  1. The Spring Equinox is this month, and April Fools and Easter are about a week after that, so why not a have a contest?

Secret Santa is good and all, but more than two months have passed already!

Besides, there haven't been Equinox- or Easter-themed contests to begin with (not sure if there were any April Fools' contests either in fact).

    What say you's?

  2. But this isn't a book, it's a visual medium. It's uninteresting to see a random background character get shot four times while he repeats lines from ROTS.

Yeah, now that I gave it more thought, I guess you're right.

I dont know, i believed that the battle would be more efficient with AT-STs

Well, you're the director, of course.

I just think that having AT-ST's, or other vehicles for that matter, would be a liability considering the architecture of Tipoca City (or wherever those cloning labs were). Still, I could be mistaking, I don't know how much weight the bridges can actually hold.

In any case, here's a thing to criticize ( :P): the AT-ST's would have been very useful against the LAAT's, but in the video they're hardly doing anything.

  3. I liked it a lot, only criticism I have is that some action scenes tend to drag too much. I would lower the HP of every NPC to just one, so we won't see characters getting shot multiple times and still survive. I'd also consider modifying some sounds so they don't spam scenes from the film whenever they get hit.

Well, in out-of-movie media (books, for example) blasters take more than one hit to actually kill someone.

It's only fair you wouldn't immediately die of a shot to the leg. -_-

    This reminds me of:

  4. Based on 2005 Battlefront II story mode

    Changing of the Guard

    Enjoy!

Something I never understood about this particular mission is why they needed Boba Fett. Yeah, sure, gameplay wise it was good, but the 501st consisted entirely (or almost entirely) of clone-troopers that were bred on Kamino to begin with. Why they needed Boba is unclear since they already most likely knew the layout of all the facilities is really unclear.

Edit: Pretty nice job overall. Of course, some things were lacking (animations, for example), but that's the engine's fault. Loved the extra details.

    Why the AT-ST's though?

  5. Hello there! I just wanted to ask one question Jeff. Could you please by any chance link the pk3 of your Kotor 2 jedi robes from gallery? If by some miracle you also have the male robes.... THAT WOULD BE SPLENID :D! Your models are awesome, been a long time fan <3

Have you tried the Kotor pack on the first page?

  6. I don't think they were referred to as elders by any character or mission briefings/objectives, only on their NPC files. Weren't they just some random prisoners? Btw their faces, it's a bit of a stretch for me to take only 2 dudes as being prisoners,elders,jedi,merchants... when i was a kid playing JO and saw the prisoners in Artus and then saw them as jedi in Yavin i actually thought they were the same guys brought in for training!

About the coruscant mission, I wouldn't really call it nar shaddaa (ns is more grimy looking) but I wouldn't call it coruscant too. I guess corellia could be acceptable? Dunno much about it's aesthetic besides it being another metropolis-like planet

I think the 'datapad' referred to them as such, or whatnot.

Agreed, it was kinda funny to see the same guys in all places :D

Corellia, as far as I remember had at least one big city, but also had natural areas. Then again, it might have been in the past.

  7. Hmm i also feel so-so about the Nar Kreeta mission. Backtracking really came out bad on this level and it's design isn't all that appealing to me.

Yeah, the design was kinda strange, considering the map was supposed to be a rancor-fights arena (at least, based on the posters there, and the MP siege map). And what's with those dudes you had to rescue? Why were they called 'elders'? They didn't look very old, so I take it, 'elder' is a title? But then, what were they 'elders' of? And yes, it was easy to get lost in the map, but still, it was kinda fun, if your idea of fun is getting chased by a rancor so as to give those 'elder' dudes time to escape.

Coruscant (...) REALLY wasn't done any justice in this game, at all.

The whole architecture of the map is wrong. The map that's used in the game for that mission, is actually much more closely resembles somewhere like "Nar Shaddaa".

Agreed. Though I'd say it's closer to Corellia's Coronet :D

  8. You said seeing the Jedi training was boring, and I was disagreeing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It's boring now, sure. Compared to modern games it's super boring.

I meant that watching it for longer than a few minutes, or seeing them do the same things in every other room gets boring, considering how they mostly do the same thing over and over again, but otherwise it's fairly immersive since training is all about repetition, and since you get to see npcs actually do stuff instead of just standing around mindlessly.

    Anyway, moving on.

Come on, guys, who else loves which maps?

  9. Favourite Outcast Level(s): All of the Yavin levels. Seeing the Jedi all training early on, and then going through the trials for the lightsaber was so much fun.

