscripts: Jedi1 does what I want. He/she continuously attacks trainer1. But trainer1 just stands there doing nothing. I'm trying to do something similar in another room with a jedi deflecting blasts from a seeker drone which continuously floats around and fires at him, but the same thing happens with those two NPCs. The seeker drone attacks the jedi and the jedi stands there doing nothing. What am I doing wrong?
  11. Yeah I normally prefer instrumental when it comes to synth or electronic type stuff, but I'll be damned if those songs aren't catchy as hell. For some reason Jason reminds me of Twin Peaks. Maybe it's because I just started watching it on Netflix, and Jason reminds me of James? And the lyrics talk about a popular kid who's good with the ladies and is stuck in a small town. One of the lines even mentions homecoming queens. Anyway, while I'm on an 80s synth kick, I'd regret it if I didn't post a link to the Turbo Kid soundtrack, by Le Matos.
  12. I recently discovered The Midnight thanks to the Youtube channel, NewRetroWave. Their album Endless Summer is so damn good. Been listening to it non-stop for weeks now. It's 80s inspired synth with lots of sexy sax solos. Jason is my favorite track.
  13. Added this security center. And started working on the player skin. A black and gray Reborn, may add some color in small doses later. You'll get to choose a new saber in the beginning as well, as you're still using your red Reborn lightsaber when you first start the game.
  14. That would require me to make the hangar door a little taller, which would require me to make the hangar ceiling a little higher, which is just too much work to be worth it honestly. I'll probably just take the shuttle out completely instead.
  15. That sounds like a good idea. I could probably make a demo of the first level, which isn't that long. The whole mod in general will only be about 3 or 4 levels, so not insanely long, but still a lot of work.
  16. Got some more mapping done today. This is still part of the Academy, the first level. It's part of one of the possible solutions to the first puzzle. This particular solution will only be accessible if you have certain force powers. There's a second solution that requires yet another set of force powers, and a third that just requires a lightsaber or any weapon. As you can see in the last shot, there will be hazards in some areas that you can only pass if you have either force protect or force speed (or heal I suppose). Trying to pass them without using one of those powers will result in certain death. Out of curiosity, would you guys prefer I wait until the entire mod is complete before releasing, or would you all be interested in some kind of alpha/beta releases? Like an alpha consisting of the complete first level? This mod is going to take quite a while to complete, and I'm worried I'll start to feel overwhelmed by it and stop working on it eventually. If I commit to some kind of alpha release then it might encourage me to stick with it.
  17. Looks good enough to me: @@Artemis, you mind if I use this in my SP mod? I'll be sure to give you credit. And for what it's worth I'd also love to see some kind of comprehensive frankensteining tutorial. My mod is going to need lots of frankensteined NPCs.
  18. He's as powerful as they want him to be. They probably won't overpower him to that degree, because it would stray too far from the original trilogy, but they're writing the thing and they'll do whatever they want with him.
  19. You know, I was writing a whole reply about how I was sure that would never happen. About how the whole thesis of Force Awakens was "the Star Wars you used to know and love is back!", meaning they weren't going to do anything like that because no one in the original trilogy would have had the power to do that. But then I started thinking about the X-Wing scene on Dagobah, and if they used a scene of Luke pulling a damn Star Destroyer out of the sky to demonstrate to Rey that size doesn't matter/the power of the force is limitless, like Yoda did with Luke, now I can kind of see it. It would be a nice little nod to Force Unleashed fans that wouldn't make people who aren't familiar with those games go "huh? What does that mean?" like they would if, for instance, Starkiller made a cameo or something. Although I don't think the people involved really care about giving nods to Force Unleashed fans. Problem is, once you establish that one of the good guys can pull a ship the size of Texas out of the sky with his mind, well that kind of neutralizes a lot of the tension. "Oh no! Kylo Ren is back! How will we defea- oh. Luke just launched him into outer space. Good one Luke." Unless they kill Luke in this one and not the third one, so he's not around to have their backs anymore. Which is a thing that's going to happen eventually. The mentor always has to die. EDIT: Should I have spoilered any of that? Do we spoiler tag pure fan speculation?
  20. Been trying to Frankenstein a chiss head onto a Shadowtrooper body, following the instructions on the first page of this thread, but I'm having some problems in Blender. I imported the Shadowtrooper model and moved the head parts to a different layer, then I imported the Chiss model to yet another layer, then moved the Chiss head parts to the Shadowtrooper body layer. But it looks like my hierarchy is all jacked up. Plus the collar area of the two models doesn't seem to line up correctly, you can see some white space and overlapping. Can I fix that by simply lining up the verts of the Chiss neck and Shadowtrooper collar?
  21. Hmm, after looking at the flechette effects myself it looks like I might have been wrong about being able to disable ricocheting in the efx files. Is your mod meant for SP or MP, or both? If it's MP you could try a simple code mod, I don't think it would be too hard. But don't quote me on that.
  22. Nothing screams "I don't care what you think of me!" like reviving a thread that hasn't had a new post in over a month to leave a long, passive aggressive rant.
  23. You should check out the default weapon effects. Load up EffectsEd (or download the SDK if you don't already have it), and check out some of the stuff in the base/effects/flechette (or demp2, or disruptor) folder. I believe ricocheting shells can be turned off. Same with removing the electricity effect of the demp2. I'm not sure about the disruptor though.
  24. It's mainly the control scheme I hate, I'm used to Maya. Right clicking to select objects drives me nuts.
  25. Attempted to Frankenstein it myself. Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V didn't copy paste the head properly like the video said. Tried Googling how to copy paste in Blender and many sources said to duplicate with Shift + D, but when I tried to delete the original model it deleted my duplicated head as well. Getting frustrated, I'll give it another try tomorrow. Man I hate Blender.