Favourite Academy Level(s): I love Blenjeel. Massive sand worms, and having to hide out on rocks and the shipwreck was so awesome. I can picture a Fremen like people on the planet learning to ride them around

Least Favourite Academy Level(s): Off the top of my head, I don't like the Droid Recovery mission on Tatooine, nor the bomb defusal mission on Bakura.

Well yeah, the the Yavin academy level where you got to see other Jedi training was cool, but you know, still kinda boring since they only ever did a handful of things.

Also, I do agree that Blenjeel is pretty neat, if you're a fan of Dune, and from an immersive point of view, the level is actually pretty sweet, albeit freaky. Gameplay-wise though, it was annoying as fuck. Funny thing too, back in the days i was trying to make a SW fan-comic set during the Clone Wars, and I used the map as a crash-site for a Republic battleship. Too bad I never got through with the idea.

  10. In JO: Kinda difficult, most of the levels had immersion and atmosphere, so I liked them greatly, but if I was to choose, I'd choose Kejim_2 and the Doomgiver levels - the latter was all interesting, if a bit tedious; also the levels with the Shadowtrooper labs (don't remember what they were called). It'd be easier to name particular areas in levels.

    • For my least favourite ones, I'll go with anything Nar Shadaa and Academy related (the first was annoying and the second was just disappointing), .

In JKA: Dosuun (Rax Jorris - really liked that you had to go through the level without a lightsaber), Kril'dor (X-Wing and the Tibana gas station), Yavin_1 (the very first level, I only wish it was longer), I suppose, Yalara (Noghri), Byss (imperial dreadnought), Chandrila (t2_rift), Tanaab (mutant rancor), Bakura (volcano power plant), korriban_3, Tattooine (t1_surprise), vjun_3 (especially the latter part of the level), dark side Korriban (I had fun). Hoth and Korriban felt like RavenSoft didn't do them justice though. A shame, them's are some of my favourite planets in the SW universe.

    • Of the unfavourites: Blenjeel (giant worms), Zonju V (t2_trip), Yavin (just boring), korriban_1, vjun_1 and vjun_2 (though both had their moments), Taspir (both, annoying, especially the second part). In the past, the list would have been different.
  11. some of Davik's lines were edited to make sense with the scenario but it's not all that noticable if you were to replay davik's estate from kotor. as for editing them a little more: i don't see anything else that i could edit to be completely honest

as for the nikto dialogue, they're probably the same voice actor but different lines

Didn't someone already do something like that where the HK's have those clanks for footsteps? also i don't think anyone has ported the mark 1 assault droid yet into jedi academy

I might swap out a few of them with bith, rodians and grans. thank god for the weequay NPC which can allow me to add all of them in if i wanted to, lol

I'm considering swapping out the nikto (who replace the human mercs) with the derrick character (who resembles the mercenaries from kotor 2)

i'm also surprised the guy who made the kotor 2 hud didn't makes a kotor 1 version yet. i'd be shocked if he could get the features to work to resemble the kotor HUD's

Well, in some areas it's clearly obvious Davik's lines were edited/ spliced - they cut too fast or too abruptly. Maybe add a small pause between them, or something?

I'm not sure if someone already made the clanking HK walk sounds for JKA, but I'm pretty sure I've heard them in one of the KOTORs.

Yeah, nobody ported the Mark I, and I guess that would require a special skeleton, and animations too. A pity.

If I remember correctly the merc/ bounty hunter/ thug .npc files all have several entries for different kinds of characters (Rodian with E-11 and Rodian with Disruptor; Merc thug and Merc officer; Gran boxer and Gran grenadier; etc.) - plenty of space to go round.

    Derrick? What Derrick?

Is the K2 hud you used in the last video the same one that's been uploaded on here so long ago? If so, I doubt we'll get an update. :D

It's been 10 months since i've done anything with the audio assets I assembled for jedi academy. Recently, over the course of a few days, I went back to assemble something new since over the months I learned how to export voice line files from kotor 1 and 2. I downloaded a bunch of kotor models Jeff ported, took out their soundsets and modified them. I later applied them to the Crimelord Takedown mission by replacing Lannik Racto with Davik Kang, voice lines included with some of them spliced respectively.

I also changed out the music with ones from kotor (specifically the ones from Davik's estate), the only thing that's missing are the battle suspense tracks which i hope to get working, i have kotor 2's with no problem but not kotor 1, good thing i had help with the music. Thanks to Lwkill for optimizing the music for jedi academy.

Keep in mind: This is not official

Huh, I don't remember Davik's first line, at all, not even the parts that make it up.

It is only now that I realize that the supposed Sith Language of Atris' holocrons in TSL was actually a recycling of the Nikto language!

Perhaps it would be a better idea to replace the assassin droids not with the HK's but with the Sentinel Droids or the Mark 1 assault droids? These guys at least have shields, because from what I've seen in the video, the HK's felt like pushovers, whereas the original assassin droids were made a challenge because of their shields. Another thing I'd fix, if you'd leave the HK's is to give them clanky walking sounds, like in KOTOR.

It would also be great to have a fully working KOTOR hud, because so far, the only working ones are the shield, heath and Force meters. It'd be cool to have the player icon in the appropriate place, and maybe show the saber styles, and selected weapon/ Force power... maybe remove the numeric value of heath/ Force meters. I realized that it's all in the future, but please don't forget about it, okay? ;)

Also, some of Davik's lines need more editing, though they already sound impressive.

I wonder: Are all bounty-hunters/ thugs/ mercenaries going to be Nikto and Duros? In both KOTORS there were Weequays, Rodians, Twi'leks, Grans and even a few Bith also.

  13. The first two films of the current trilogy have so far been interesting yet full of questionable moments that split the fanbase and made others completely abandon the franchise. Whatever chances The Force Awakens had for starting something new and exciting was straight out trashed by Writer & Director, Rian Johnson. As mentioned so many times before, The Last Jedi wasn't necessarily a bad film - many of the actors performed great and the visual effects were pleasing to watch, but the story felt empty and weird. Now that J.J. Abrams has ironically finished what he started - I'm certainly waiting for that first teaser trailer to be revealed on StarWars Celebration Day, (April 11-15th) to see if he has indeed, managed to do the impossible - which is of course: bringing the fans back together and rescuing the franchise. The rumors circling around the movie are certainly suggesting that this will be worth watching but that may be just another case of clever marketing so honestly I don't feel like paying for the upcoming episode - not yet. The most interesting rumor for me has to be about the supposed CGI work to create a scene that will re-unite the three heroes from the original trilogy, that is of course Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa & Han Solo.

Whatever the case - this April will be most imporant for the StarWars fanbase.

Are you a journalist? Because I get strangely journalistic vibes from your post.

  14. It seems they finished filming, so the Episode is in late production. I guess even at this point we might say, that Star Wars as we know it ends now. I mean, Episode IX is the last SW film, which would keep most of the original Star Wars traditions under its wing:

-The starting crawl with a yellow font

-A space scene being ALWAYS the first one to appear in a film

-Someone with a lightsaber would always pop up and be in the centre of the plot

-Skywalkers playing at least a major background role

    -R2-D2 and C-3PO duo (not a cameo)

-No actors replacing major parts in the plot

    -John Williams score

Meanwhile I read some leaks from Episode IX, but most can be called fake. Most of the rumours are about:

    (Careful, SPOILERS ahead)

-Knights of Ren returning to the Galaxy and perhaps serving Kylo Ren or confronting him

-Rey training as a major Jedi and starting a new generation of keepers of the peace

-General Hux betrayal of the First Order

    -Leia appearing briefly

    -Luke as a Force ghost

    -Lando returns (confirmed)

-Return to a familiar place from Star Wars

-Possible return of Palpatine (with a young actor invited to play the "clone")

    -Snoke not dead

    -Rey's parents weren't "nobody"

-Rey might have a child or/and is connected to a great Force User

-Anakin Skywalker appearing as a Force Ghost

-Final scene making a stone for another trilogy, set somewhere 100-300 years later (rumour was that R.Johnson was to film the three films about historians of the future, retelling the original Episodes IV-VI in their own manner – cheesy, if you ask me)

Well, I could do without those supposedly trademark things that the OT introduced, especially without the starting crawl - so darn annoying - and the R2+3PO duo (the latter is already redundant with BB-8 anyway).

What does 'no actors replacing major part in the plot' mean?

As to what you hid under the spoilers, you yourself mentioned that most of them can be called fake, so it's not a big deal. Then again, half of them are either already to be expected from a logic point of view, or are just something fans want to see because they're nostalgic for the old EU or because they wanted the ST to be deeper.

  15.

There was LucasFiles, FileFront, JK2Files (technically part of the FileFront network but different), modDB, and pcgamemods.com (which was shut down around 2005ish). JKHub was created in 2011 and went live in 2012.

Ah, pcgamemods must have been that "one more site" that I was thinking about :D

There was a different JKHub (.net) for Dark Forces that you may have been on.

I know of that one, I think it's still on, but I haven't been using it since I hardly ever played Dark Forces.
